I forgave my babysitter who physically and psychologically abused me in 1976-1978. I was locked in a closet with lights out, fed food which was contaminated, hit me with a wire hanger (don't joke about Christina Crawford either) on my penis, paddled me with a wooden paddle on my back,legs,thighs. She tormented me. I forgive her because to hate and have grudges makes one bitter and unable to let go.

Such a simple word to say, but pride or outside influence keeps people from actually doing. For some hanging onto the past is easier than to actually forgive. To forgive is to not throw things up in peoples face and keep a running tally for passed actions & to not blame others for everything that had ever gone wrong. I don't get modern attitiudes on forgiveness. if one party hurts another, is there no room for remorse on the aggressor's part? it seems we think that the victim has to bear the brunt, and the aggressor is never held to account.

In the past two years, I have had total devastation in my family, one event after another. My bitterness lies in the responses of those who I tho't loved me, whom I have supported thru' thick and thin for 30 years. It is a slippery slope of despair when I think on the hurt, so I am also fighting a battle with bitterness.

Much of the cruelty that men inflict on everyone around them is regurgitated pain from their past experiences, and they are usually completely unconscious of their actions. Many men can hardly feel anything, and are terrified of facing their own emotions. Honestly, I don't know why all you women aren't lesbians. I don't get modern attitiudes on forgiveness. if one party hurts another, is there no room for remorse on the aggressor's part? it seems we think that the victim has to bear the brunt, and the aggressor is never held to account.

@may99603 My heart really does go out to you. I am preaching at myself as much as to anyone else. You are right, it is a battle to let go and not perseverate. In the past two years, I have had total devastation in my family, one event after another. My bitterness lies in the responses of those who I tho't loved me, whom I have supported thru' thick and thin for 30 years. It is a slippery slope of despair when I think on the hurt, so I am also fighting a battle with bitterness.

@may99603 I turned to a friend recently for help because the hurt of it all was swallowing me up. She suggested that I forgive, and immerse myself in God's Word. For you, perhaps because it is so fresh, your need may be different. Bitterness is a prison that imprisons the bitter person; I just don't want to see another person held captive. Praying for you, God loves you very much.

@may99603 I don't mean to sound like Spock, but we should not let our emotions control our decisions. Emotions are real, yes, but are we to let them run our lives? How can you obey God is you are run by your emotions? Which will you obey? It really comes down to a choice of the will. Being controlled by the senses is carnality, our flesh, which according to Romans, is at war with the Spirit of God within us. I would strongly suggest reading and meditating on God's Word. buterflygris your so wonderful! forgiveness alone makes saints out of sinners. men alone find foregiveness extremely difficult, but there must be at least justice in every situation. so that the one we love to forgive might learn the sense of right and wrong. I presume this Forgiveness applies to a woman betrayed by a loverboy.

I expereinced a great lover of mine cheating, and it was the hardest thing to overcome, but from expereince I can say that all you can do is remember who you are and what you want in your life..and go and get them..its not that I am giving the advice to push these feelings away...more doing the opposite of where you are now. Meditate on why this has happened..take acccountability for your part in the situation and move out of the energy of victim..his choices are his..be strong..I send u love!
