  • I just want to say, FLUGELBONE!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Two unique sounds*

  • Okay clear a few things up:

It IS possible to march with a concert tuba even thought its nuts.

    THESE ARE SOUSAPHONES NOT TUBAS.

There IS such a thing as MARCHING TUBAS.

They are TUBAS that rest on your shoulder, and are designed specifically for marching. A sousaphone is not a marching tuba; it just basically substitutes for the tuba part of the piece. (I'm pretty sure this is how people get the impression that a sousaphone is a tuba).

Two different instruments, two different unique s

  • @mw2addictish @37meghan and whoever else would like to know. While it is true that you can march with a concert tuba with enough bits, it is in no way normal. 37meghan, what you're talking about is a Contrabass Bugle, like what drum corps use. These are considered by manufacturers to be tubas, as King and other notable brands make them. There is a major exception as some manafacturers, such as King, do make convertibles that swap between marching and concert. These are normally of poor quality.

  • Who seen the tenor and Bari saxophones walking away in the background

  • one thing... why do tubas have the melody...? im all for giving the harmony section a chance, but that just doesnt really make sense when theres a trombone right there.

  • 0:45 Anybody else see the guys in the back with huge saxophones? o_o

  • @AmongDancingZombies Those are bari saxes, I play that and tuba.

  • where can i get the sheet music for this song for base cleff trombone, baritone, basoon etc

  • Muito Bom

  • o m g

  • girl tuba player! AWW YEAA =D

  • they're sousaphone not tubas, but that was soo kick ass. and u can tell the sousa player in red marches given his posture and horn angle.... go marching!

-ryan-- trombone, bass trombone, baritone, tuba

  • this ver good

  • @30 how ev u do it sousa player sounded like a sixth grader:)

    Get better then play it

  • i would have never know that was a baritone....

THEIR MARCHING TUBAS BITCH!!! SOUSAPHONES ARE MARCHING TUBAS!!!!! SHOW ME A VIDEO OF A PERSON MARCHING WITH A REGULAR TUBA!!!! SHOW ME DAMNIT!

  • @mw2addictish

Phantom Regiment marches with 13 of them.

  • @mw2addictish Correction: Those are Sousaphones. Marching Tuba's are different. Look 'DCI' you'll see them.

  • @mw2addictish Any video of the Buckingham palace marching band will have a regular tuba being marched. Most videos of military bands have regular tubas marching.

Sousaphones aren't used in drum corps (professional marching bands) because they prefer the shoulder held contrabass bugle which is closer to a regular tuba than a sousaphone by a longshot.

  • @mw2addictish Oh yeah, and there are still a lot (if not most) highschool bands that march convertible tubas which are regular, upright concert tubas that have a detachable leadpipe that can be repositioned so the horn can be set on the shoulder to play.

  • @mw2addictish Actually, these arn't marching tubas. a marching tuba is just like a regular tuba but it goeson the left shoulder. IT DOES NOT RAP AROUND THE BODY OF THE PLAYER AS THE SOUSAPHONE DOES. However marching, or Shoulder tubas, have better sound. I'm on a freshman in HS, but I have marched both and know the difference.

  • @jonevans331 The marching tuba is a convertible tuba. You can move the main slide to make it concert of marching.

  • @CoyoteGaming Depending on the model. Our marching tuba you can't do that with so we have to have a concert tuba as well. And a tuba doesn't have a slide.

  • @jonevans331 Our school we have sousas, but im talking about the Contrabass Tubas, they can be used for marching and for concert.

  • @CoyoteGaming I usea sousa for marching and concert. I'm not trying to argue anything, but u can use any form of tuba for any for of playing

  • @jonevans331 I think its just preference on what you want to use.

  • @CoyoteGaming I prefer the sousa at our school cuz our marchong tuba has a stuck valve. after the marching season was over, my directer broke it to me that we have 3 more sitting in the storage room. And needless to say I will ask to march them next year.

  • @mw2addictish I have witnessed this. Our Tubists now have weak shoulders and strong arms.

  • @mw2addictish just watch drum corps.

  • @mw2addictish well there is apparently a difference between a marching tuba and a sousaphone. A marching tuba looks like a concert tuba but the valves and mouth piece are in different. Sousaphones are in the same pitch, just with a different look. My high school uses silver sousaphones, but our rival school uses brass marching tubas.

  • @mw2addictish Actually my high school has two tubas in the marching and and both are just converted. So technically they are marching tubas.

  • @mw2addictish , Thats a marching Baritone, :) They have different Designs for concert Baritones, I am a Band Director for Junior High .

