I hope ththat you look up the musician named in the title....Bob Wills! He took Texas fiddle music and mixed it with swing, jazz, blues and was one the founders of Western Swing. Listen to some of the guitar work in his songs, and you'll understand why he is in the country AND rock halls of fame!
This remake is one of the best I've heard, but make no mistake, it is not the original recording from 1975. Notice when Steagall sings the word "beer" he stops the note abruptly and doesn't draw it out like on the original. He still sings it magnificently, though, and the musicianship is right there.
Remakes perfomed by original artists are annoyingly too common in the classic country genre you have to really be careful when purchasing CDs or downloads.
As a kid, thanks to my Mom I learned to appreciate this style of country music. As an adult I listen to classic hard rock of the '70s, but I still have a warm place in my heart for this. I got started on Hank Williams (Senior), Buck Owens, Merle Haggard, Porter Wagoner and Sonny James. Somewhere along the way, country became little more than pop music sung by Southerners. Dinah Shore was a Southerner who sang pop, but you wouldn't call her country, would you? I rest my case.
Somewhere between the greed for money and sound judgment, the legends of country music were tossed aside for the outlandish sound they call country music today.

AGREED! Todays commercial driven, FM radio "country" consists nearly 100% of bad, cheesy, pop & rock that doesn't rock!(neutered rock!). Try some Dale Watson, Fred Eaglesmith, Redd Volkaert, Junior Brown, The Hollisters. Good country is indeed still alive people! Go see 'em live and in person, buy their CD's!
@moregearsnlevers the trashville bullshit on the radio is nuthin but cheesy pops music with pedal steele and some fiddle mixed in. its crap. i remember in my teens saying i didnt like country. but then i heard COUNTRY. real raw shit rebel style not shania twain crap. yes a and dale watson kills it! i used to deliver to him when i werked for fedex! he lives in north austin!

As Jennings says, "when you cross the Red River, Nashville don't mean a thing".

My mistake - Johnny Russell did "Rednecks, White Socks And Blue Ribbon Beer". I humbly beg forgiveness.

By the way, I thought old Red was into "Rednecks, White Socks and BLUE RIBBON Beer"?
