  • made my day... this is what i love about youtube on a cold sunday evening, discovering a little gem like this.

For a time, marillion were THE BEST live band about, there were bigger, but no better. so glad to see them back, if only for a one off

  • marillion never had to leave, no comparison, fish was always the best

  • Bollocks, Marillion (and Fish), have still got one good album in them.

  • all the people there that day are a very very lucky bunch to have seen them back together again

and yea Fish does indeed look like he's having a lot of fun!

  • different??le nom marillion est toujours la mais le style non dommage malgres tout j'aime h aussi

  • I can`t believe it. Seeing them together again fills me with great memories and emotion. This is fantastic...!

  • Hogarth killed the real Marillion....

So i guess while they were having fun in this gig Hogarth went to wash FISH car

  • gracias por este momento

  • Great to see the original line up together again. I'd definately pay money to go see them in their original form again

  • OMFG... I've got tears in my eyes... Thank you so much for posting.

  • wow, I just love this.

  • Wow!!! I love both Marillion eras, but my favorite is the first 4 albums with Fish. This video actually made me cry!!!!

  • Fawk, they still got it...

The beer belly can't hurt the baldie's vocal prowess!

  • @Alejoint73 dont know if u noticed but hes always bin a wee bit bald and a wee bit podgy round the middle but that nae detracted from the voice . Ach Fish hae the grandest voice ever .

  • fish unica data italiana 2009 a settmbre a veruno (NO) per informazioni visitare il sito della ver1 musica

  • I enjoy current Marillion. I enjoy Fish era Marillion. I would love to hear what the guys would do with Fish now.

There are some examples of bands working successfully with two vocalists.

  • Yes and what a wonderful year it is. You probably are a big fan of the war in Iraq and miss George Bush. If you prefer Hogarth to Fish, you have said enough, we all know who and what you are.

  • I agree is not good to make comparisions, I only like Fish style with Marillion original sound get together again.

  • Oh my God!! Fish and Marillion were the sound of my teens, they were my band when everyone else was into rubbish. Nice to see them back together for one last time, saw them in concert on the Fugazi tour and they were excellent.

  • Wow. Thanks for sharing this - I was there in the front row on the night - It was amazing them and it's still amazing.:-)

  • outstanding.Marillion the way they were meant to be.

  • Excellent- my mate Martin told me this was on there- its the only Marillion line-up for me! saw them twice, he (FUSH!) was awesome- even I had hair then!

  • el millor grup del mòn amb diferencia...

  • Wow, this took me back to when I was a young lad, there's no doubt in my mind that this was the real Marillion, no offence to fans of the new line up, but these guys were the real deal. Awesome vid.

  • yeah, I am with douglasdg. twovery different singers with different styles. Fish solo is fantastic. Fish Marillion is fantastic. Marillion with Hogarth is fantastic. please don't be such haters against hogarth, it is the way they are now and the new album, happiness is the road, FANTASTIC.

  • Guys! Stop comparing Fish and Hogarth! We are talking about two very different styles of voice and music.

  • Marillion with Hogarth is not the real Marillion. Sorry about that, no hate here, but this is just the way it is. It's the same as Queen without Freddie&Deacon, it will never be ther real Queen no matter what or how many Paul Rodgers they get in there...

  • THIS IS WHAT WE ALL WANTED FOR SO LONG!

Nevertheless Fish solo is still better than Marillion with this horrible singer, fortunately I forgot his name!

    FISH rules!

    Take care, stay alive;-)

  • Being from the States, I do not get this sort of great event. We have "rap" and you can't spell Crap without rap...

    Save us, where's the rock?

  • Congratulations, dude.

This is the real Marillion! uuuuuuha

  • there as a connection with celebration i always thought the same deathdice69

but it nice to see them back in this video

    ciao gianluca

  • i always felt they 'stole' this from PFM's Celebration.Listen to Photos Of Ghosts on Manticore and you'll hear a very heavy influence on the keyboards for the first two Marillion albums. And yep I agree get back together bollox to the Hogarth era!

  • As an old school Marillion fan, this is just great to see. You had me from "Steven Rothery on guitar..."

  • watch?v=DKKGzntUc0w see this:)

  • i would sell my grandma if they do one last tour together...

  • can't believe this song is already over 25 yrs old and still sounds great to me.

  • Best version of this classic reunion. Not bothered about a full reunion, Fish last month on tour was good enough!

  • Really thank you for posting this, Great Document, a real jewel

    LONG LIVE MARILLION!

