infra red doesn't light up bright white! How about showing a real demonstration of the system? You didn't once show the control unit in the vehicle or the emitter, or even the receiver on the traffic lights.
@urbex2007 the white strobe indicated that the opticom is on and transmitting, because on all of our fire engines you can see the white strobe while looking at the truck when its operating in emergency mode
there have been incidents where two fire trucks came to the same intersection at the same time and they both asumed that cause they had thier opticom on they were gatting green lights and they crashed into each other
@MheHauf That's why when you take EVOC (Emergency Vehicle Operator's Course) they tell you to never assume you have control of the intersection... you're trained to still yield at the intersection for red light runners or other approaching emergency vehicles
@dalejr82010 - Yes I am very aware of that I am a firefighter and yes I have taken EVOC the incident I am referring to it was two firehouses competing to get to the call first, but I am well aware of the proper procedure when responding I was simply stating that the system isn't fool proof and Due Regard and caution is still very necessary
now say two emergency vehicles pull up to the same intersection at the same time but they are both cross traffic to each other...do both lights turn green? and say its a bus and a emergency vehicle get in the same situation..does the EMV get the right away or does the bus? or do both lights turn green?
no the first opticom to triger it get it. in my city i seen two fire truck coming and the one got it first but the other fire truck didn't not but they knew somone actived it becuase the little white light flashes
also there are different class class 1 overrides 2 and 3
@Shsbaseball1200 , As mps2001 said, only the first activated light turns green, & all others stay red. The second unit, coming the other direction, will not get the white light, which tells them they must treat it as a normal red light. Our city only allows fire dept vehicles, not busses, to have opticom strobes, to activate the system. What an amazing difference in safety & response times it has made.
The Opticom system on public transit buses is an incentive to ride the bus... you don't have to wait at red lights in a bus vs. driving and having to stop at every red light. The opticom would turn the light green for the bus and help it stay on schedule and get riders to their stops faster
really. thats so stupid. i hate buses. no wonder there is so much traffic. bus drivers are so annoying. i think ive gotten cut off by them at least ten times.
Just as you will notice, if such is programmed in your opticomm equipped area, that there is a 3 to 5 second hold on the "emergency" green before the signal recycles back into its "normal" programmed pattern. (when signal is preempted normally by a single emmitter.)
or as we do one person shuts off the lights and lets the other unit catch the light (depends on who has more important call say a heart attack versus a broken leg the heart attack gets the light)
In Denver, CO, the traffic enginerrs have programmed the traffic system to go to all-way red warning flasher if multiple opticomm equipped vehicles arrive from different direction to the same intersection at the same time. The traffic signal will then reset once the vehicles are clear and a certain amount of time (about 10 seconds) has passed.
We've got these where I live, and they're awesome. A few months ago, EMS was going on a call down a major blvd and I was about 300 feet behind them. I took advantage of that and got green lights at every intersection for the next two miles, until I had to turn onto a different street. It was fun while it lasted! Oh, and I didn't have to speed either.
Wondering if Hans Zimmer knows you're using his music... lol

its kind of hard to say it works with the control unit on the traffic lights.

What if 2 emergency vehicles equiped with that system come to the same intersection, but not the same street?

For emergency vehicles there's First Come - First Serve basis.

@dmitry103 actually, if more then one emergency vehicle tone is recognized from more then one direction, all lights turn red.
