Mercy killing, or euthanasia is an dangerous idea and should never be a loved, because it is, in reality impossible to administer.
In a time of economic crisis, massive cut down on the public health care sector, hospitals, euthanasia will be misused on patients that is regarded as not valuable on the labour market. Especially old people will be “euthanized” by the doctors for economic and resource viewpoints. But also long time unemployed, people on sick pensions, homeless and groups a like.
Is it me or is the title completely misleading; the interviewee is rather supporting legislation and discussion about euthanasia, rather than rejecting its moral basis...
"I will neither give a deadly drug to anybody if asked for it, nor will I make a suggestion to this effect. Similarly I will not give to a woman an abortive remedy. In purity and holiness I will guard my life and my art...." - Hippocratic Oath
Can you not see that if euthanasia becomes 'voluntary', this is only one step away from when it is made COMPULSORY. Once we embark upon that slippery slope, where will it all end? Back in 1990 we were lied to - 'embryo research will bring cures for diseases'. It never did. Life begins at conception i.e. when sperm and ovum fuse together to form a new, unique human life. This is a scientific fact. We refer to human embryos as 'human' because that's what they are - human.
An excellent discussion by a well informed and compassionate expert.
The law should be changed,as Professor Jackson says.
When working in the NHS,I saw far too many needless and distressing resuscitations in inappropriate circumstances.
As an atheist,I should like to choose the manner and timing of my departure, and I shall want my wishes to be respected and acted upon without fear of any legal interventions.
The government should acknowledge the need for a revision the present legislation.
Not only now but allways disabled and multiple sick(especially old) ppl have lived in our societies that needed help to live. Many of these ppl enjoey their lives but of
course a part of them whish to die because they cannot live independently or suffer much because of their disases but if you help a part of these ppl to die because they can not live an independent live any more how the other that enjoj their lives or suffer much but do not whant to die gonna interpret your signal?
Ontinue: They may be feel they should die because they load our society and we give them a guilty conscience. Or why the others will die but i live still?? I hope you understand my question!
This is a great video. Emily Jackson's commentary on this incredibly sensitive and controversial subject seems highly informed, calm and nuanced. I think it is about time Britain's government addressed these issues.

I believe this quote is quite appropriate