  • Why not have a tour with Fish as front man.Take in some of the festivals on the way round in the summer with it. It would be immensly popular(and lucrative). Then they could go back to their respective careers.

Marillion with Fish would pack out most of the big indoor arenas in the UK.I saw Fish last week he was great but the loudest cheers were for the old Marillion stuff.Depends on how much they could do with the money.

  • Awsome! Got shivers down my spine watching this.

How much did Fish look like he enjoyed it! Brought back a lot of good memories.

  • I always saw marillion with fish and when he

  • Great Video, I saw Marillion with Fish many times and Marillion with H many times, Fish was great, but Hogarth is the better singer, never a night where he has been off key, Fish had some really dodgy performances. And he hasnt the vocal range Hogarth has. Anybody who says Hogarth doesnt throw himself into a song didnt seem him perform Brave live in '91. I love them both but face it Hogarth has been the frontman of Marillion for 20 years, anyone who says he's crap isnt a Marillion fan.

  • Yes I agree with you. but the lyrics and song content has all been lost since fish left.

fish is a poet. I saw them when they first came to America.they have written some great stuff but nothing comes close to the the brief fish era.I do feel H is a better singer live. They had a magic about them with fish.

the same way steve walsh of kansas had with kerry livgren and the rest of the original lineup.

  • Up to this day i didn't know, that there was an although brief reunion of the band with fish! Maybe there's still hope for a whole reunion tour!!!! :-)) Thanks for posting this epic moment!!!!!!!

  • Real to Real Tour 1984/5 my favourite - live preview of Misplaced Childhood with the really good version of Kayleigh !

  • cool! but i thinks it s very fast!

  • Great!!! I attended 3 marillion shows (1992, 1994, 2004) and 2 of fish (2001 & 2006) all of the were great, but see them reunited is fantastic!!!

  • Kocham Marillion! I love Marillion. Ihave listened them since "Misplaced Childhood" album, grieved Fish'es departure, and came in love again with their "Brave" masterpiece. Thank you for posting this video!

  • That's cool. Thanks for posting it. I never got to see Marillion with Fish and it's kind of sad that there seems to be no video footage available from the old days. I do very much like Marillion with Steve Hogarth but this it touching and charming. Thanks again.

  • From France... This is the only way for Marillion : With Mister Fish.

  • Yes, I am following you!

I follow you guys since 1982.

I'd have given my right leg away to be there that day :)

  • Sorry for the second posting (am new to YouTube) ... I am really looking for a live transmission of "Lavender" (if I remember correctly - the thing is they played a whole gig an had to time the set to fit transmission) that went out live from the Marquee on OGW Test ... Can anyone help ?

I will post some stuff from Fish at the Loreley last year ASAP ... I think I have some footage ...

    Cheers

    Keith

  • I can't believe this !!!!

Amazing - considering I am "A Marquee Veteran" (Xmas Gigs 82 T-shirt still exists and is worn often !!!) As for them talking - they have been for a loooong time ! When Fish was at the Loreley last year he called up the guys and they talked about 85 !!

Xmas Gigs 83 Aylesbury was still the best !!!!!!!

    Regards

    Keith

  • I remember buying 12" of MSH when it came out and when the guys stil played small town halls up here. Tears to my eyes? CRYING BUCKETS !!! FANTASTIC

  • good to see they are atleast talking again...

    Good one off...

  • nice but... it's almost 20 years that I get real emotions with Hogarth!!! no thanks, I keep H :-D

  • ok man, but if you're talking about hearing emotions, I suggest turning off the lights and go all the way with Misplaced Childhood, then "Chelsea Monday" and finishing with "Sugar Mice" (maybe "Cinderella

    Search")... that's about emotions!!!!

  • ok man... I like MC... but I prefer Marbles :-p

  • DAMN RIGHT!! Such classics that display emotions, but no Hogarth fan understands that. They are listening to a different band IMO, this IS Marillion and how IT should be.

  • hmm, no.. :) "they" are listening to marillon (you know, todays marillion IS the marillion and how it IS)... and fish-fanatics listen to fish who used to be in marillion. very simple :)

not throwing axes here, i'm a fan of ALL material marillion done. but since i love the BAND i weight a bit over to the new h-era. you know, they've done over 10 albums since fish left :)

personally i think fish has done LOTS of superb solo albums, not to forget sunsets on empire, vigil and suits. GREAT stuff!

  • HAAAA NOOO defintely wrong. Get back a bit and realise NO ONE can fill the shoes of Fish. Yes they have done quite a few albums since fish left and are crap. I bought a Hogarth cd a while ago and what complete turd it was, no feeling, no reasoning, no balls or thought. Hogarth would be a no-body if Marillion didnt pick him up.

