Im watching all of the old lynynrd skynyrd interveiws i can find because well i want to feel as if i actually knew them and imagine if they were still here today alive and kicking but ronnie knew his fate he was a smart man from a young age he would say i aint gona live to see 30. he was 29 when he passed, and if someone could give me a good answer for how he knew that it would make my life. If they were still alive the world would be a better place. Lynyrd skynyrd a name everyone should know l

And thank you Tony for all the great interviews. I am a Skynyrd addict to say the least. They have been a huge part of my life for years. When I first heard Freebird, I knew this was my band. They have never written one bad song. And I know them all ; ) songs that is. I cant wait for your project to be done. Dowd' interview will be kick azz I'm sure.
we would love to be able to interview Bob! Check out our interview with Lee Wileson! Leon's son! Very interesting stories of life on the road! More to come!
I met someone claiming to be Bobby in Maryland several years ago. The guy was a bit ..."off" ...but he definitely knew a lot about the band and did in fact look like an older version of the man you see on the album covers. He said he left the band because he went to Nam actually, whether he did or was covering up for the whole "crazy" thing, I'll never know. One thing I'm pretty sure of though...he stole my "smoke" out of my car. I like to think that is WAS him and hope he is doing well now.
@hopethisisthelast must have been that imposter they finally caught....had bushy hair more than Bobs...and a real big mustache.....Bob wouldn't still your smokes....he's one of the nicest guys you will ever meet in your life...
Imet bob burns when he lived at doral aptson austel rd.1981 or 1982. he drove an old chevy .a friend asked if i would like to meet the original drummer for skynyrd.I said sure. we went to his apt. and sure enough he had a gold record on his wall.skynyrd had given bob nothing.. Ibought a skynyrd book and they finaly gave him 9oooo0 so iguess he doesnot live in apt anymore.
@mcgaheefamily I to meet bob at doral apts your right he had old chevy very skinny wife a child and the gold records on the wall but after talking with bob i found out why he left l/s and your right they give him nothing
edyrd1952, I remember you, aka Judo Joe. we had a fist fight behind Venetia School when we were at Lakeshore circa 1966. I permanently lost partial vision in one eye. I remember how badly you beat up Barnett. I remember Ruddy Whaley, Chason, Ferrara, etc. Remember Geoff Spencer? You weren't very likable then, guess I wasn't either. Keith on Capri Rd.
I gotta say it, Bob's drumming is a huge part of why Skynyrd made it. Just listen to the funkiness on those early albums...totally unique, totally catchy., syncopated... Great stuff.
Thanks for your latest responce acknowledging Mr. King's "key" contributions that were initially made to towards LSB's initial success... keep em' coming.
Ed King was like the "backbone" and foundation to Ronnie's band. Great bass player also. Just found out that Tony Beazley plays bass (also). I play the drums on a "fundamental level" and grew up listening to what I consider one of the greatest rock acts of all time... that of course being the Lynyrd Skynyrd Band pre Oct 20, 1977. Thanks Tony for all your input into the history of this great group of individuals. Very interesting/entertaining/informative etc.
Thanks Vic! Yep if Ed had not been in the band with his brilliant guitar work and sound then I probably never would have noticed the band like I did. I did like Skynyrd before I knew who Ed King was but later found out that most of my fav tunes from them had Ed playing guitar on those tracks. Now That Smell and One More Time are exceptions....yes I do like the demo raw versions also before Ed....but the "flavor" that Ed added is just beyond what any other guitar player could ever do.
Ed's a very good bass player but have yet to see him live -thumping away on it... I have a special bass guitar that I have autographs from only people who knew Ronnie....If I could just get to Rickey, Gary and Ed.....I didn't think about this until years later half way through our documentary..but I have all engineers managers some bandmates who have autographed it...I need Leslie to sign it ....its just hard to carry a bass around everywhere for people to sign....
Bob Burns had a NERVOUS BREAKDOWN on the torture tour...Saw the EXCORIST and thought this cat was the devil and threw it out the window over in England I believe..
Man...it's good to hear from Bob. We used to swap jam on each other's kits at Dotties on Memorial Dr. back in the 90's. What a crazy little place that was. He's a good straight-forward guy and I miss those days. I always loved his playing on the old Skynyrd albums too.....Artimus was great but before that....Bob helped give them that unusual dry-space sound that made them famous.
Bob is absolutely right...Ed wrote Incense and Peppermints when he was 15 years old and with The Strawberry Alarm Clock...is an extremely FUNNY guy and soooooo talented!
Thank you Bob, I have read all the books, And I have all the Skynyrd Music ever recorded on CD and Dvd (i HOPE) !! would love to hear more from you!! The Biggest Lynyrd Skynyrd fan In Oregon!
Hi cousin Bob. Miss you and love hearing your stories. Would love for you to come to North Carolina and stay with your cousins from Jax and visit and tell us some stories first hand. Enjoyed having your Mom and sisters visit with me last fall. Love you bunches. Cousin Sherry Burns Wilson
Bob always told me that the days the band was "The One Percent" were the happiest days of his life.Hours and hours of stories from that period. He told me that after they got big it sorta went downhill for him.
Bob Burns without ANY DOUBT is one of the NICEST Famous human beings to ever breathe air.
Bob is bi-polar,that's what he told me, but the stress of the tour really kicked his butt and thats why he had to leave and go to the hospital....
Bob aint no different than anybody else really , after spending a few days with him you understand how he thinks..he is like Einstein ..and he gets really deep and thats why they say he's crazy but if you think about what he said for a day or two then you start to go .....wow that dudes got a brain better than mine..lol ..there you have it.
I read somewhere that Bob watched the Excorist and starting freakin out on the road. They said he threw a black cat through a window. I don't know if that's true or not. I think Bob Burns was an important element to the early Skynyrd sound.
the cat belonged to the owner of some hotel and Bob some how got mad at ronnie and threw it out the 4th story of the hotel soon after that they gave bob a plane ticket home and got mad at the road manager the chase him with hatchet
allen collins tagged me edyrd in case you think im too assuming...peace....remember chad and ruddy whaley, rusty chason, pam nielson, susan mcquillan, edie roundtree, ricky cook...and on and on....jacksonville people were number one...mark sanchez,, dale crisp.. i did about 28 years in masonry mostly a few years merchant marine and thankfully i won every foot race with the law...peace
good to here bob, havent heard his voice since lakeshore. and christy. Allen was one of the nicest people I ever met. AS well as most everybody at Lakeshore and Lee High . Remember Good Shepard, and Val's pool hall .. Ed Harkins...Peace
man i enjoyed this. it has always been a mystery to me about where is bob and what he has been doin. i never hear anybody mention anything about him. does anybody know more about him. just a conerned skynrd fan!!

Just bi-polar stuff...??? Next to schizophrenia, what else is there on this earth to be afraid of?
TheNiceMeanMan 3 years ago
@roysteinar He saw the Exorsit, it opened a part of his brain that was dormant, along
with drugs they were all taking, Bob was a dear friend of Ronnies more like Brothers
actually, it killed Ronnie to fire bob or part ways he never got over it, party inspired "am i loosing"
and firing of allen walden the manager, killed him also, but not as much as bob,
saved bobs life possibly though, maybe he would not have it made the plane
crash, what was a group that big doing in that POS corvair anyway?
