Dottie was one of a kind, my favorite Queen of Country. Underrated, underappreciated, but still on a par with any other female artist in country. Take a lesson, girls. This woman wrote her own songs, made her own career decisions, and bucked the Nashville establishment and set the city on its ear. She should be in the Hall of Fame, no doubt. It's been 17 years since the "Country Sunshine" went out, but I still miss her very much. Thank God for Youtube and the people who post Dottie.
Well, in 1980, I fell in love with Dottie's version of "A Lesson in Leavin'". When Jo Dee Messina came out with her version, I liked it well enough, but I had that special place in my heart for the original version.
My mom was a big Jim Reeves fan and when she heard this she said: "Jim sang a lot with Dottie and that is Dottie West's song!! That girl is messing it up!!" lol
She was so amazing.
