  • 50 percent don't want evolution to be taught in school? Please, thy lord, heal my pain! Which brings me to that sherri woman from the show The View in which she didnt know whether the earth was flat or not claiming "i never thought about whether the earth was flat or not, but i have thought about how i would feed my kids". Well my point is this, if you don't inform yourself or educate yourself in the subject, then you have absolutely no say in whether or not evolution should be taught in school.

  • genomes are awesome and you dont agree you can fuck off

  • is mr G-nome a midget with a crowbar?

  • LMAO... this camera man is a lulzcow.

  • Did anyone happen to catch what the manufacturer was for the servers?

  • After completing my uni course on genetics I can appreciate this video more than ever!

  • 11:55 you will notice that this interview takes place at approximately 2:30

  • What they are saying is. In a couple of years they could remake dinosaurs if they wanted to. Pretty damn awesome.

  • could someone recommend me more super-influential geniuses of our time like craig venter? i'm eager to learn more about advancing science, technology, philosophy, etc.

  • @myfreepaysite1

    Google "TED Talks"

  • @dingusmungus ted talks suck dude. i had to watch them in school. maybe 1% of them are interesting.

  • best video I watched in a long time. Tis is what we need. Two giants of the 21st century educating us on new technologies and advances in evolutionary Biology. More knowledge and sense in this 1 hour vid than all of cable news combined in the last 10 years. we'll leave that for the creationists and teabaggers. awesome vid.

  • This is just awesome. Two awesome people, discussing awesome things, in an awesome place.

  • I, for one, welcome our new genomic overlords.

  • @wgfcrafty ahahahahha lmfao very good

  • Wheres the Terminator?

  • i want my pet min-rex

  • You've just witnessed the end of the Earth.

  • @NorthNorth2009 I agree, they are taking viruses from the deep and sequencing them?

I think they are looking for something in particular.

Hope something does not "figure" out how to survive and kill up here.

    well not really.

  • @EviIDne I should of said the loss of our freedom and the horrific rest of it from someone who thinks they are God. Well it's good do see that venter had a good life surfing and being carefree because that will be a thing of the past for others.

  • @NorthNorth2009 People said the same regarding atomic energy. You people ought to be locked in insane asylums for being in the way of progress.

  • @HybridD91 Atomic energy equals destruction. That is not progress. Progress is free non inpacting on the enivironement energy.

  • @NorthNorth2009 Atomic energy also equals energy resource if done correctly. You're ignoring that point.

  • @HybridD91 No!!! atomic is obsolete.

  • @NorthNorth2009

    wiki/Helium-3#Power_generation

You need to learn more about where nuclear research is going. It truly is a potential source of unlimited clean energy in the near future. Your issues with nuclear power are really issues with the reactor technologies used by governments who want nuclear weapons. Utilizing biology to generate power is amazing and I fully support continuing research, but atomic and particle science is the foundation of all physical matter and energy.

  • @HybridD91 Well said.

  • @HybridD91 You people ought to be locked up in insane asylums for creating weapons of mass destruction and creating nuclear power disasters.

  • I totally love this building everything in it looks sterile

  • Is Richard trying to see how many times he can say "yes" in an hour?

  • The difference between scientists and religious leaders; scientists can't wait to show others what happens behind the closed curtains, religious leaders go to great lengths trying to hide all that.

  • Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes

  • @Pee Richard Dawkins Is 5 Down With No Frown.

  • @Pee He's NOT Even Paying Attention To What Mr. Venter Is Saying, He's Yes'in On His Hands Free Phone With His Hoes Overseas.

  • Man, if you could have your genome done in the spot at the doctor's office, they would be able to foresee so man things about your health. That's just incredible.

  • I want my genome done.

  • @LesPaul2006 I Got Mines Did.

  • Those are amazing machines. Watching this video is like having sex with a supermodel.

  • @duguder You've Had Sex With A Supermodel? Did You Make Her At Home?

  • @Pee Homemade Hoe.

  • i just asked a girl "how long does it take for the earth to orbit around the sun?" . she doesn't know the answer. she said "i don't know.. i forgot. i dont study anymore"

  • @JohnF30Music Did You Toot It And Boot It And Make Her Feel STOOPID?

  • @JohnF30Music Which means she stopped thinking and now works as a creationist.....bnbbahoaohohaohoaha

  • Yes.

