The math, although an estimate, is correct, but you're still wrong. The more you weigh, the more calories you have to eat to maintain that weight. Thusly, as you gain weight, you'll find a balance in eating. People gain weight as they age because they are less active and still eat the same.
@Tarion666 Right... 100 extra a day. However, in the example he gives, you're starting at say 2000 calories a day and as you gain weight, you're ending up eating 2500, 3000, 3500 calories a day because "100 extra" goes up from a base as you gain weight. Most people find a balance where they stop eating 100 extra per day because they just can't eat that much.
Yes, I agree 100% I would LOVE to see everybodies' pictures! Plus most people lie about what they eat and what they do. Even my friends don't have clear perspectives on their eating and exercise.
WOW. alot of morons on here. I think the point steve is getting at is how everything adds up. eating a smaller bowl of icecream or better yet skip it. I wish youtube was like the bodybuilding sites so you can see a pic of the person trying to put someone down
Know alot of people who never exercise, eat twice as much as most normal people for dinner every day, eat junk food and desserts constantly -and have done so for a long time.
Yet none of them are even close to gaining 200 pounds.
1. Ok, the apple was a bad example. (just wanted to show how little 100 cals can be)
2. Sure, the math seems to add up.
But ...yet...don't you too think it all seems a bit unreasonable?
These days it feels like every other person you meet probobly eats a more than they should. And not just by 100 cals -would guess it's quite common to take entire dinner portions extra, for instance.
Yet, it's still quite unusual to gain such a huge amount of weight as 200 pounds.
This sort of nonsense will be looked back on with shame and incomprehension by future generations. This person has the audacity to question what is, for most people, a part of the natural ageing process.
Fear mongering for financial gain.
Why would anyone choose the distorted physical shape this person has created for himself anyway?
It's about physical activity and types of calories. There are studies everywhere stating that people who eat nuts weigh less than those who don't. Nuts are high in fat and calories and those people eating them, have a higher calorie count but are not gaining weight. I'm sorry but this guy doesn't know what he's talking about.
Well no shit. If you eat purely 3000 calories of tartar sauce and chocolate, you'll weigh more than someone who consumes the same amount in whole grain pasta and gazpacho. This guy has his own website; do you?
Watch out what the exercise machines says-- they're notoriously high. Also, most exercise burn estimates you'll find is total exercise burn instead of net.
Depends on the size and weight of the individual! A 250 pound man could probably burn more than a thousand calories in an hour, if he ran at a decent pace.
it doesnt matter what you eat, as long as its no more then your daily need. you can get your 2500 calories from chocolate or from pasta and its all the same.
er.... no. Some foods have a higher fat content than others. If you eat, say, 2500 calories of very fatty foods, or foods that are high in sugar vs foods with more protein and less fat, you're going to gain A LOT of wait with the high fat and sugar diet. If I could stay fit and eat all the chocolate I wanted, I'd die happy, but it doesn't work that way ^-^;;
If you eat 2500 calories of very fatty foods, or 2500 calories of high sugar foods. It doesn't matter. Calories are calories, sugars can make you fat just as badly. I'm currently losing weight, not by eating tofu and rice but I sure like some chips or chocolate. But I eat with decency. But remember it's the calories that matter, cause fats and sugar, both end up that way. Give Steve an email if you don't have the capacity to understand something this simple :)
why is it i only gained 10lbs of weight in 3 years yet my liefstyle was radically different in those 3 years then my previous lifestyle? e.g sedentary (no exercise or daily movement) and a large surpluss of calories. metabolic rate through genetics?
As far as the water burning calories, the energy unit "calorie" is in fact the energy required to heat 1 gram of water by 1 degree Celsius. Unfortunately, we measure things in Calories...aka kilocalories. If you drink 1,000 grams of water that's 10 degrees C below your body temp you'll use a mere 10 Calories.
I suppose I'd have at least a smidgen of respect for you if you also demonstrated a way for me to accurately determine the number of calories I burn while doing a particular activity and burn due to my body's natural function. Otherwise this can only be taken relatively. Weight management is a negative feedback process. We're below ideal weight so we eat more. We're above ideal weight, so we eat less or exercise more.
The cold water thing is true. It's simple biological fact. Your body spends extra energy warming the water up to body temp. It doesn't spend much, so drinking 8 glasses of ice water a day won't make you lose noticeable amounts of weight. Think about drinking 64 ounces of water a day and your body burning 64 cals to warm it up. You could burn that walking up and down the stairs 10 times.
If the cold water thing had any merit, why wouldn't ice cream have the same effect? In fact, why not eat all of our meals cold so the body has to work to warm them up?
So true! And if it really made a difference people who lived in colder climates would be super skinny because their bodies are working to keep them warm.
I'm 5' 11" and discovered one day, years ago, that I weighed 215 pounds. So I did a few things, but the most effective change, on I still adhere to, is not snacking. I almost never snack, just a little bowl of ice cream a few times a week. Just some cereal for breakfast, a medium lunch and dinner... and I've weighed 155 or less for the last 25 years! I still wear 32 waist jeans I bought ten years ago.
I think what he meant was, will drinking ice water help burn some extra calories, I've heard that as well, that ice water will cause you to burn extra calories because your body will exert extra energy (calories) into warming up the water. thats just what I've heard
Its true. My health/phys-ed teacher told us about this. If you drink a lot of cold water daily, your body has 2 warm the water up. Like 1 calorie is burned for every ounce of water that is heated up one degree+. The proof lies in your pee because it comes out warm. If you drink a lot you could end up loseing like 3-5 pounds in a year.
i dont know the exact conversion of it. I was told if you drink eight glasses of 8 ounce watter you could burn 64-80 depending on how cold the watter is.
That is just so not true! The amount of calories you burn daily depends on your weight, right? So if you eat that extra 100 calories you will gain some weight, but the gaining will stop because your calorie need is higher in that new (higher) weight.
No. It doesn't matter how much you weight,it only matters what you do and how much you eat. A very big person who sits on his ass all day will not burn the "extra calories" just because he weights more.
But when counting resting metabolic rate, your weight is one of the factors. What's that all about? And I do know that there are controversies about the whole rmr calculations.
He is very well informed! Anorexia is a mental illness, people don't just become that way by being healthy and watching what they eat. People should know how many calories they put into their body's daily, but they don't. Why do you think there are so many overweight people in America?!

They hardly even weigh over 200 pounds in total.

It goes to show people that on average we only over eat by a few extra calories a day.
BodyPerformanceTV 2 years ago
First off many of the calories in an apple are FIBER which we don't digest!!! And second here's the math.
100 calories per day x 365 days = 36500 calories a year.
36500 cal. divide by 3500 cal. per lbs = 10.4 pounds per year.
20 years x 10 lbs per year = 200 pounds!
Lesson over.

WHAAAAT?
These numbers must be totally out there.
One apple is about 100 calories.
And this guy is saying that by eating an extra apple a day for 20 years, you will gain the entire weight of a freakin heavyweight wrestler.
Errr.`?
