Ok, first of all, they are both good. Unfortunately 2009 Rachel was not the same as 2010 Rachel. She may have been able to beat Zenyatta but we will never know. You can't give Rachel credit for something that has never happened. Also, if Zenyatta had raced Rachel in 2010, she would have beaten her, but Rachels owner backed out every time. We will never know, but you have to admit that Rachel is the one who came back the next year and was not even close to being the Preakness winner we all luv.

rachel would have smoked zenyattas ass in 09 going a mile and an eighth. Big z is an amazing horse but she would never have made up the ground. nine times out of ten the speed horse wins the match race

Theres only 1 race in 09' Zenyatta would have been able to catch Rachel in. That is the Woodward stakes. After a grueling season, she goes all out in this race and sets blazing fractions. She shook off Da'Tara off, then Past the Point, the Bullsbay like a tagteam in a wrestling match. Finally they took out their greatest weapon, the closer. A deep-closer, that is extremely mature like Macho Again. Yet he could't catch her still. Zenyatta is the only one that could've.

Zenyatta has won 17 Graded stakes races including 13 Grade I events and has defeated 5 Champions of 8 different awards like Gio Ponti, Sealy Hill, Summer Bird, Ginger Punch, Espoir City and many more. Yeah Ventura is a nice filly:) Yeah she did run at Santa Anita, Hollywood Park and Del Mar most of her career.

Rachel would put up a fight then loose the lead like she did in the New Orleans Ladies, La Troienne Stakes and the Personal Ensign Stakes then Zenyatta would win by a couple of lengths. Rachel is and amazing horse she captured hearts of millions but comparing the two I would have to say Zenyatta for all those amazing wins!

@queenluciaa Zardana just ran for the first time since June, so she was probably injured or something. Unless you can come up with an explanation that makes more sense. And going into the PE, Persistently was an allowance filly. Had she won a grade 1 or even any stakes race for that matter, then you could say Rachel got beat by a non-allowance horse. Nothing will change her record going into the PE and I'd be shocked if she ever wins another graded stakes race.

In the personal ensign she ran head and head with life at ten for a mile and shook that bitch off like she was standing still at the qurter pole. she just doesnt want to go that far. Plus word on the backside at churchill was that rachel had a chip taken out of her ankle after the woodward. thats why she didn't run for six months. The public wasn't privy to that knowledge.

I think it is becoming clearer as time passes that Rachel as a 4yr old already has several losses while Zenyatta as a 6yr old has none. Also Rachel was beaten in her 1st race this year by Zardana who has been beaten by Zenyatta. It's safe to say now that Zenyatta is the better horse.

I love both horses but to tell you the truth we will never know who's better even if the did race because the have two totally different running styles. RA - Front Runner/ Zen - Closer. Zenyatta has always been off the pace, Rachel has always been on the pace the only way we will know who is better,{I know this might sound crazy} is if the raced against each other twice. the first one with their normal running style & the second one Swapped RA - Closer/ Zen - Front runner

In a match race, which would be unfair to Zenyatta she would lose to Rachel by 5 or 10 lengths, if the race were in a regular field Rachel by 3 lengths or more, the race would shape up like the Oaks, Mother Goose and Haskell, the Preakness and Woodward were races were Rachel was on the lead for a reason, the 13 post and the older horse boxing her in. After watching Zenyatta run down and blow by the very best male's in the world in the Breeders Cup Classic, some of those male's much faster than Rachael, imo, I don't care if they race in a Winn Dixie parking lot, Zenyatta would do the same thing to Rachael. Rachael was nearly beaten in the Preakness by a deep closer, Mine That Bird, and in the Woodward by a deep closer, Macho Again. Both races, especially the Woodward, she hung on. I think it would depend on the pace of the race. If its a fast pace Zenyatta would probably win and with a slow pace Rachel might win. The thing is older horse usually have an advantage againts 3 year olds. In a match race I would definately take Rachel Alexandra.

To me, I've never really seen what Zenyatta can do, because she's never really had to try hard to win, most of her effort is put in in the last 10-20 seconds of the race. I believe Zenyatta could stay 10 lengths behind RA then make her power move within the last 10-20 seconds and win against RA.

Whoops. I miscalculated. She won her past 7 races by a combined margin of more than 63 lengths!!! I can't find any other filly that has done this... Does anyone know the stats on this?

RA has set 5 new records in 4 graded stakes: Golden Rod (new time record), Martha Washington (new time record), Kentucky Oaks (new winning margin record), Mother Goose (new time record- FASTER than Ruffian) (new winning margin record- previously held by Ruffian). The only horse (girl OR boy) in Preakness history to win from the far outside position. She rarely gets the whip: how fast would she be if asked more?! Still young and keeps getting better, what will she be like when she matures?! WOW!!