  • Everyone seems to be asking about what he did. Dr. Venter's lab started with 4 bottles of chemicals (A T G C) and a machine to build a custom DNA chain from scratch. They took a cell (which is just a bunch of little dead machines without the DNA) took out its DNA and inserted this man-made DNA. The cell came to life and was now a man-made species. The entire instructions for how the cell was to behave was made by men with 4 chemicals in bottles in a lab. It is synthetic life.

  • 110% Amazing.

  • LOL! He's saying he created life from scratch while he used a living cell to do that! Man will NEVER be able to create life. The Quran challenges man to create a single fly.

  • @lotr450...So, he just proved life???

  • @freedomland11 He relied on pre-existing life.

  • @lotr450...He never said anything about pre-existing life... As I understood, those machine will eventually create atoms out of nothing!! Why bring the Quran into this?

  • @freedomland11 Didn't you see the video. He claimed to have started life from scratch where he actually used a living bacterial cell to inject the DNA and replicate. Is that what you call starting life from scratch? Man will never EVER create life out of nothing and the Quran challenges man to create a single bee from scratch.

  • @lotr450.....Hmmm, where what part was it that he mentions that?? So, I can have clarity :)... but to also reply on your comment, that isn't from scratch..but why would you say God created life, if human being haven't solved it yet? and why do you think we can never solve that answer?... We never dreamed to be where we are now, imagine 100 years from now..Science will mos def improve!!

  • @freedomland11 Mos Def!

  • @PeeGeeBeeDee...and Talib Kweli...

  • @freedomland11 Together They Make Black Star(S). FAMOUS NIGGERS.

  • @PeeGeeBeeDee..obviously, you know nothing of evolution.!! and no (S) in the title...

  • @freedomland11 Well, I Know American Society Has Evolved To Make Niggers Famous.

  • @Pee If I Had It My Way They'd All STILL Be On The Plantations.

  • @lotr450

Please stop referring to a book about a mass murdering warlord and open your mind to science. We're still far away from creating a bee, but we're also rapidly advancing.

And don't be such a pessimist, there is huge untapped potential in this line of research that can assist mankind in surviving the changes to our environment, and perhaps ultimately conquering other planets to inhabit.

  • @khatack What an idiot. The Quran is not about mass murder. You're fucking ignorant if you think so.

And I'm not a pessimist. I'm optimistic for science but I'm just saying the facts the man will NEVER create a bee despite the momentous advances in science and technology.

  • @lotr450

    And your indisputable evidence?

And maybe you should study the history of Islam a little closer. There may be something about Mohammad that you may not be aware of, such as his nine year old wife and his tendency to murder "infidels".

  • @khatack I know the history of Islam more than you do. It was common for a man to marry a young woman. It wasn't until later that it was considered a "taboo".

Tendency to murder infidels? Are you kidding!? The Prophet was very merciful and he only fought "infidels" when they were attacking him first. I suggest you rectify your understanding of the history of Islam.

  • @lotr450

A nine year old girl is not a "young woman", a nine year old girl is a small child. Pedophilia may have been more acceptable in the culture your prophet lived in, but there is a reason it isn't acceptable today. Except apparently in the Islamic world where this kind of thing still happens.

But enough of that, I'm sure you can ponder the moral questions on your own, but you still didn't give me the evidence to back up your claim about artificial life.

  • @lotr450 I think you need to go back to the beginning of Islamic history and look deep into their ideology.

  • @lotr450 Do you even know how DNA formed?

  • Awesome, science - winning!

  • dawkins seems like he would suck darwins cock if given half the chance...

  • @dionstrezlecki So Would I. Lemme Suck YO Dead Dick, Darwin!

  • @dionstrezlecki Good one.

  • @dionstrezlecki you sound like a religious fag

  • can oly arise from preexisting life bleh

  • He created" the first cell with a synthetic genome". As a physics major I'm pretty clueless what this means. Can any knowledgeable person please explain? :)

  • @sadathusain can be googled but i guess it means he completely made all the dna himself , (well yeh articles on it say they did and they even encoded a bunch of the amino acids/nucleotides wateva with specific sequences ie-their names, the alphabet etc..) i guess if completely true it (which i doubt it is and in my mind theres something more sinister to it, ie. deceiving the people that life can arise from mankinds hands as opposed to gods) it completely abolishes the thought that life

  • @sadathusain They killed a cell, extracted the DNA and then inserted some DNA they had created themselves into the dead cell. Voilá! Our cell revived. Lazarus stirs.

