Rosemary Kennedy was, to use the terminology of the time, mentally retarded. Rose Kennedy used that exact term in her autobiography to describe her daughters condition. Ever heard of the Special Olympics? Why do you think the Kennedy's started an event for mentally challenged individuals? Because their lives had been touched by such a person- Rosemary.

Yes, totally agree. This whole series is incredible- but that comment from Mrs. Kennedy is the most touching. Even the music in the background during those scenes with Jack on the yacht right before is so very appropriate for the mood.

If you'd read some history on the family Rose did everything possible to help her mentally challenged daughter. It was her husband Joe Kennedy, who during a time when Rose was away from home, who had a lobotomy performed on Rosemary that left her so deblitated she needed roung the clock care. It was believed this was done without Rose's knowledge and she was devastated by the results. Educate yourself.
