You can plainly see the implications of this truth... We must be FORCED by an all-powerful government to execute that which Christ instructed- all the social programs the Church no longer nurtures... We would rather buy cheap crap than pay a man a fair price for his goods... Greed is actually pondered to be good, rather than a voracious sin... Look up the root of the word "autism", you will see RJ uses it correctly. Self-centered is simply self-worship, another form of idolatry.
What this man is talking about is creating an american fascist theocracy. We know from history what derives from religious theocracies ...
That is what caused the dark ages. Its not just dying for what you believe, and being persecuted for what you believe, but if he had his way the the theocratic dictators would be persecuting and killing others who did not agree with their beliefs.
Just like Calvin helped in having Michael Servetus, arrested and then tortured and then burned alive.
Being a Calvinist, he neglects to explain that Calvinism teaches that God created the vast majority of humans who will ever live to ultimately damn them to eternal torture for his own Glory.
This is a tragic and insulting misuse of the word autism. And Shelley and Emerson selfish? What? Rushdoony exhibits profound ignorance on so many levels. That there is an egoism problem in the West is hardly debatable, but this clip is just so much sanctimonious drivel.
@waveformula He is simply trying to keep people away from the knowledge of linguistics. Notice his careful rhetorical talk and rhythm. He is a poet and rhetorician. He does not believe what he speaks - but speaks it anyway for his own selfishness.
@parallelperspectives your definition of autism is flawed. My daughter is autistic, and she is hyper-self-absorbed. Everything she does is because she cannot cope & wants to stay in her own little world. She engages in self-stimulation (stimming), repetitive behaviors which releases endorphines (runner's high hormone) - it's a coping mechanism. She cannot process information properly, her brain does not work properly. It's more like bad programming and error messages & we live with it every day.
a little information for the Dr. Rushdoony. Where I agree with him that the west does focus too much on the individual, I highly disagree with him that autism is an obsession with self. It is far far from that. Autism is almost EGO-LESS, more like Zen. Autism is complete awareness in the world around, not with itself.
An autistic society? Fuck you! If your trying to say its a narcissistic society go ahead I would agree. But if your using autistic as a synonym for egotistical then you can blow it out your ass.
I first read Dr. Rushdoony back in 1987 via Chalcedon. I would strongly suggest that if you want to support a group, which advocates God's Kingdom then send them your financial support. Thanks for posting this video.
alby18alby - I disagree partially with your assertion - autism is a type of mind blindness where (depending on it's severity) the autistic person cannot process or take in certain information. Rushdoony was not minimalizing auties (my daughter is autistic) but trying to give an analogy. plain and simple.
actually autism is OVER processing, a direct stream of information. They are beyond capable of receiving infinite sensual information all at once, and that is what leads to the problems.
Autism is not the core of egocentrism, it's quite the opposite! One just needs an open mind (free from pre-judgement) and learn about their way of being and their extraordinary communication skills. Keep preaching if it suits you but learn and try to understand before to place your moral judgement on a whole group of wonderful human beings!
People could do worse than go to the Chalcedon website and buy Rushdoony's lecture on mp3, "Permanence and Change in Social Systems", delivered at RTS in 1976 when he was at his peak. This was when Greg was a lecturer there, and guys like Jim Jordan were in the class. It is truly phenomenal.
Praise God that you found Rushdoony! Now go check out his book on Romans and Galatians - it is outstanding along with all of his other work like Revolt against maturity.

Certainly this speech isn't dripping with irony as this man stands before people and tells them to obey him... What a fucking fraud.

For the another definition of spiritual autism check out William Stillman, who has a really interesting view on spiritual evolution
