  • Teenagers need all the help they can get...good video!

  • this is excellent, and extremely helpful to me even though I've had a few jobs already. Thanks!

  • Thanks for the feedback. I'm glad that you found the information to be useful. Ray

  • Thank you so much for saying so. I appreciate your kind words. Ray

  • your correct Ray it is never to early to learn and understand

  • Thanks, Olive. Well, I hope that the student's in my daughter's class feel the same way. I tried to keep it short so that I wouldn't bore them to sleep. Maybe they will remember a tip or two that will prove useful to them sometime in the future. Ray

  • Excellent information Ray. I might also add as a general note that Rome was not built in a day, and often times one does not get "the" job until one has been working for some time. Finally, NEVER quit a job without notice, and never give notice without having another job lined up. It is always easier to get another job if you are already employed.

  • Hi Terry, thanks. You mention some good points which I have often repeated to others, but ...

One day, after 3 1/2 years at a job I hated (the work was fine but management was horrible) I broke both of these rules - quit on the spot without having another job lined up. Oh, the pain! This was the most irrational thing I have ever done during my career, and I wouldn't recommend it, but sometimes (hopefully very rarely) you just gotta say "Screw It", or at least that's how I felt at the time.

  • Wonderful video Ray! All so true.

My most memorable interview was for my previous employment as a safety technician. They asked me a trick question. 'Manholes used to be square, and they are now round. Why is this?' ( I'll let you stew on that... but I got it right)

Then at the end they asked why they should hire me. I put it quite frankly, 'Because I'm the best person for this job'. Then I explained why. I knocked them off their chair... and I was in the position by the next week!

  • Thank you, Linnea. My guess about the manhole covers was that round made more sense, since pipes are round. Then I looked it up, and the reason I found was that round manholes can be rolled and require less effort to move once removed. Is that the answer you gave?

It sounds like you made quite a positive impression during the safety technician interview. I'm glad to hear it. Those types of victories really give one a boost in confidence. Ray

  • I could imagine that the manhole answer you found applies as well. But the answer they were looking for was that square ones can fall in, round ones can't.

  • well done Linnea

  • Great video!

  • Thanks for the thumbs up! Ray
