@elafonisi08 I'm in the band at the Minster. We are usually all there by 0855 latest, we let the clock chimes go off and Great Peter strikes 9, then we pull off into rounds, we finish by 0950 and Great Peter is tolled for twn minutes by hand.
The ringing of church bells is one of the FEW things I DO miss from England. You should be proud of it. It is very, very English. If you want to sleep in, go and find a hotel in another place - an ex Pat.
well...never mind - it wouldn't bother me; I'd love to be near bells on a sunday. Mind you , you look like crap so presumably you had a skinful the night before...LOL
hmmm that gives me a saying, of move near to a church or cathedral, expect bells. I am a bell ringer, ppl go an moan at me for ringing I tell them where to go.
Anyway these bells have a lovely sound to them but the heaviest ring of 12 in world is liverpool.
What a terrific sound, It must be wonderful to live in a part of the world where such a celebratory sound is commonplace. I'll gladly trade places with the whinner on camera.
One of my favorite memories was waking up to light streaming through my hotel window and listening to the peal of Canterbury Cathedral.
York Minster has very fine campanologists and I thoroughly enjoyed their rendition of Allelulia on Easter Monday.
ps. church bells aren't just for Sunday. They're rung to herald the hours, the liturgical services, for celebrations (both religious and secular) and to mourn the dead.
You are so self centred. Bells have been ringing from this Minster for more than 500 years, then you come along, book a hotel right next to it, then start whining when they ring out on a Sunday morning. Had you never come across the custom of church bells being rung on a sunday morning or are you just a little bit dim?

@elafonisi08 I am a ringer too, I rang at 1 church that rang from 9am apparantly there is another that rings at 8:30 am too. These are nice bells.
People who choose to live near a church should expect bells like university puts Exams next to kitchen expect noise from the kitchen.

I can only hope that once the bells finished, you tried to get back to sleep, only to be re-awoken to the sound of the pipe organ.
