Finally, Godolphin brings Mastery out of the barn of 10-15-10. Sitting idol since the beginning of April. When Mastery ran an outstanding Dubai World Cup. Sent to Newmarket as Godolphin's 3rd string horse in the G3 Darley Stakes. Mastery still ran a blinder off of a very long lay-off. Beaten only by Tazeez and Steele Tango on the day. They should have had Mastery in some of the races in 2010 that Cavalryman, Cutlass Bay, and Kite Wood have mucked badly. Mastery always run's well. JMO.
Mastery has yet to be seen racing anywhere in Europe thus far in 2010. He hasn't raced since the Dubai World Cup in March. But Kite Wood has raced twice. He won his 2010 debut in France, pretty impressively, beating Kasbah Bliss. He finished further back in the pack, about 6th or 7th in the Gold Cup at Ascot. But I believe the Gold Cup distance may have been a touch beyond Kite Wood's limit. But he looks very strong and fit in 2010. I think he'll be tough at 12 to 16 furlongs in 2010. JMO.
Both Mastery and Kite Wood are both really nice looking colt's, IMO. Both are certainly very tough competitors. I just wonder though, with Godolphin having purchased Cavalryman and Cutlass Bay if it pushes either Kite Wood or Mastery or both further down the line in Godolphins pecking order for Group 1 Turf races?
This was an excellent race. Great stretch dual between Mastery and Kite Wood. Too bad though that Sea The Stars didn't chose to go this route, and take a shot at likely having brought home the English Triple Crown. That would've been just another in a long list of his already phenomenal achievements. IMO.
