Would rather have the 300SL Roadster. It handled better as it had a different rear end set-up and I prefer the looks of the headlights on the roadster.
I don't think there is any other car that can compete in terms of being so ahead of its time. Call me crazy, but I'm pretty confident in my statement.
We have got a very good hint for you to keeping the nice old Engine in good shape with todays ultra dry eco fuels: Use 1:100 (1%) API TC two stroke oil / fuel mix as regular driving fuel, that keeps the old fuel-system gaskets, rubber parts, alloy parts etc... and cast iron metal surfaces of those vintage engines in excellent shape...and it also lubricates the valves and upper piston regions. Most Porsche vintage owners in Germany do so :) Also keeps carbs/Injection and tank clean and rustfree!
@GWnut1954 because the mx5 is actually working. if you've ever driven a 300SL, you'd be the first to notice it's not a sports car. as they describe in the video - it drives like a truck.
@MoskvaMorten I've restored and driven a gullwing - and yes you're right about the truck comment - but you have to compare it to cars of its time - a 57 chevy or corvette/jag for example
and the car so completely blows them away its nuts - this car accelerates on par with many modern sports cars - the sound is amazing
now stopping! thats another matter
and better drive it on a cool day as its hot as hell
is it weird that i want a beer after this? haha

This is the REAL Gullwing Mercedes. That modern SLS can be happy if it is half as remembered in 50 years.
Not to mention the original looks way better.

This car is hotter than Megan Fox in a toaster. Smothered in Tabasco sauce. And chewing a bunsen burner.
