  • But will it run Crysis?

  • That is cool!

  • what language do you use?

  • HI this it´s awesome... I love this kind of aparells homemade, I like to make somthing similar whit Arduino, but now I just starting to programming it...

Thanks for this awesome monster :)

    Kinds Regards, from Spain

  • me 100 like 0 disl!ke kaacking!

  • That is awesome :)

  • Could you run Dunfield CUBIX on it?

  • would it be possible to design a microprocessor from scratch?

  • would it be possible to design the processor?

  • You're either lucky or that thing loves you. Awesome video, awesome computer.

  • Wow! You don't see a 6809 all days!! :)

  • just like the termanail i want.

  • Did u uploaded this video with that computer :O ?

    Good gob man :D

  • NEAT

  • Need some Ps2 Parts :P

  • very cool... (not sarcasm)

  • I'm sorry Dave, but I can't do that.

  • I bet this thing gets you a lot of girls

  • neat

  • awesome

  • ok... that would i say its an DOS computer you made. wow.

  • @thecrazyguy129 are you being sarcastic?

  • You should copyright your custom ROM which is running the OS/DOS for this.

  • Will you be selling copies of this as a kit?

  • is it possible to insert desktop ram module on the circuit board? i have one left over rambus dram with an pcie slot (got it from old mb)

  • @hanrinch It would be great if you could, but modern RAM is much too complex for a system this old. It uses a 512K static RAM chip. Laughably small now, but massive by 1970s standards!

  • i was about to glue the module slot on the circuit board but i am almost forgotten that modern ram require memory controller in either northbrige or inside the processor like a64 and nehalem i7. however is it possible i can soldier the northbridge(850) on the circuit board with pcie controller as well? plus it is possible to make a home made northbridge + southbridge(i have ich5) and even processor too?

  • turn on the display, fire up the processor, activate the flux capacitor.... nice work man.

  • You are my hero! Congrats.

  • Hi Matt, very good work! Now you have a very deep and broad knowledge about operating systems and computer architecture. How much time do you think you spent building your device? Congratulations!

  • hello i am kaming my own 4 bit computer

  • That must feel good to have done so much work from scratch and then watch it play a game.

  • YOU MADE IT YOURSELF, OH MY GOD

  • This is amazing, reminds me of Wargames.. And are the OS and the program boot loader written directly on the ROM of the 6809 or seperate chip?

  • This is awesome.

  • Excellent choice of processor! My first computer was a TRS Coco, and I remember how hard the 6809 rocked.

  • Hay that is a cool computer um can you send me the schematic for it

if you can that would be awesome and you shod make more you cold sell them I wold bye one

  • @geoman298 Schematics will probably be ready by mid-2011, I still have a bit of work to do.

  • Do any errors ever occur?

  • That's damn cool!

  • im in my first term in computer engineering and were currently learning assembler for the m68k. Is it the same as the cpu youre using?

its very interesting stuff. Did you code the os as well?

  • @Squig8 The 68k is much different. The 6809 is kind of like a 6502 with more registers and instructions.

  • @74hc595

Alright, model name was somewhat similar. thanks for the reply :)

  • Your Blackjack is rigged! :P

  • Wow, very impressive!

  • What programming language did you use to program this. All i know is cmd.

  • @BlakeOBrien1 Assembly language. (And before I had a good assembler setup, I wrote machine code...)

  • lol 6809. Thats from the 80s

  • I noticed on your web site that you're thinking of a TMS9918 for video at a point. I'd recommend the Yamaha V9938 or V9958. Both are backwards compatible with the 9918, but resolve some of the 9918's bugs and give added capability.

  • When I get going on this, I plan to make one that can support OS-9 But this is is a few years to come when I learn a little more about electronics.

  • Hey, is the first links schematic for the whole thing or just the input and output devices? I would like a full schematic to build one WHEN I really get good at electronics since my dad was around in the 8-bit times

  • Freaking awesome man. I have been wanting to do something similar. Any tips, book recommendations etc.

  • What level of knowledge does one need to do this? Electrical Engineering? Anyone wanna give me the low down. I'm interested in this stuff. A lot.

  • Why did you choose CF card? Is it easier to interface? They're pretty outdated.. SD is the way to go :)

  • @kennytheamazing SD cards use a serial interface (SPI). So I'd need additional hardware (a peripheral interface adapter) and I'd have to bit-bang the port in software. Data transfers would be about 20 times slower, maybe more.

  • the first 2 minutes were complete nerd talk i couldn't understand. i dont know why i stayed to watch the whole thing..... but i did..... and damn, i gotta say, u gotta go to vegas with that luck.

  • wtf is that?

  • wow where did you learn to do this?

  • Well, of all the homebrew computer projects on youtube, I think yours is the most impressive.

  • impressive stuff

  • Also, the blue on black reminds me of wargames!

  • I sent this into hackaday for you! :D

  • @bootnecklad Thanks! I was a bit surprised when I woke and saw it was posted already!

The blue on black looks even better in person, but I can't figure out how to get a good shot with my camera.

  • Hey I've been following your progress. I just want to say awesome work on the computer! Also congrats on the Hackaday article!

  • Glad to see your progress on this!

  • This is awesome!

  • very very cool

  • Nice blackjack game man, good job!!!
