I just heard that the UK govt is going to stop putting black boxes into their aircraft so they can save money on investigations and put the money they save into finding maddie's Parents lost dog.
@clarkneil1980 I stand corrected, I thought they'd have completed it by now, it was slated for 2013 but I heard they brought it forward to 2009 after certain terrorist attacks, guess the recession might have played a part, but I'm just an armchair enthusiast so what do I know :)
Due to recent government cutbacks next years air displays by he majesties armed forces will all be done using kits from the local pound shop. Also anyone interested in buying a second hand harrier jump jet is asked to pop down to the treachery offices by waterloo bridge, London next Sunday. As there will be a car boot sale arranged by the new minister for liquidations, sorry rationalisation. You will also be able to pick up some fire engines and hospital stuff cheep to.
Just wondering, but i have a question for anyone willing to answer with an honest answer, i have a stigmatism which basically means i cant see aswell as anyone else and its not even that serious or bad in fact its very minor but i was wondering if i could at least fly one these??
@0o0oDaNNo0o0 if you want to fly in the military you need 20/20 vision without aid. if you wanted to be a civilian pilot though; you need something more like 15/20 and if you have glasses/contacts, as long as you still reach that grade wearing the glasses/contacts its fine :) thing is, i don't know if merlins are flown commercially, and if they are they will be very expensive to train on!
@rockstarJDP the rules have changed, you are able to get laser correction and you must follow a strickt rehabilitation period for a year or so and you may fly in the military
I was driving up the A303, heading for the m3, two years back heading into a really bad storm. And in front of me, well 200ft to my left, appeared a Merlin balls out and as low as he could go trying to stay a head of the storm. I think I am still smiling from the look on the pilots face as we passed each other.
hahahaha the most advanced helicopter that the RAF operate and they are losing it to the Royal Navy! shows the MoD has got their priorities right then!

@bluecollarboiler When that happened a lot of people were furious over it but I can't imagine a single one of us passing up that opportunity if it was presented lol
This aircraft as you see does not have wings hehehe..........but if you mean the thing poppin outta both sides of the aircraft.........these are where the undercarriage is held
they are not wings, they cover the landing gear. they arent shaped that way to give lift, they are symmetrical airfoils... to reduce drag. if they were wings the bottom surface would be shorter than the top.
yeah i no where ut coming from, sorta look like stubby wings. uhm. but no its not fuel tanks nore is it what hold the undercarrage, its where the rear landing gear it kept:)
no, i was saying im not being sarcastic when i said thanks for teacher me, because i though you might have though i was being a wanker and the whole teaching thing:S

merlin is alot better than CH-53
wiganerrmc 1 year ago
Better at what? the CH-53 is a heavy lift helicopter. The merllin is only a medium lift helicopter. comparable to the CH-47 chinook.
In terms of transport logistics, the CH-53 is the better aircraft.