  • I like Charles Dawkins but dislike Craig Venter because he tried to impose copyrights on genetic information that makes us. It's like patenting the sun and charge anyone who uses it to produce vitamine D in their skin. Watson and Crick (co-discoverer of DNA structure) opposed it because knowledge of the natural world should be accessible to everyone of us. Craig Venter is an immoral man.

  • @260191894 Well, yeah if you take intp the account the government funded project was taking long and didn't want to try his method, thus causing him to leave and get funds from private corps (which can explain the copyrights, he has to play the game) that oked his shotgun method and did what it took the government years in a matter of months, yeah he's immoral. However, I do catch your point, knowledge shouldn't cost but there was a trade off made for quicker progress.

  • !Viva Richard Dawkins!

  • This reminds me Half Life

  • Great interview. I loved the way he said, evolution is a fact now!

  • Craig paid by B.P. F.U. Craig!

  • the cameraman is crazy! is he playing hide and seek with them? haha

  • The worst part, the US military is stronger /spends more than ever other military in the world.... COMBINED.

  • @mochopz Thats not even close to being true. Although the US spends almost 7 times as much on defense as the next country, China, US military expenditures account for less than half of the world's total reported spending. As for strength, China has almost twice the active military personnel and also has nuclear weapons. Our defense budget is bloated because we buy our equipment new at a premium and sell it to others cheap. The US isn't the unstoppable military juggernaut many people think it is.

  • Two atheist biologist, and awesome science.

    Love these videos !

  • Craig Venter is an absolute giant of a scientist. He is the most important geneticist since Francis Crick.

  • Why do religious people still insist that Darwin had a deathbed conversion ??? WHY ???? why the hell do you care ??? Even if he did because of say.. senile madness.. THAT DOESN'T ELIMINATE the overwhelming evidence for EVOLUTION!!

  • Science is fucking interesting.

  • @caseybv74 nothing wrong with my sentences the Bible is right & since u disagree, that makes u wrong Another Settled FACT

  • @62Elvis What?

  • "TRUE" SCIENCE ALWAYS CONFIRMS THE BIBLE, PSEUDO-SCIENCE ALWAYS "ATTEMPTS" TO DISCREDIT THE BIBLE.

  • @62Elvis Yea science discovered we are all made from dirt, and bronze aged humans can build a building large enough to make god wet his panties.

  • bottom line - be Saved or burn in hell - its up to you; youre disgusted? its disgusting that satan has blinded the spiritual eyes of multiple millions like yourself.

  • @62Elvis Yea it's disgusting. "Believe what I believe or spend eternity being tortured" - and you have the gall to say that satan has blinded ME?

I doubt you even have a strong idea what science is

  • @62Elvis

Atheists think that scientists can create life, lol, please watch my video dear Christian brother: Craig Venter and Richard Dawkins Vs Mythical Characters: /watch?v=UYO9AuEhFwo

  • @helasmoh Craig Venter and his team took DNA from an organism, recreated it on a computer, and inserted it into a dead cell and it started self replicating. Not creating life (not to mention scientists who ran experiments where amino acids and RNA self assembled) but that is far more than what your god can do.

  • @62Elvis Learn how to put a sentence together, fuckhead.

  • the Bible is the ONLY Word of God in book-form and DARWIN got Saved before he died and JESUS IS GOD - these are the Facts.

  • @62Elvis Jesus lives and your name is 62Elvis enough said.

  • @62Elvis You're WRONG! the Quran is the Only Work of God in book form, Oh Wait it's the Torah, No the book of mormon...

    Now I'm confused!

  • @rbxCriss Confused? Congratulations! You are now officially religious!

  • Great conversation! I think that it would be better if they just stood in one place so your attention didn't have to content with moving stimuli and such.

  • get your facts straight before u write things online.

  • its NOT fabrication read your history think before u speak son! its disgusting because u need to be Saved like me and darwin.

  • @62Elvis Yeah, I know my history. Ironically, there are even well researched and referenced Christian resources which deny your fabrication - christiananswers net being one of them.

At the end of the day however, I consider the whole deathbed conversion thing to work against you. If it takes vulnerability derived from a long illness and impending death to make one want to be "saved", it doesn't say much for the strength of your position

As I was saying, vulturism disgusts me

  • its a FACT that c darwin got Saved or Born-Again before he died.

  • @62Elvis Firstly, his so-called conversion is widely considered to be a fabrication, not "fact"

Secondly, this is just another example of religious vulturism I find disgusting

  • @62Elvis it's not a fact it's a LIE invented by Christians to make themselves look better

  • I wonder what Dawkins' opinion is on the first synthetic cell. Ironically it's the closest we've been to creating life meaning that Craig Venture is probably the closest thing to a theistic God.

