That's a Besson 4 valve compensating BBb bass, the recording bell version made for the american market. I wonder if it's as good as the normal (upright) model?

@thewelford No, the 2XJ series came with a standard 26 inch front bell or upright 24 inch bell

You guys are right. Comparing it to the Conn 24J I have sitting here (which is a 20J with the fourth valve), it's definitely different, and smaller. The second conical part of the buttons on the Conn also come in a ways.

Buddy played Besson and was featured in ads in the 1950's early 60's. He was a much better than is indicated here.

The valve buttons are Besson and the tuba is not wide enough to be a 20J.

Yes, very nice. Actually, I own a Conn 20J tuba which is the same he is playing in this video. A 24J is a 4 valve model.

They are great playing horns using those short action valves & the bigger bore too.
