Beautiful... but I can't help but get the feeling that Dr. Clausen would love more than anything to direct a mens' choir with his prominent placement of the men in so many of the songs he composes or chooses. All the same, he does an excellent job of melding the different voices into true music.
Moments like the "Shine" chord at 2:35 make me so happy to be a baritone. Singing the 5th in really epic grand chord moments like that is really the best thing.
@guitarman14339 Sopranos front left, altos front right, Basses back left and Tenors back Right. The basses are kept behind the Sopranos for intonation.
Guitarman, thats exactly how we stand in Williamson Voices at Westminster Choir college.Except we're a much small choir so we are only in two rows. This is a fantastic choir. One of my favorite collegiate choirs. I'm sure Dr. Clausen is fantastic.
what is up with the video edit at the end of measure 13, i mean the ladies (no offense to any of you i have had the same flukes happen in concerts I've been in) did come in a bit early, but still, why?! it completely ruins the mood of the piece. I actually am just a Senior in high school but we are doing this in the top choir (Rocky Mountain Singers) and it is one of my favorite songs so i was listening to this and was like "O.o wtf?" lol
@zapunisher1 yeah i realize that heck my choir is doing a clinic with Rene Clausen and singing with the Concordia Choir, I'm not an idiot. In other words, I believe maestroz25 that it was an editing error.
@zapunisher1 oh i might also mention that we are getting the Clinic for free, this is because my choir teacher is friends with Rene Clausen, so yeah. I know.
@guitarman14339 no need to get defensive, all you proved is that your director has money- of course i am under the assumption they went to college together but then again I could be totally wrong. It's ok, I forgive you!
@zapunisher1 lol he may be an accomplished composer, but he's not rich. He just had the chance to work with him and they became good friends, and therefore is able to give us this amazing opportunity without spending anything :)
@guitarman14339 We love the work that Maestroz does to promote choral music, particularly our own, but we always encourage that anything on youtube is only a hollow taste of the choral experience you can have at a live concert. Come hear us live and we promise you'll understand :)
A really nice piece. Unfortunately, the sopranos were a little too exuberant on the high notes at times. If that were taken care of, it would be near perfection.
Those of you in the AZ all-state choir-- if you haven't thought already, consider Concordia College!! I'm from Tempe, AZ and am going to be a Junior this coming year! It's a great school and an amazing choral program!
I'm also in the AZ all-state. Maybe I'll see you guys there! I'll be the dorky one at around chair 35 I think! I'm also freaking out about learning the music well enough!
Congrats on making the choir! I made it as well! I can hardly wait two weeks for RENE CLAUSEN :) I've found a pretty good recording of the Haydn piece. It's a video of a different all state choir. Look up the user Slink12345. It's posted there. Hope it helps! :)

This just absolutely sounds wonderful... Anyway, I made the Arizona All-State Choir and Rene Clausen is the clinician. Isn't that great!? I'm absolutely thrilled about it!
@Tibbershet - I made AllState too and I was looking up the music to hear it all together and found this; congrats and all that! .... yah, I'm way more excited than I should be but finding someone else looking up the music on youtube is way cool. =)
I first heard this piece by the MMEA Directors Chorus in August, 2009. It was directed by Rene Clausen.
My teacher was able to get the music before it was published so my home choir could do it- what a song. We took it on our retreat and just bonded to it, ending the weekend with an incredibly intimate and deep conversation which had our entire 83 person choir crying. There isn't any other song quite like Prayer. Thank you, Dr. Clausen!
This is beautiful... Colonel Dubee (I think that's his name) is our Arizona Regional Honor Choir director and he chose this song for us... This is a really great piece... Written by a really great man.
Gotta love those tenor ones

@guitarman14339 It also ruins the rhythm of the piece.

@guitarman14339 That was the video editing, the way we performed it was not like that.