  • @BaileyTrombone21 What junior high

  • @purplepanamadolphins its actually a high school

  • @mw2addictish in the really high up bands (DCI to be excact) most of the bands actually have tuba players with ACTUAL tubass on their shoulder.

  • @mw2addictish Blaine Marching Bengals 2010 Parade Blaine's Blazin' 4th Parade see those big silver things on their shoulders? Yeah, they're tubas.

  • @mw2addictish my school marches with a regular tuba

  • @mw2addictish Jacksonville State University marches tubas.

You can find their shows all over youtube. They are really just good.

Google the "Marching Southerners" and check out the wikipedia page, where it says "The most radical instrumental change was the adoption of the Conn 20-J upright recording bass as the band's lead tuba, and Jacksonville State remains the only university marching band to use this heavy concert tuba on the field"

  • @mw2addictish Watch this, you can see it easily.

    /watch?v=CbpDKJ9ERQ0

  • @mw2addictish Actually there are quit a few band around my area that march with regular tubas. sometimes you see them @ international competitions like the BOA's

  • @mw2addictish my marching band actually has three tuba players, including myself, that play regular tubas, except that we buy attachments that allow the tubas to go on our shoulders. Its an inexpensive alternative to the sousaphone

  • @mw2addictish all the way in the back , full screen . When Marching bands don't have sousaphones, they use the plain tuba over the shoulder and use a mouthpiece add on to make it marchable . Its quite common in small bands .

    /watch?v=cNRhbRo9Ctk&feature=related

  • @Droideka133 lol. not all the way back, just that and people who cant afford one. i saw it once, one of those small town bands with one tuba player. he didnt have a sousaphone, so he just put it on his shoulder. THEY ARE FUCKING TUBAS PEOPLE!!!! HOW THE HELL DO YOU GET THEM MIXED UP??? dumbasses...

  • @mw2addictish no your dumb there is a difference between a marching tuba and sousaphone a sousaphone raps around as shown... a marching tuba rests on your shoulder

  • @mw2addictish are you people retarded? the "tubas" in the video are called sousaphones. As in the marching form of a tuba. it IS possible to march a concert tuba IF you have a sousaphone mouthpiece.

  • @mw2addictish LOL

  • @mw2addictish Military bands (Especially in Great Britain) often use a tuba to march with. visible at 1:24 /watch?v=pWcV7Bwmi34&feature=related

    visible at 4:20 /watch?v=0wFZrckA8CI&feature=related

  • @mw2addictish look up the phantom regiment, or about any DCI corps, they just use a shank that brings the mouthpiece to their mouth and a converted valve apparatus, they carry them on their shoulders.

  • @mw2addictish

    /watch?v=3T5vkxjur58#t=1m5s there you go

  • Our school needs a girl Tuba player! TUBA all the way baby! Also I'm low brass section leader, in ninth grade, only great things left to come!

  • I play baritone and t- bone and thought that was pretty good

  • Its pretty good :D couldnt help but get into it... I play baritone ;)

  • MORE COWBELL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • if only there was a trombone in that mix, o well.......SOUSAPHONES BITCHES!!!!!!! GET IT RIGHT!

  • the baritone cracked a lot of notes

  • Sousaphone, not tuba.

And what the hell is that kid on his knees playing? It's not a baritone, baritones' bells are pointed upwards. It looks like a funky euphonium.

  • @TheNinjaCow1 Sousaphone is a tuba, just look at it. And Thats a marching baritone.

  • @TheNinjaCow1 lol, ever been in a marching band?

  • Love the Gold Sousas, im used to silver which are cool but that looks nice!

Btw A Euph is just a baritone with a striahgt bell and a few other differences..but you call them Euphs not Baritones so stfu and call Sousa's Sousa's!

  • Damn Those Sousas Are Shiny Mine Is Completely Shitty Compared To That

  • thats a shiny baritone! mine is a school one and it has a silver finish but its really.. not shiny.

  • @Darklinxer12 yeah? my bell looks like a crumpled piece of aluminum

  • @robbokit mine's changing colors..

  • @Darklinxer12 bent to the max? mine too, like the whole thing is

  • @Darklinxer12 I personally like the silver finish

  • is that Alex and Jose from compton high?!?!?!?!?

