Zena, great to see that you are in the top ten! And quite illuminating to read some of these comments and realize how thick-skinned artists have to be. Wish we could all manage to be more supportive of each other. Re: stories that are overdone - glad Tolstoy did not avoid war stories and/or adultery tales - WAY overdone, both topics, don't you think? :-) Good luck and keep us posted.
Remember everyone, this competition is about supporting Montana filmmaking. I hope for either Zena our Magpie to win and I will support both win or lose. I'm not going to change my opinion based on claims people are making. Let's keep it about the films.
@BeyondEntFilms I agree! Suddenly so much drama added to all of this, people need to remember what this competition is all about & keep their personal drama out of it! Hoping that people will set aside their personal differences & support filmmaking in Montana, it is an amazing place & needs to be shown off. I think that either Zena or Magpie would do a great job with that. I hope that no matter what both films get made & do really well. So sad what some people have resorted to.
@alishadyk , I agree, fully agree. What some have resorted to is terrible. I just wanted people to know who is out there making these films. And what they have done to enter. It shouldn't hurt others in any way to make a film. People first, then everything will fall into place. And I love that Zena and most others are honest and good hearted people. Those are the ones that should be rewarded. Not ones that take everything from a disabled vet, and then kick him to the curb.
@kevhilton1 Hi Kevin, I can see that my film is not exactly your taste. However, I assure you, it will be a very happy day if it wins. :) All the best, Zena
As Executive producer, one of the main actors in Cooper and owner of both companies that made Cooper. I would choose this movie. She is an honest and hard working person that will make Montana proud. I sure do hope that you win.
@MrSteveo0088 Wow, thank you so much for your kind comments, Steve. They mean more than you know. You honor me and humble me with your generous support. Thank you.
@zenaLowe , no problem at all. I have heard some great things about you. I do hope you win. The Magpie one is using my property to enter this competition. Very upsettting, and dishonest. I feel we need good people to make movies here, not people that are ok with hurting others. So I do hope you win, and if you need actors let me know, I have been in 3 features now. I am also writing a major script right now and working very hard on making it happen. Good luck and God Bless.
@MrSteveo0088 Your part in Cooper was pretty minimal and this story could take place anywhere. I'm mad at the Cooper team too but at least there story is relevant to Montana.
@TheBenTrotter , I didn't realize paying for everything, doing all the paperwork, dealing with SAG, Making the two companies, researching all the legal aspects of working in MT as a company, then as a film. lossing 27 pounds for my character, the story revolving around that character. Making sure we had all locations, getting last minute paperwork done, and still paying for Cooper. I own both companies, Cooper is mine, and this makes what I did Minimal? Good to know. Thanks Ben..
@TheBenTrotter , Zena's story is not only true. But hits home for a lot of people who have watched their family die from cancer (like me). It is very MT. And the fact that it is a true story, she has a lot of experiance, and is entering this contest legally and honestly unlike another entry. We (MT) could use a person like this to make a great movie that will touch a lot of people, and just her experiance and resorces are enough for me. God Bless
Just my opinion here but the story doesn't sound all that intriguing to me. The "dysfunctional family reunion" is kind of over done, the only thing that is original in my mind is the setting.
@5thManProductions - Well, as they say, there's nothing new under the sun. Which means it's all about execution. I wonder if you would feel the same if you actually read the script. Adam Arkin quite likes it.... But perhaps you don't like him, either.
Beautiful! After seeing several of your works I've come to expect a witty, clever character study, always extremely insightful, at times biting, but with a strong current towards redemption and breakthrough for character and viewer alike. Dry wine and sizzling embers. This will be interesting, I'm anticipating a great film!
Just to clarify my comment (mostly so if judges are reading these comments, it is clear) what I mean by not too Montana-y, is not too cowboys and indians, or too emphasis on how outdoorsy everyone supposedly is--it is time for the world to know that we aren't still sending our kids to school on horses!!!! ;) Hence why I love your angle!!!
By the way, I loved the idea even as a drama, but when you mentioned it to be more in the vein of The Garden State, LIttle Miss Sunshine, I think that is where you really knocked a home run! That keeps it from being too Montana-y, but still using the critical elements of Montana that will make it an amazing film. I hope that the judges see it the same way! You get my vote for sure and I would LOVE to see this film!!!!
I LOVE this idea. And because it is so personal, I am sure that script is amazing. It makes me think of a Montana 'The Family Stone'. As a long time Montana resident, I would love for the film to win this project not to be too cliche of Montana. I think Zena's idea is great!
Zena, what a wonderful presentation. So clearly full of passion, love and great storytelling. I'm so excited for you - and I am sending thoughts and prayers that you will be picked!
Booking my ticket for Montana now! :) ... okay, not really. But I know you, I know the quality of your work, and I can't WAIT to see this happen for you! I know it will! This and so much more!
Awesome Zena! Hope I get an opportunity to work on this. Go Montana! We're trying to pitch some local films ourselves so it's good to see we aren't the only ones. :-)
Two thumbs up!! Let's make this movie! I'm confident Zena's script will resonate with viewers and critics alike. Please lend all possible support to its production. Thanks, Tom and Emily Burtness
My mother died 2 years ago of cancer, and with mixed emotions us four siblings have sold the family farm in Indiana since no one was coming back. That "dramedy" is a perfect description of our family interactions including the laughs, tears and celebration of our mother meeting Jesus. The location is INCREDIBLE!! Wishing I could be there for filming! Blessings, Rodney
I loved the idea when we first chatted about it, and am so glad to hear that support is building for this! Sending good thoughts your way for a win!- susan
