Amazing voice- so pure here. According to Wikipedia, her big break came when when she sang at the Lion Club, a gay New York Club. She changed her name to Barbra when she was performing there. This is her first TV performance- her old brother, Sheldon, paid for this kinescope and later it was digitized-and now we have it here for all. Thanks for the upload! I was 11 years old and saw Funny Girl on Broadway. Unforgettable, Show stopping, Like nothing heard before (or since really!)

I'm reading Barbra's biography now and just read about her first TV appearance on Jack Paar. She still struggled for a while after that show, and actually was homeless. She bought a cot and carried it around so she'd always be able to sleep in her own bed. It's incredible being able to find these clips on You Tube to go along with reading about them. Just great!
