HI this it´s awesome... I love this kind of aparells homemade, I like to make somthing similar whit Arduino, but now I just starting to programming it...
@hanrinch It would be great if you could, but modern RAM is much too complex for a system this old. It uses a 512K static RAM chip. Laughably small now, but massive by 1970s standards!
i was about to glue the module slot on the circuit board but i am almost forgotten that modern ram require memory controller in either northbrige or inside the processor like a64 and nehalem i7. however is it possible i can soldier the northbridge(850) on the circuit board with pcie controller as well? plus it is possible to make a home made northbridge + southbridge(i have ich5) and even processor too?
Hi Matt, very good work! Now you have a very deep and broad knowledge about operating systems and computer architecture. How much time do you think you spent building your device? Congratulations!
I noticed on your web site that you're thinking of a TMS9918 for video at a point. I'd recommend the Yamaha V9938 or V9958. Both are backwards compatible with the 9918, but resolve some of the 9918's bugs and give added capability.
Hey, is the first links schematic for the whole thing or just the input and output devices? I would like a full schematic to build one WHEN I really get good at electronics since my dad was around in the 8-bit times
@kennytheamazing SD cards use a serial interface (SPI). So I'd need additional hardware (a peripheral interface adapter) and I'd have to bit-bang the port in software. Data transfers would be about 20 times slower, maybe more.
the first 2 minutes were complete nerd talk i couldn't understand. i dont know why i stayed to watch the whole thing..... but i did..... and damn, i gotta say, u gotta go to vegas with that luck.
But will it run Crysis?

You should copyright your custom ROM which is running the OS/DOS for this.

This is amazing, reminds me of Wargames.. And are the OS and the program boot loader written directly on the ROM of the 6809 or seperate chip?

im in my first term in computer engineering and were currently learning assembler for the m68k. Is it the same as the cpu youre using?
its very interesting stuff. Did you code the os as well?
Squig8 1 year ago
@Squig8 The 68k is much different. The 6809 is kind of like a 6502 with more registers and instructions.

Why did you choose CF card? Is it easier to interface? They're pretty outdated.. SD is the way to go :)
