  • Man...I always thought this music was original. I actually heard the song that this was based on for the first time over this past weekend on one of those ol' skool radio party shows. The DJ went from the original (I have no idea who it was, but it reminded me of the Ohio Players) into "Freedom." It was pretty cool!

  • Yo Odawg,

The og track is a group called:

Freedom - Get Up and Dance

Furious 5 sampled most of their tracks back in the day! Almost never OG music. but they flipped it!

If you listen to "White Lines" The music is sampled from a group called Liquid Liquid. The song is called Cavern. It is dead on!

  • Man, thanks for the EDUCATION!I know my music, but there's always someone out there who knows more. I looked for "Get Up and Dance" and it's UP HERE! GREAT TRACK!!!

    Thanks again, dude.

  • Furious 5 never "sampled" (there were no samplers back then). The Sugar Hill label had a house band (Just like Motown) who would play the songs over. (Doug Wimbush was the bass player on most of these tracks who later went on to be a member of Vernon Reid's band "Living Colour") Look him up on youtube he's great bassist. The original record for this song was called "Freedom" but I forget the name of the band.

  • The name of the band was "Freedom", they were from Mississippi, the name of the song is "Get Up And Dance", it's here on Youtube.

  • Yeah. You're dead on! I think that group Liquid Liquid was from Europe

  • Ya gotta love the brass blowing and the bass guitar banging!

  • That real HIP HOP luv dat shit

  • AND YOU KNOW THAAAAAAAAAAT

  • Oh yeah!

  • Love this jam, back in da days when I was a kid, chillin in Coney Island having fun.

  • nice music

  • Ahh..this was (and still is) a true hip hop classic. Back in the day when all you had to do was come out, be yourself, and have a good time. Also, no tie or jacket required! :)

  • wow you gone done it, this was the jam i think i have the most memories with.. thank you. wow *smiles* *screams* lol

  • My dad was the bass player for Freedom!!!...

  • One of THE best party songs, in fact, I remember this song being played at my 8th birthday...skating party~ HO!!!

If you hear this song and aren't shaking your ass or at least tapping your feet, then you have no soul....NONE

  • one of the first records i ever bought!!! 1980!!!!

  • one of the first records i ever bought!!! 1980!!!!

  • Yep

    Definate hip-hop classic!!

~Thanks for the memories of ny block Parties.

  • thats exactly where it brings me, right back to the block parties and all the guys getting around with the cardboards to breakdance and spin on their heads LOL

  • is the Music !!!!

  • Man...back in the day when MCs were the most ARTICULATE people in music. My how times have changed. These days most would-be rappers and MCs sound like they've graduated from the Magic Johnson School of English...with advanced degrees in Marble Mouths.

  • LOL I like that!!!!!

  • R A P cOnCepT!!!! The BEsT tiMe For tHe HIp hOP!!!!

  • Nice Add! But I must add also, that it's the wrong Album-Cover (Just for preventing anyone from buying the wrong LP)

  • can i add that the bass player is off the chain!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • dang..I gotta go find my rollerskates and whistle!!!!! that's wassup 4real!!!!

  • This the jam, everyone has heard this even if only as a faint clip on the radio, or in a sample.

but this is the essence of great party music here.

  • The "Progressive 18" was rockin' burgandy sweat shirts with the felt fabric lightning bolts on the back. Reppin' the Boogie Down, Do or Die, Far Rock, and Strong Island. Big ups to the Coliseum on Jamacia Ave.... THIS is the REAL HIP-HOP. NEVA FORGET!!!! KDP

  • This is another Hip-Hop classic that not many people remember unless you were around during the begining of the Hip Hop movement in the late 70's & early 80's