  • What a frontman!! Such enthusiasm and charisma.Don't get me wrong,I love tracks like "Interior Lulu" etc,and hogarth can sing, but, wouldn't you rather have what we've witnessed here.Real passion, and energy.Having a frontman who's going for it and jigging about has got to be better, especially as Marillions' last album was such a passionless lightweight gloppy forgettable nothing. Not that fish does much better these days.Get 'em back together again.,It makes sense and you have witnessed that fact!

  • Excellent the big man and the guys back on stage together. Awesome, don't worry H we still love you xx

  • AYLESBURY ! YYYEEEAAHHH ! lol xxxxx

  • AND GROWN MEN WEPT

  • very very awful , what´s happen with the old singer Fish ??

    please leave the stage.

  • I almost died.

  • THAT WAS AMAZING!! So great to see and hear after all these years. Love the earlier H stuff, but the Fish era remains true Marillion to me. Wish they'd do this some more. Thanks for posting!!

  • After 19 years... they did it!!! So amazing, so great...., so MARILLION. So I can keep on believe, that in one day.... I´ll see them LIVE! But for now... the legend lives, thank you all!!!

    AKI

  • Holy Mackeral!

    That was GREAT!

  • Hairs sprung up on the back of my neck! WOW! I've see Marillion live with both Fish and H, H is great and a first class choice when the big man moved on BUT, Fish & the 4 musicians WERE Marillion!! AWESOME!! wish they'd go for it again! Many thanks for the video!!

  • Maybe someone should set up a wesite dedicated to Fish coming back for a tour with the 4 musicians of Marillion?

  • As Fish himself says, H does a great job with the band. They went down seperate paths 19 years ago, not just physically and musically Lets just accept it, each is as great at each other. They moved on, and this great, one off event, was great for everyone.. great to see them perform together for everyone who was an "original" marillion fan. Give both of them great credit for doing great respective jobs (I am a Fish fan, and not a great fan of H!)

  • Marillion without Fish is like Jethro Tull without Ian Anderson or Thin Lizzy without Phil Lynott. The musicians are great but his personality is so strong that he is the band. I saw Marillion with Hogarth once and it was a great show but to me it wasn't Marillion. Thanks for this great video!

  • I admit to a wee tear...Marillion are class, there's not a band out there that come close and H is brilliant, the man for the job. I still think Fish is the most imposing frontman ever, if you've ever made eye contact with him during a gig, then you'll know that he's living the lyric. H is like that too...If anyone reading this isn't a fan let me tell you, if your favourite vocalist isn't putting himself through the emotional wringer when they open their mouth, you're being ripped off!

  • no words left to say...I'm stunned

  • Fish was Marillion and all that it encompassed during the time he was with them. I saw them many times and they were one of my all time favourite bands when he was with them. They were a fantastic live band and album band. To see them headlining the Milton Keyes Bowl playing the entire Misplaced Childhood was a magical moment. Marillion should have adopted a different name when Fish left.

  • I'm a fan and prefer the H's marillion, but still this is very touching... I wish some peter buddy could do the same with some old friends...

  • I never noticed the extreme height difference between Fish and everyone else. He's a giant!!!

  • At least H can sing, which is more that can be said for Fish at the moment...

  • asswipe!

  • It is very easy to just sing the words.

But if your heart is not in it,is it really singing.Yhat being said,Fish is hands down a better singer.

  • thank god for the internet!!!! and YOU TUBE!!!!

thank-you for sharing this - saved it especially for my hubby (40 something-but not quite bald!!!)

amazing to witness, wish we could have been there

    xxxx

  • H IS BETTER !

  • Maybe H is a better singer but Marillion with Fish were magical. I saw them over 60 times going right back to the beginning of 1982 and it was a great ride - Marillion are a fine band now but they do not compare to the days with their great frontman.

  • You could not be more wrong, but thats my opinion and you wont change that. Ive seen them 5 times with H and he is a captivating performer. Marbles is there career masterpiece.

  • If you never saw them with Fish then you are not in a position to have an informed opinion anyway. I have seen them 30-40 times with Hogarth as well so my view is well balanced. Brave is a masterpiece but other than that they are not the band they were with Fish. Still music is all about opnions ins't it :)

  • What if i just all around prefer Hogarth ? Can i please just think he's better then Fish and not be told he isnt just once. I really like Fish, i even have two of his solo albums, "Raingods with Zippos" and "Empires of the sun" and they are great records but as a singer and frontman with 15 years experiance including opening for such acts as Joan Jett, Yngwie Malmsteen, Warrent, Skid Row and Paul Stanley, not to mention, Staind opened for my band in 95, i personally like Hogarth better.

