Very nice, when your being compared to Thile your in the smallest percentile of mandolin players in the world. hope your still making music, getting better. these jokers criticizing your playing are the listeners, which eventually will be the people you must please, As far as playing your are respected, even if it's not perfect.
All i can see is an amazing u and coming musician. Maybe even another Thile. The fact he can play this piece at all, fast or slow at his age shows undeniable talent. People need to understand that youth is about passion and expression often through speed. Everyone said Goulds 55 Goldberg variations were to fast.....I think I can rest my case.
I think he's had too much bluegrass training. Too fast, as well. Less speed and more emotion. Good effort though. Definitely not an easy piece to play.
to all the people nitpicking the errors... you're not necessarily wrong, but this guy's fifteen (or was when this was recorded). Clarity in you practice doesn't always translate into performance accuracy, especially if you haven't been on stage much yet.
Anyone who has J.S. Bach's "Sonatas and Partitas for violin" committed to memory will hear all the wrong notes in this performance, and there are many. Have respect for the great master and learn to execute the passages accurately!!! Don't mess with J.S.!!!!
Maybe a little harsh, but I do agree, to a degree. Classical music should be played with clarity, and part of what makes Bach so enjoyable is the accuracy of the passages... maybe slow down a little bit next time... just a suggestion.

Boy's really good , but it's well to remember that virtuosity is not in speed , but in the interpretation of each note...keep it up , boy !
