@FeeTurbule i think its probably because its publicised a lot more these days and more people are concerned about the horse's wellbeing. im not a fan of racing, but theres not much that be done, its just one of those things
The only reason everybody loved Barbaro is because his name was plastered all over CNN News. I can almost guarantee half of you morons have never even watched a feature race; let alone wager on one. If there wasn't a single headline in regards to Barbaro's passing, none of you here today would give a rats ass.
@BeetleSales Whoa there! Let's not start accusing people that you don't know anything about! And hey, you're right about one thing: I haven't watched a full Barbaro-featured race, but that doesn't mean I heard about him on the news and care about his death because everyone else does. I'm a Hunter-Jumper, and a retired Champion left my barn Saturday. I miss him so much, I was the one who took care of him while they found him a new home. Even before so, I rode him. I get the tradegy of Barbaro.
I cried... It was so sad when he died. A horse such as this should not have had this happen. So great, so powerful. It's a shame what happened. May Barbaro rest in peace. ='(.
Why was this animal slaughtered? Could his semen not be very valuable? I understand of course that live cover was impossible. Potential clients were probably a bit afraid that their foal might inherit Barbaro's weak bones. But to waste this animals genetics makes no business sense at all. Idiots.
@deutschschoen "This animal" is Barbaro, and he wasn't slaughtered. He was euthanized. Yes, it probably was valuable (whether he had weak bones or not. The fact he was injured doesn't necessarily mean he had weak bones), but his owners were more concerned with him and his health than selling off his semen. I'm assuming that's why they euthanized him rather than keeping him alive and in pain so they could extract it or w/e. It's not all about business, you dolt. Grow a heart.
@Arythielle your right I saw an interview with his owners, they pushed his recovery as far as they could but after he developed lamantitis they said he became more and more listless and in pain. His good attitude before was what kept them going and when it became obvious that he was miserable, they decided to end his suffering. As sad as it is, I agree with thier decision.
@stablematelover45 No he got laminitis in his front legs after he had had it in his bak left leg and shattured bones in his right left leg. it could not be healed and he was sufering so they had to put him down.
Barbaro couldn't have been saved. The Jackson's did the right thing by putting him out of his pain. He had Laminitis in all but on hoof that was making it painful for him to walk.
that are suffering lots. barbaro could have been saved but it would have been a long time to tell if the physio n everything had worked. r.i.p boy look after my pony jessie for me please. she was killed earlier this year by her owner we sold her to. (animal cruelty) is all i will say brings back to much hurt n pain talking bout it.
how old was he wen he was put to sleep? he was fairly young wasnt he? it was a shame it ended so early for him he was a good horse. he could have been saved but the pain would have been to much for him. plus to learn to walk n everything again. my mum use to say wen we put my bootiful staffy to sleep you have to be cruel to be kind i never knew wat it meant til i found out the real reason y she let the vet put cruiser my staffy down n i no cruiser is a dog but it goes for anything dats sufferin
he had to have been 3 since they don't let 4 year olds run in the triple crown and if I remember correctly he broke his leg in one of the triple crown races which i think was the Preakness but i'm not sure
if the stallhands accidentally let him free and caught him again, they should've seen he wasn't walking right. and they should've said it to barbaro's owner/owners so he could be taken out of the race.
NOTE: it's not an attack on anyone just reasonable question i think
barbaro is a beautiful horse and it's sad he had to be put down, R.I.P barbaro
I know how he died. Stall hands loosened his gate, so he burst out, and wacked his leg on the way out, so he was reloaded and when he started the race, his leg was already injured, so that made it worse. He pulled up because it had already broken, but it was made worse by galloping to the first turn.
In his name FANS OF BARBARO are trying to save USA horses, ponies, donkeys going to slaughter in Mexico & Canada where they are stabbed in the spine and killed in horrific ways.

I remember watching the horse race live when Barbaro started limping. Then I remember seeing Eight Belles at the finish line then the camera finishes. That was the last glimpse of her. She had a good last fight. Horse racing just isn't what it used to be.
You did a really good job on this video. It just so heartbreaking that Barbaro and now Eight Belles left us. Maybe those two are racing right now. At least they died both doing what they loved. : (
i have lost 3 horses. 2 to broken legs 1 to colic. i hated to see him AND 8 bells go up. RIP to both of them! i love u barbaro!!!!! i also agree with taco9911
You know I am so tired of people talking about him and Eight Bells, but you can't help but cry when you see this video. I am just balling my head off because I know what is like to lose a horse and just...I don't know, but I am faving this.
we all just know that everyone misses him but i guess it was almost like it was supposed 2 happen he is in a better place we dont have to worry about him any more love ya barbaro
You guys are so wrong...All of you, I knew Micheal Matz, he cared about that horse very much, and I am not sure if any of you heard, Barbaro was worth over 20million dollars and his owners didn't put him down for that. He was an amazing horse, his owners and Micheal loved him. Money is just a sad misfortune, I wish money wasn't a big part of racing because when something happens ppl just asume that it was for the money...And your wrong.
i know what you're coming from. I agree with you 100%, i get yelled at at school because i'm in horse racing and when horses break down people start blaming me and my horse racing buddies
I don't believe that either. This month's Reader's Digest had a story by Prado (his jockey) and it never said a word about a leg problem. The owners were, by all accounts, horse lovers rather than 'horse people' and wanted to save his life because they loved him. His racing career was over, he might possibly have been able to stud later on. But everything points to the owners still having tried to save him even if he'd been a gelding.
OMG i LOVE barbaro I have his book poster stuffed toy and if i ever get a horse of my own id name him barbaro bane or spirt of barbaro I MISS YOU BARBARO *crys*
You know, I appreciate that the people who owned/trained/knew Barbaro loved him. But they could have done him a big favor by letting him actually grow up before asking him to work so hard. SO MANY young Thoroughbreds are destroyed by being raced at such a young age...their bodies can't handle the strain of being started as long yearlings and raced at 2-3 years old. They are just babies. And the racing industry and fans continue to promote it! *sigh* (shakes head)
