I am a Marine but i work with Army guys all the time. I do not say one branch workd harder than the other. What i do say is that if you are on a year long deployement your combat action is at a minimum. Even the Army guys i am with only deploy for 6 months. Everyone stay saf and healthy.
Everyone here talking shit is either a) In the DEP program or b) Never deployed at all c) A Marine/soldier fresh out of boot camp who thinks they know all the answers based on what they learned in 6 months

@Aorticax Thank you. If I could go back, I would do exactly the same. I would advise to join the military first, and then do college afterwards. The benefits you'll receive after the experience are very privileging, it establishes a particular maturity to begin real life, and it stacks your resume up BIG TIME. In laymen's terms, it sucks while you're in, but it's great when you're out. The benefits that compensate for the BS one experiences in marine infantry are more than enough.

Do you think Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder is something that inevitably affects all combat veterans to a certain degree, or just certain individuals? Despite having been in a warzone, you don't seem to fit the stereotypical "Apocalypse Now" type strung out battle shocked war veteran that Hollywood and the general public seem to constantly expect.

I'm curious .... if you could go back eight or nine years and do things over again, would you join the military again, or instead get a jump start on college or some variant of further education (grad school, law school, medical school, etc.)?

@Aorticax Thank you. If I could go back, I would do exactly the same. I would advise to join the military first, and then do college afterwards. The benefits you'll receive after the experience are very privileging, it establishes a particular maturity to begin real life, and it stacks your resume up BIG TIME. In laymen's terms, it sucks while you're in, but it's great when you're out. The benefits that compensate for the BS one experiences in marine infantry are more than enough.
