so why was the name hit girl your only problem? i mean kick ass and big daddy aren't the most creative names either but that was the point it was suppost to be funny having these people come up with the lame names
@mexicoolplaya89 Kick ass is a lot better than Hit girl and while Big daddy has been used before, Hit girl just sounds so uninspiring. Like they were too lazy to bother coming up with a proper name I mean the way it sounds why not call her "punch girl" "kick girl" "tackle girl" "slap girl". It just lacks anything and it sounds stupid when you say it, or at least i feel that way about it.
Hit-Girl/Big Daddy are supposed to be bad names, the thing about a little girl killing is the point, a big shocker of a joke, the violent Mark Millar equivalent of the old granny breakdancing gag. Moreso in the graphic novel, the badass Uma Therman character in a 10 year old's body occasionally switches with the 10 year old's own psychology "Could you give me a hug? My Daddy just died", much like the way Brian in Family Guy occasionally reveals his canine instincts, and it's absolute gold.
Nice review, I agree that Kick-Ass is an overly hype movie. And I see nothing special about Hit-Girl too. And this is coming from a huge comic book fan who really like Mark Millar stuff.
I agree with Barazardez that the movie knows what it wants to be. That the movie is funny, gory, dark and romantic doens't mean that the movie doesn't know what it wants to be. It knows exactly what it wants to be, all of those things. I think they mixed it up quit nicely.
The obvious reason why everybody loves Hitgirl so much is because she kicks some major ass, and Kick-Ass is a bit of a wimp, so they say Hitgirl is the star of the movie.
@wtfisditvoorbullshit Which was part of my problem. Hit Girl to me doesn't really seem like someone I would support, she and Big Daddy were more like mercenaries than heroes and to me it made me feel uncomfortable that the movie wanted to make me laugh at the thought of an 11 year old girl who had her childhood turned into a blood bath.
It may be cool to watch but all the flash and cool kills in the world can't change the fact for me that this is still a child doing these things.
@BionicSlime Well, some people indeed have problems with the fact that it's an 11 year old killing all those guys, I'm glad I have no problems with it and enjoyed all of it.
I actually thought it was very cool that it was a young girl doing all the killing, and don't really care if it's an adult male doing the killing or a small female.
@wtfisditvoorbullshit To me its just off putting because people fail to grasp the notion of this being a child. Coupled with the fact that people are treating her like a mini "Wonder woman" role model and I for one think this is not the person I'd want as my role model. Its mostly due to the fact is she's not just killing people, she is brutalizing them and people are too blindly impressed by the stylized killings to realize what's going on. I don't feel she is someone worth supporting at all.
@BionicSlime But why when it's a man it's no problem but when it's a young girl people suddenly have problems with it, that just sounds strange to me. Weather it's Uma Thurman in Kill Bill or this little girl, it's the same thing, they are both killing people. And because this is a little girl some people suddenly realise that killing is wrong, while if it was someone else doing the killing they wouldn't have thought about it, because after all, it's just a movie.
@wtfisditvoorbullshit Because Uma Thurman was a killer who wanted to be in this gig as an ADULT, a child doesn't know any better and intentionally turning a child into a killing machine is sick. No one ever said killing was right, in fact I loved the fact that Kick-ass DID NOT KILL anyone until he was forced at the very end. There's a difference between fighting crime and intentionally murdering people.
Hit girl wasn't fighting crime, she was there JUST to kill and that's the issue.
commenting on what they wanted the movie to be, i think they wanted it to be all of those things, funny, dark, romantic, etc. i don't think there were trying to go for one thing.. but ya i did have some issues with hitgirl, DONT get me wrong i loved every scene she was in but SPOILER:But after that rant big daddy did to his cop friend i did feel guilty and kinda weird that i was rooting for her to do all of this violence.if there is a sequel i would hate to see the long term effects for her
wanted was well good

@BionicSlime well, I always thought it was like Hit Girl as in a little girl who is an Assasin, like a male assasin is called a hit man.

Also, howcome everybody got all mad about one 11 year old girl being violent in this film and yet nobody said a thing about "The Children" in 2008...

Mark Millar is pronounced 'Miller', and the Wanted movie had very little to do with his graphic novel of it.
