Mmmm Clacton on sea 1975 i was 10 and Rachel you was 12 this was the song i played you on that old 8 track and i said i'll alway's remember you .... well i do xx
back in 74, my uncle had this song on his cassette. every time i visited him, i just had to listen to it. (during those times, in comunist poland, cassette player was a rarity. but my uncle worked for the military, so he could afford it)
The best love song sung by ABBA It is one of my favourite songs It has such a soul stirring melody that I don't mind listening to this song again & again I JUST LOVE ABBA !!!
@BondiBeachGirl Thanks Bondi, Agnetha IS something else, so beutiful, like an angel. Never seen one but I think they should lood like her, so pretty. Gracias mi amigo/a.
I LOVE THIS SONG...................want to hear some juicy gossip from their'77 australian tour......go to "i see red split enz nzoz1979" and press "see all" to find the 3 hidden comments.
I like this song, like all songs from ABBA, but it seems to me clearly that here, they sang it in play-back. This is particularly obvious with Agnetha because she does not move her lips in a natural way when she sings in play-back. Look at it carefully... ;-)
Why was this not included on the first "Abba's Greatest Hits" album circa 1976? I always thought it surpassed in quality many of the other songs on that record.
I am nearly 17 and I've been listening to band ABBA for 6 months. She has very melodic and nice songs...majority of them are so much sensitive, but first of all about love and about broken love too(Hasta manana, Knowing me Knowing you, The winner takes it all). I mean it because of sad situation Agnetha and Björn's marriage. It sometimes makes me blue:// However I have to say some songs are so hot and teasing(does your mother know, Honey honey) People in that era were thirsty of these songs.:P
Still think some of their early songs way better than the later songs - this being a prime example. Does not stop me listening to them all over many years now.
Thanks for all the interesting background in the section above. This sounds to me as if it might be considered "Schlager." Is that so? I'm wondering if most Eurovision entries prior to Waterloo were Schlager.
this might be catchy but audiences in Indonesia, esp the 30 yrs old and up, really favored this song. it is still playing till now. i love the lyrics n the tunes.
Thanks - didn't know that. Many overseas record companies did their own thing and released what they thought was best for their charts. There is information about the song and performance beneatth the video. Youtube does not like the word "descr...iption" - don't know why! Had to retype this reply and leave that word out.
Yeah they sure knew how to put together a good song. There's always a good beat, plenty of melody and great singalong lyrics and chorus! The underlying twangy guitar is great here!
Its certainly got a Spanish influence. Their manager wrote the lyrics while on holiday in Las Palmas when he often heard people say "Hasta Manana" (see you tomorrow) on the radio and in the street and thought it fitted the music perfectly. He then dictated the lyrics down the phone back to Sweden! Unfortunately youtube have moved the description to underneath the video instead of at the side.
Hmm....i can't believe i haven't commented or rated this vid yet,...well, ya got me on seconds,....just had to fill my urge for beautiful ABBA Vibes,...sendin' ya 5 stars John boy and thankin' ya for another AWESOME share! = )
Cheers Jose, no rush - there's always 'Hasta Manana' (see you tomorrow) for Abba's timeless songs! Pity they couldn't enter this one at Eurovision as well - they'd have got first & second places as its ideally suited!
Yes that's right, its impossible to forget Abba with all the classic songs they've done. This easy flowing and catchy song was one of their lesser hits being released as an album track and in a few countries only - but its still fantastic!
Cheers Laura - I think that would sound very nice! I could imagine this song being sung in any language it flows so well and the lyrics are so natural! You can see why Stig was such an expert at lyrics, nothing can be improved!
There will be another summer waitting for you Agnetha, there will be lights and all the pain that you still have will dissaprear. You will find a true love. I just hope for because you deserve it. Agnetha, you had made us so happy with your songs and beauty. You are an angel.
Hi Stefanie - yes Abba have always been universally appealing with their catchy songs and homely image, that's why they're still so popular today! I've still got plenty more to do, though each one takes a bit of time as there's plenty of good things to write about - cheers from John!
This is wonderful video. I really love this song and of course, this performance. Agnetha and Anni-Frid looks really beautiful in their cat costumes. :--)
Cheers Laura - you can see exactly why they appeal to all generations with a catchy song and nice performance like this, its impossible not to like it!
Hi Carl - that's right they did not make an official video to go with this song, which was a pity as its one of those easy flowing songs that anyone would like! Yes Agnetha has a wonderful singing voice. She was inspired by her teenage idol Connie Francis who was an American singer popular in the late 50's and early 60's who sang emotional ballads like "Carolina Moon" - I remember her well myself!
Cheers Shay - and there's a nice twangy guitar jumping in throughout to enhance the melody! This is one of those songs that you think has been around forever - because everything in it is just right and it flows along so easily! You can see why Stig was such an expert at lyrics if he can dash these perfect romantic lines off so quickly!
Cheers Edit - yes Agnetha has got the stage to herself for this one with the other three as back-ups and looks great in that cat-dress! I guess she's earned it for finding the right interpretation to this song when they were going to give up on it!
I always thought ABBA sounded so much like Connie Francis--particularly on songs like this pretty one, and on "I DO, I DO, I DO" and "Fernando". It is so interesting that Agnetha thought of Connie when she recorded this.
Yes Connie Francis was Agnetha's biggest idol and teenage inspiration. She loved her emotive style and practiced singing to her records at home. In an interview she said that Connie's recording of Carolina Moon inspired her early solo hits!
Hiya Johnny - yes I think Abba would still have been as big if they did Hasta Manana instead. It was later songs like Dancing Queen and Fernando that launched them to super stardom! However Waterloo resulted in them being regarded as one-hit wonders for over a year until SOS came because they followed up with the weaker So Long. If they had done Hasta Manana at Eurovision they would then have the strong Waterloo to follow up with! Hasta Manana was a big hit in USA for The Boone Sisters in 1977!
@FBCDJ1620am Yes, they would have been just as big if this had been chosen as the Eurovision entry. In my opinion, this is the better song with a beautiful melody. I'm surprised they chose Waterloo ahead of this.
Cheers Max, yes this is the perfect song for Agnetha to sing solo with her emotional style and she did the interpretation herself - including her trademark melodramatic spoken part! Hasta Manana till the next one!