  • I have no words, just tears... thank you so much for sharing this.

  • Awesome! The crowd must have known this was coming. I sure didn't. Sooo amazing to be able to see and experience this :D

  • gracias por ver un sueño

  • 'Once upon a time, a long, long time ago............and they all lived happily ever after.' A fairytale that came true, just wish that the middle of the story wasn't so bloody long. Thank you one and all. Peace - out

  • 19 years of what could have been...many dreams came true in Aylesbury...including mine

  • what can i say? just thre words: I HATE YOU!!! but i also love you for having posted this vid. I'm still crying for that. nothing else matters. fish is in a better shape than a couple of years ago. and little pete always seems a baby in front of the giant. what a wonderful emotion. thank you again

  • Classic thanks for posting

  • Thank you!

  • Fantastic!!!! As an American who loves Fish my year has been made. I would sell my children to see Fish live but since most Americans have terrible taste in music Fish will never tour here again.

  • as has been said in other posts.....

    AWESOME!!

it's the equivilant of pink floyd at live8, to me anyway!!

    ........the end?

  • Great, i hope it is not the last gig they do together.

  • Oh boy - that brings back memories!

I have a signed copy of market square hereos - which I got when I lined up in a Virigin store in London, hours before seeing them play in Hammersmith on the last night of their first major tour. We missed the last train home, and my dad had to come and get us! I was 15 at the time. Must have been 1982 or 1983...

  • Thanks for sharing that!

  • this is UN-FREAKIN-BELIEVABLE

    amazing...there IS a God

  • What a great day out, so good to see Fish and the boys back on stage together. brought back many happy memories of the 80's. good on you guys!

  • I have nothing to say except..........GLORIOUS

  • If they mantain this (reunion)lifestyle,we wont reach 30 or 40 or 50!

  • Thank you for adding!

  • OMFG !!!!!!!! O.o

  • IMFG !!!!!!!! O.o

  • Awesome!

  • so sad i missed this but i hope if there are still tickets left to see fish at the end of next month . fish is looking and sounding good . i am glad that what ever differences the band had in the past can now be left there .

  • Oh what a show!!!

Thanks for getting this up, I started to film MSH but decided to go mental instead!

  • I can hear Mark Kelly, but I can't see him.

  • Very nice -- even if just for one song at one gig -- to see them all together, having fun with it.

  • I had tears in my eyes yesterday and there rolling down my cheeks again now. I maybe 40 but I ain't balding !!

I was there and I still cant believe it happened

  • Lads and lasses, this is a classic moment of history! The classic line-up playing their debut single in Aylesbury market square - perfect.

Had to laugh tho, Rothers playing The Other Half intro before the start!

  • Been a fan since august 1986, but I never saw Marillion with Fish live.

I was at the gig last night, so now I can be a bit more relaxed and die even more happier than I already was ;-)

  • Awesome! I wish I had been there...took me back to the 80's...could have cried! C'mon lads, do a one off tour, greatest hits...it would make a fortune!

    Jason kenny

  • Holy cow. I have no words for this. Have awesome do they still sound or what?!??! Seems like not a day has gone by since I last saw them together in the 80's. I pray this isn't a one time thing and that we get to see this sometime in the States. Rock on boys!

  • There is little that can be said about that.

Unbelievable.............so there they were once more.

  • Gutted I was not there. But good to see them back together. Hopefully it will not be a one off.

  • Well, that was cool !! Thanks for posting it. I was hoping this would happen at the Marillion convention a few years ago but obviously it didn't. The closest think to it was when the guy from Forgotten Sons sang with them and brought the house down. I felt bad for Hoggie after that one.

  • It was truly a great day! I am hoarse from singing and screaming! Brilliant, thanks for posting so quickly!!!

  • Thanks so much for uploading this, and so quickly!

The video quality is great - not shakey at all, especially compared to most concert footage up here, and you had one heck of a view!

I wonder if anyone took any videos of the crowd - the "sea of weeping 40 year old men" all pogo-ing must have been quite something to behold.

I wish I had been able to get there in time!

It's so great to see them on such good terms and clearly enjoying the occasion. Thanks again (o:

  • hahaha, balding, divorced with kids, 40something men weeping and bouncing to old Marillion with Fish.... sounds like my kind of crowd!

  • I never thought it would happen :) So good to see the spirit and joy of the occasion. Thank you!