  • @wcwsax lol jk

  • ok people go to the youtube serch bar then type tuba (watch any vid) then go back to the top a type sousaphone NOTICE ANYTHING BETWEEN THE TWO a sousaphone is a tuba but to make it work on the feild (for porjectory) it has to wrap around u a normal concert band tuba sits in ur lap not around u body (thumbs up if u agree) and if the thumbs up IS OLD

  • I wish I could still play my tuba like that lol

  • Contras > Sousaphones. HOWEVER they are both tubas. just the marching varient

  • gostei

  • why have three tubas and no harmony?...defeats the purpose. im a Dobyns-Bennet tuba player.... nothing wrong with taking it two octaves up or adding thirds. lol

  • 11 people r jealous that they cant play this

  • @HWaldstein1997,thats cus it is,sousaphones are i think as low as the tuba.baritone is next to the tuba.

  • is this in texas?

  • This is my school's theme song, and I play Baritone ^^

  • NICE GUYS !! :))) and girl :))

  • Comment removed

  • john phillip sousa says tuba and sousaphone are same instrument ;)

  • es muy buenala intencion muchachos sigan adelante

  • Tuba, sousaphone, contra bass, get over it. All three have beautiful sounds, no matter what setting. Concert, or marching. -.-

  • @DesuDoujinshiLover actually sousas only sound beautiful when a great player is playing and these people are pretty good

  • @Barisolo10

Okay, all of the instruments have the POTENTIAL to sound beautiful.

  • I love listening to the sousaphones but would much rather see some shoulder mount Tubas. They are beast

  • why the fuck does the baritone not have the melody??? i play baritone and tuba, this is a song where baritone needed that

  • soooooooooooooooooooo beast.

  • People shut up about the sousaphone/tuba thing. A sousaphone is a marching tuba, yeah thats right, a tuba! Dont correct people saying tuba, its still a correct term for a sousaphone.

  • @SPAS12beast Actually the Contra would be the "Marching Tuba". Sousaphone is not called a Tuba in marching, except by uneducated people. <-- This learned from my time in the 4 different band programs I have been in.

  • oehhh shiny

  • poor lone baritone

  • is that fmhs

  • Sound Greatt!(;

  • Wait where is this at, I think my band played here for MPA Festival

  • sousaphones not tubas dumbasses

  • @brookehunter1996 ... Yes they are. Just because they have different names and tubing from concert to marching doesn't really make them different.

  • The baritone sounds high next to the sousaphones, which is a nice change for me, being the lowest player in my band, and also the only baritone.

  • @HWaldstein1997 I play the baritone. I much perfer playing my trumpet, though

  • @HWaldstein1997 dude that stinks. we had only one tuba in a band of 80. I felt bad for sometimes, especially russian christmas music and other songs...him

  • @HWaldstein1997 same here

  • @HWaldstein1997 Your band has no tubas? Unacceptable.

  • @NDguy191 Ugh! I totally agree, although, at the time I wrote that comment, I was in like 7th grade band.

  • @HWaldstein1997 wow dude i feel your pain i am the only baritone in my band

  • @tannerpanthers1 i managed to get a section of 3 together XD

  • @ProfessorN64 wow lol good job i would love to play this on tuba

  • @HWaldstein1997 I am the only baritone player in my high school band too

  • @HWaldstein1997 ha, we only have 5 baritones.. 2 of them just plain suck.. one thinks shes all that, and isnt. so that leaves me and my best friend..... which we are switching to trombone XD i feel sorry for the baritones XD

  • Dang too bad I can't show you the sousashop quartet and our version of hang on sousa. (Hang On Sloopy) We were never recorded doing it.

  • OK to clarify both contras and sousaphones are a variation of tuba for marching purposes the video is sousaphones and one baritone

  • that baritone has brought shame to all baritones.i wouldve played way louder than all them sousaphones

  • Everybody, idk if you know this, but those are sousaphones, not tubas.

  • cool

  • nice sound. tuba could use for sticato. baritone nice job.

  • I'm sorry when I posted this I was like 11. I was so immature back then. Yes it was childish and I am sorry. If I could take that back and say something else I would say "I am sorry to inform you that those are not tubas if you didn't know already, but those are sousaphones"

  • Okay, I don't get why the fuck people are having fits and losing their panties over "OMG, THAT'S NOT A TUBA, THATS A SOUSAPHONE RETARD." Really, no one fucking cares. It's not gonna change the fact that people are still gonna generalize them as tubas. Get over it, children. Let it go.

  • notice the barry sax in the background at 0:44

  • The Baritone should've played the melody, not the bass...

  • Hey look I have a most liked! WOOHOO :) Any ways I was young so Im sorry if retard was offensive

  • First off, you need to post a video teaching how to play that, i play baritone, and second, what school are you at?

