It does my head in when people say The Edge can't play guitar, for a start they could simply watch this video and see that The Edge can play like a demon, and also he's been playing for over 30 years, I'm sure he's learnt how to play guitar in that time! Great video :)
They cut out what Bono sings at the end. I guess they didn't want to pay the rights for it, but when this first aired live on Showtime back in 97, which I recorded at the time, Bono sings the West Side Story bit, "La la la America, I want to live in America ..."
@saschaimweb Agreed. I have held that viewpoint since day one. Pop is an absolute gem. So dark and theme driven. It is the perfect completion of the Acthung/Zooropa/Pop trilogy. I still think that Gone is one of the best songs that they have ever written. Mofo... one of the most personal. If only they could gather the balls to return to that territory.
@portraitofjimmy Maybe... I think if he was using auto tune he'd use it much more extensively as part of the material. But during that period when they did mess with a lot of electronic sounds, why would this be so strange or terrible?
the best u2 concert in my opinion, I have all the dvds and there's no such passion and energy like the one in mexico city, I can never get enough, I have watched like a hundred times at least..
They muted the "America" snippet (from West Side Story) for the DVD?! That made this version so cool... You can hear it very quietly from 5:10 - "la la la la la America".
@Erabot no the dvd version is the same as this... however the America snippet you're talking about was played in several concerts during Electric Co, not during Bullet The Blue Sky... and you're right they cut America out along with "Send in the Clowns" from both the Electric Co live performances (the Red Rocks version (video) and the Loreley one (audio)) present in Under a Blood Red Sky album due to copyright issues
The band are often criticised for the Popmart period, but I actually preferred it all to Zoo TV (as great as that was). The album is better than many sometimes give it credit for, and live I thought their playing improved, the set was fantastic, and this was maybe their finest interpretation of 'Bullet'. The rhythm here is funkier than before or since, and Edge's guitar is fantastic. This song was their best live song for ten years, but since then I think they've sounded a bit bored with it.
i was quite surprised when i saw edge's gold-top les paul the first time i saw this video. it makes perfect sense now. this song is a totally different beast than the times they have played it at slane castle and chicago
Fantastica questa versione Funky di Bullet the Blue Sky. The Edge Straordinario da 2:31 a 3:20 . Silent-Voice di Bono da 3:32 a 4:00. Beh in generale : Great U2 song !!!
me encanta bono porque a parte de ser un excelente cantante es todo un showman , no es el tipico rockero que se para en frente de su publico y solo canta , bono sabe manejar bien a su publico, algo asi como fredy mercury que sabe moverse en el escenario.
they were faced with the problem of following up the best album and tour of the 90s. Gotta give them credit for making an effort to not do the same old thing......Even Monet didnt paint a masterpiece every time he picked up a brush.
Regardless of what Bono's doing here I actually think that they did this song better on the Popmart tour than on any other, it sounds cool and funky and Edge's guitar transcends any rock moment since.
Whats drugs ate in México???? Viva México Cabrones!

Great guitar solo from the Edge. Like the twist they put on this version.

the whole popmart thing is highly underrated - also the album: compared to nloth, pop is a creative explosion!

sounds like bono's using auto-tune on his vocals. 0:51 you can hear it wobble in tune.
what a prick!

I don't mind the mic, Mick Jagger has been using one lately, it's the umbrella that gets me.
