i went to somwat similar to this area in newport, it was at the end of the street, the opposite side of the port, and omg, i got freaking owned in the waves...i drowned a couple times in these waves...

From Deep water to shallow water very quickly and Rock wall next to it

The swell comes in from the south and refacts of the jetty which causes a large volume of water to propell back out to sea. This backward moving water hits the next swell coming in and explodes upwards doubling the height of the wave. Sometimes dudes ride the backward or sideways wave right into the barrel of the next incoming wave. Thanks for the comment.

I remember bodysurfing 1/2 of the day at Huntington, then riding my bike to Newport to work on boats for the rest of the workday. I would get off of work and ride down to the wedge, especially on a good storm day and watch the big boys (and occasional rockin'' girl) and watch them in action. I noticed that the average body surfer on a big day was no younger than forty. It was the seasoned surfers that would have the guts.