  • I love America, Although If we could take about 50%-60% of our defense budget and put it to science, we would be exploring mars right now.

  • I know this is sooo irrelevant to science but I had to comment LOL at the beginning roughly 1:01 the security guard comes out and says "you guys gotta go" Haha, did anyone else catch that? Anyway, I would love to debate but I can`t seem to stop laughing!!

  • @Nattielockx SECUUUUUUUUUUURITY!

  • You can tell Dawkins will become a pointless old man soon just like we all will someday.

  • @tnus03 Except he will be remembered as one of the most notorious freethinkers of our time.. He has produced amazing scientific and litterary work.. what have you done ??? nothing. right. Not everybody will be as POINTLESS as you, mate.

  • @eswolf84 yes but in the end he will be forgotten along with the whole human race. Time will consume us all and we will be as "Pointed" as the colony of ants i squish beneath my foot. The point is there is no point and no matter how much we fight against it that fact will never change. You could say dawkins is a champion of pointlessness in the sense that theism is the main if not the only challenger to pointlessness. We exist then we don't. Everything we do in that time is POINTLESS. mate.

  • @tnus03 I actually understand your point.. but this reminds me of a certain quote by Carl Sagan: "we make our world significant by the courage of our questions and the depth of our answers"

In such a magnificent cosmos if we want to have any importance at all we have to embrace our destiny with courage and objectivity. The existence of the visionaries who have placed us where we are: In a world now full of technology, was never pointless. MATE.

  • Comment removed

  • @tnus03 By the way, if you want to feel less pointless … read some Kierkegaard… it might help.

  • @frankjohnson123

I'd bet it's even worse in Brazil. That's why maybe good business men take their labs and institutions further compared to those financed by the government.

  • I wish I was smart enough to participate in this

  • @charmander4533 You can be. Anyone can be. The knowledge is on the internet for anyone to take for free. search Khanacademy on youtube.

  • @charmander4533 listen, you can always find a comfort in the truth. Talking snake, killing a goat, while at killing make sure you get the infidel as well... Cut off limbs to a stealer and make sure your wife wears a hijab... after that it's all good.... Peace be upon you.

  • @49fiori .......wtf are you even talking about, and how does that in any way have to do with what I said.

  • @49fiori speak plain like an adult instead of using attention grabbing riddles like a child to cause disruption

  • @deriik2020 it causes disruption only in the slowest minds...

  • @49fiori so you like to pick on people who you think are slower than you?

  • @deriik2020 that's not true, you commented on my comment, I replied to you knowingly that I will get gibberish for answers, white noise, a dial tone....

  • @49fiori U were causing disruption with a guy well before I came here. You claimed what you were saying BEFORE I got here to some other guy was causing disruption only b/c he has a slow mind. So this means you were picking on him despite knowing he had a small mind. Surprised such a big mind couldn't follow that logic guess it musta been too disruptive for your small mind huh

  • @deriik2020 next

  • @49fiori next what? Finish your sentence like a big minded boy.

  • @49fiori You are very child like and simple minded

  • @deriik2020 Charmander4533 wishes to be smart enough to participate in this, me too! I agree with him. To participate in scientific research of such caliber like Dr. Craig Venter enjoys it takes a lot of hard work and a lot of studying. To make a point, a cynical one, which your slow mind didn't catch, I suggested to charmander4533 that it is easier to engage in the "truth of religion" which talks about killing a goat or an infidel, it is an easier escape for slow minded, such as yourself...

  • @49fiori you're also missing the point. I'm only saying you're talking like an ass. Speak plainly. nobody is giving you bonus points for being uppity. Your small mind can't comprehend such a simple point how sad.

  • @charmander4533 in 30 years you will be smart enough to due to human-computer interfaces.

  • @charmander4533 So Do I.

  • And how does this benefit humanity?

  • @bugsz1 could you be more specific about what "this" is?

  • @bugsz1 Improved diagnosis of disease

Earlier detection of genetic predispositions to disease

    Rational drug design

Gene therapy and control systems for drugs

    Pharmacogenomics "custom drugs"

    Some examples of the benefits

  • @bugsz1 It benefits the elite and the ones who are running the world.

