Lamarckian evolution is something you'd see in sapient machines. They'd desire a change, and start designing that change into their basic designs.

But that does not involve genetics and is not applicable to life. It's interesting, but life goes about in a much cruder way. It's more of, whatever manages to breed passes on it's traits. And as the environment is dynamic lifeforms either adapt to it or die over the generations.

Heh, nah, I'm just kidding. Just that quote made me think that. Actually I'm happy to see people who don't consider themselves very cerebral still watch these things. That's hopeful.