  • Everyone mixes up the sousaphone with the tuba almost everyone just get it right a tuba is smaller but bigger than a baritone tuba is small to the sousaphone cause that thing is huge freaking sousaphone get it right SOUSAPHONE NOT TUBE BUT THAT IS A BARITONE.

  • ... how can you actually know and have recorded these people and not know what instrument they're playing

  • you sound pretty good, but i have to agree that is sousaphone. i also want to know if you have the music sheet for that.

  • Sousaphone, tuba, whatever. This sucks.

  • baritone is awesome i love it and play it

  • I hate all this people calling sousaphones are not tubas morons!!!

Sousaphones are tubas they are just the marching difference of it!!!!

  • @xDingox89 I agree, but they do make a marching Tuba. No need to argue though. It does the same thing.

  • @xDingox89 they are different instruments. thats like saying euphonia are the same as baritones

  • @xDingox89 Sousaphones are not the marching version of a tuba. There is actually a specific marching tuba. Sousaphones have a different sound.

  • @ohtengeneral That's correct I play a Tuba

  • @ohtengeneral i think their called contras

  • @xDingox89 Well, yes and no...

They are different instruments and they do make different tones. In all technicality, a sousaphone is not a tuba, but for marching band, it takes the place of the tuba :P

  • @xDingox89 Except marching tubas are way more awesome

  • @xDingox89 my friend marched with a legit tuba.

  • @xDingox89 My marching band has a legit TUBA not a sousaphone. The difference in the form = difference in sound. Even the tiniest difference. Try using a double sided tuba while marching while it's on your shoulder.

  • @xDingox89 Sousaphones aren't tubas, tubas actually sound well, sousas sound like shit.

  • @xDingox89

sorry it's not a tuba. Tuba can have a nice sound, sousaphone sounds like a bad tuba player.

  • the girl playin is cute

  • @brandonrockzallout ur crazy kidd

  • come on tubas louder the baritone sounds louder tubas rock

  • @MegaSousaphone that's an insult dude i play baritone and i rock! lol i could blow the baritonist in here away

  • deer baritone player play louder i'm like the only baritone/trombone & i can out play the rest of the band

  • YEAH BARITONE!!!

  • what was the point of the Euph player?

  • nice, but tubas should be on bass, euph on melody. it makes more sense from an arrangement point of view (and would have sounded better)

  • @ElPolloLoco4330 Tuba is always melody Always!

  • Fantastic!!!

  • no their not ones used for concerts if you suck but if your good you can use both for anything and thats sexy a girl playing sousaphone

  • What is the guy in the front playing?

  • Euphoniums Kick Brass!

  • SEARCH MSU TUBAS PLAY CRAZY TRAIN THATS HOW ITS DONE!!!

  • baritone pride

  • def not tubas tubas are way better

  • the sousaphones were awesome but that baritone was kinda pointless :/

  • trombones are better, we do it in seven positions. ;)

  • @deansintensity YES, lol that is going to be on our next section t-shirt

  • @mustangcrazy444 and it takes care of the wrist exercises so you can get on to the REAL action ;)

  • @deansintensity lol how long did it take for you to come up with that

  • @mustangcrazy444 the funny thing is that i didnt come up with it, my band teacher was joking about it last year and i thought it was a good time to re-use it :P

  • @deansintensity wow , i think the funniest thing my band teacher said to the trombones was "4+4+0 because i'm to lazy to finish the 8", because we we moving our slides really slow

  • wow i have better tone quality and i'm in middle school

  • good but the echo is getting me so bad!!!!

  • You guys are arguing about things that really don't matter at all...a sousaphone is pitched in the same key as most beginner tubas and it sounds relatively the same. It's not that big of a deal.

  • WOOOWOWWWW EUPHONIUM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (i dont like calling it baritone its demeaning to me)

  • @narutofanatic40 Well.. he's playing a marching baritone, its not a marching euphonium

  • wow.. aawesome.. chick playin tuba!!!

    damn!!

imma need a tuba player for a band!!! imma aske the girl for her number!!

  • sousas ftw

  • Yeah Baritone!! Woo-woot! Yes, and the baritone lives on for another awesome part!

  • @aliadurfee I play the Baritone too! :D

  • i hate sousa phone its painful and takes a long time to put together marching tuba is better

  • Sousaphones and tubas are the exact same instrument. Sousaphones are just marching tubas. Same way with baritone an euphonium. I should know,I play all of them. And I am a chick. Just an Fyi :)