  • that is garbage that dawkins says @ 50 seconds in. it is a fact that scientists have skewed evidence or made dubious reports to be 'fact' whenever they had a pre-existing notion or bias. racial science in the 19th & even 20th century are full of examples of this

  • thanks to both of you guys, this was great

  • Craig and Richard ... this is a extremely informing "Celtic R1b job" ...I love it guys THANKS !!

  • Demokritosabdera

Are you kidding me? Watch the video again and again until you understand what I'm talking about.

  • I never thought I'd live to see Dawkins and Venter together *-*

  • The work Venter is doing is utter rubish. As a naturalist and bio-geneticist I can tell you this is taking us light years away from naturalistic biology and giving the ID'rs & creastionists credence to their deranged thought.

  • @goshawker07 how are in vitro genomes ID fodder?

  • @goshawker07 reading your recent comments one can tell your lies have no boundaries.

  • Skeptical examination of the facts is still an agenda - just a good agenda. Oh and Dawkings is not a skeptic anyway.

ANd YES many scientists go out of their way to prove certain things. Even people like Einstein ...

  • Just posting in epic video comment section!

  • This is much better than the Venture Bros. compound!

  • This is much better than the Venture compound...

  • last to responses are my comments.

  • Harun Yahway American Turkish Creationist scientist response:

The recent news about two scientists who have decided to work for synthesizing a new type of bacteria has attracted great attention in the media. J. Craig Venter, a well-known gene scientist and Hamilton O. Smith, a Nobel laureate, are behind the plan. What they are trying to do is:

  • to create a single-celled, partially man-made organism with the minimum number of genes necessary to sustain life. If the experiment works, the microscopic man-made cell will begin feeding and dividing to create a population of cells unlike any previously known to exist.

  • Some people are inclined to see this "creation of life" in the laboratory as an evidence for the theory of evolution. Nothing can be further than the truth. In fact, if these scientists, or others, manage to synthesize a life form, they will be confirming the basic argument for creation - the argument that life is only possible through intelligent design.

To realize this, one needs to recall what the two theories about origins, namely evolution and creation, mean:

  • 1) The Darwinistic theory of evolution argues that life on Earth is the product of natural laws and blind chance. The theory denies the existence of any intelligent and guided process in the origin of life.

    2) Creation argues that life on Earth is not the product of natural laws and blind chance - they don't have such power. A conscious creator must have designed life.

  • If there can be any experimental or observational evidence for evolution, this should be the emergence of life from non-living matted through a non-designed process. In other words, scientists should observe that, out of inanimate matter, a living organism should arise by itself. Such an observation has never been made and, in fact, the history of the 20th century science shows that this is literally impossible.

  • The gap between life and nonlife is so huge that it can only be filled with the presence of an intelligent designer. Like the fact that the gap between a piece of rock and a statue by Michelangelo can only be filled by intelligent act of sculpture - not by natural causes like rain, wind or earthquake.

  • So, what will happen when scientists - if they really can - synthesize a new microbe species by a meticulous work? The answer is obvious: They will confirm the intelligent design theory by experimentally showing that life can come about only through very specified and complex information.

  • In fact, what Craig Venter and Hamilton Smith are trying to do is much simpler than what evolution requires to have happened by chance. They are not trying to build proteins from amino acids or genes from nucleic acids; they will simply use the pre-existing proteins and genes of a living cell.

  • They are not starting from the building blocks that can be found in nature; but they are starting from the already built complex macromolecules that could never have been synthesized from those building blocks through natural processes. In others words, they are not trying to build a house from bricks; they are just trying to make a little change in the structure of an already existing house. An MSNBC report reads:

  • IN A NUTSHELL, what Venter and Smith propose to do is create a very simple microbe. Some viruses have only 400 or 500 genes. Venter and Smith are going to remove the genes from one such tiny bug, synthesize a new set of genes, drop them into the bug and see if the new instructions will bring the microbe to life

  • Even this easy job - when compared to the origin of life itself - requires a great deal of information and design. This project is based on the scientific information which modern science accumulated throughout the past centuries, plus the advanced level of technology that we

  • have reached. Despite these, it is still such a complex job that the project is funded with a $3 million, and three-year grant from the Energy Department.

Thus the search for artificial life, like other scientific developments of our day, confirm the fact that life on Earth is not the product of blind natural causes. All life, including ourselves, is the artifact of the Creator, who has the power and wisdom to create everything that exists.

  • Isnt it FUNNY that this man was given 3 million dollars to fund to create new LIFE? with the support of intelligence? yet Atheists say: No intelligence is required for the creation of this universe and everything in it...lol thats includes the first living cell..
