First off I watched this a few times, and I see no metal band on this birds leg. A band would've solved who the birds owner is.. even the shop that sold him. Since It seems like there's no band it's either a wild bird (it's possible, they live everywhere) or bird that escaped from a breeder prior to being banded, but they get banded extemely young. Since he made no mention of a band and the fact the woman from the sanctuary didn't notice it it's a good chance it's a wild bird.
Dude you did the most logical thing you could... what are the odds of their being a bird sanctuary in the area anyways, great parrots I had one for a long time.
Is it possible that he is someone else's pet and may be he flew out by mistake or something? looks like a guy had owned him... thatz probably the reason the bird had taken a liking towards you and did not allow anyone else to touch him/her. if that is true, i hope the owner watches with video and gets his bird back. both the owner and the bird would be missing each other. Bless their little hearts.
I know its quite funny but these birds live in big families together and its not good for them to put them into another area...
I don't want to be a bitch and tell you that you are stupid and stuff. I think you just didn't knew it so its ok. But the bird wasn't good for the bird at all...
@PlayerHaterBall Would it have been better if I had have grabbed it and threw it away? The bird was very attached to me and wouldn't let anyone else near it except for me which I actually found quite moving. Obviously I had absolutely no idea that this was not good for the bird but nor would most others if they were in the same situation!
you can... put him a cat carrier that will fit under your seat and most airline will i
accept that as a carry on bag. bet he was a lost pet, especially the way he was acting. he CHOSE you, are you going to be able to get him? and keep him? and Quaker parrots(monk parrakeet's) make wonderful companions when given lots of attention and good care. in other words, you make them part of your life. any parrot is like that really. parrots cannot be STUCK in a cage and forgotten.
LOL! Lovely! How fast were you driving when you picked up that hitchhiker? God, I love birds, lol. So sweet that he picked you and only you.
I'm glad he got into a sanctuary. He must have been someone's pet. We have feral flocks of them in NYC and they don't usually come up to humans that way. He must have been missing his people and his security.
Check out the wild quaker parrots of Edgewater NJ. They can be found in pet stores and make wonderful pets. They also have excaped to thewild. We have a colony of them on the palm tree next door
Well I seem to recall getting absolutely swarmed by people all wanting to take photographs, and guess what? They were all American! Guess we're not the only ones easily amused then

It could have been a domesticated Quaker Parrot that got lost.

This had to have been a domestic bird who escaped. Quakers typically bond with one sex, so his actions make sense... a guy probably owned him!
Love the vid!

all those little waxy pin feathers show he didnt have a mate to preen him.
I hope he finally found a home. He is a really tame little guy.
