  • RAF has great pilots.

  • beautiful machine

  • I just heard that the UK govt is going to stop putting black boxes into their aircraft so they can save money on investigations and put the money they save into finding maddie's Parents lost dog.

  • We have an airforce? if the government dosent stop cutting there budget we wont!

  • @atkinsm0607 Calm down dear.

  • it doesn't compare to the maneuvering of the Tiger Eurocopter. But a chopper that size and class. That's kinda intense

  • pretty helicopter

  • the best think is this is the weight which make this machine very stable......

  • RPG IMBOUND!

  • @Crazybenjiwoo *"inbound" my friend not imbound

  • @TFrench009 merlin

  • wow, the Merlin is super maneuverable! that U.S military should have adopted this aircraft!! it's like a plane and helicopter combined..

  • @immakickyourass why would we want basicly a puma when we have the osprey?

  • @immakickyourass Marine One (US presidential helicopter) is a converted Merlin.

  • @redrosecounty, not yet.. Still a VH-3D Sea King. As far as I'm aware!.

  • @clarkneil1980 I stand corrected, I thought they'd have completed it by now, it was slated for 2013 but I heard they brought it forward to 2009 after certain terrorist attacks, guess the recession might have played a part, but I'm just an armchair enthusiast so what do I know :)

  • @redrosecounty, wouldn't worry too much, I'm in the same boat as you in respect to being an armchair enthusiast..

  • its missing the air wolf theme

  • Soon to merlin display team NAVY :(

  • uffffffffffffffffffffffffffff

  • should of done a barrel roll =.=

  • 24 people couldent fly a helicopter in GTA.

  • luxury by vera com

  • Due to recent government cutbacks next years air displays by he majesties armed forces will all be done using kits from the local pound shop. Also anyone interested in buying a second hand harrier jump jet is asked to pop down to the treachery offices by waterloo bridge, London next Sunday. As there will be a car boot sale arranged by the new minister for liquidations, sorry rationalisation. You will also be able to pick up some fire engines and hospital stuff cheep to.

  • Just wondering, but i have a question for anyone willing to answer with an honest answer, i have a stigmatism which basically means i cant see aswell as anyone else and its not even that serious or bad in fact its very minor but i was wondering if i could at least fly one these??

  • @0o0oDaNNo0o0 if you want to fly in the military you need 20/20 vision without aid. if you wanted to be a civilian pilot though; you need something more like 15/20 and if you have glasses/contacts, as long as you still reach that grade wearing the glasses/contacts its fine :) thing is, i don't know if merlins are flown commercially, and if they are they will be very expensive to train on!

  • @rockstarJDP not in every airforce is like you say. in the video the pilot is a military and is wearing glasses e.g.

  • @fabrix7777 oh yeah, your right. either i've been misinformed or that rule applies only to fighter pilots.

  • @rockstarJDP the rules have changed, you are able to get laser correction and you must follow a strickt rehabilitation period for a year or so and you may fly in the military

  • @millvillshootah really? who pays for the laser correction though?

  • lol the team has my name xD

  • just started flying it in Arma 2 -.-

  • helicopter period :D

  • i want to drive it.

  • The Merlins have been given to the Navy now. Shame, they were awesome :) Bit of 28 squadron there.

  • ROYAL AIR FORCE?

  • I was driving up the A303, heading for the m3, two years back heading into a really bad storm. And in front of me, well 200ft to my left, appeared a Merlin balls out and as low as he could go trying to stay a head of the storm. I think I am still smiling from the look on the pilots face as we passed each other.

  • Idiovention, probably because you wrote it in the intention of it going viral. take a marketing class and try again

  • why hasn't my helicopter parody not gone viral yet? and this one has....

  • @Idiovention i lol'd so much.

  • now that is what i call a helicopter

  • Well yea the royal navy is way more important than the RAF

  • @thewalkereffect not really, there both very important, there both sea and air so you cant say one is more important than another.

  • hahahaha the most advanced helicopter that the RAF operate and they are losing it to the Royal Navy! shows the MoD has got their priorities right then!

  • Id love to get a type rating on a 101! They are just fantastic machines

  • l'un des meilleurs :p

  • Pretty cool how that chopper releases the red poison gas in the beginning. Probably to pwn all you n00bs out there.

  • yeah merlin pwns ch-53 hands dwn not in lift capability but in grace and beauty :D

  • The RAF helicopter pilots in this video really know there machine and she`s a beauti!

  • it looks a bit like airwolf!

  • The yanks have bought these babies.

  • BEAUTIFULL CHOPPER.

  • Is this the British equivilant of the Super stallion? Here we only use these Merlins (renamed cyclones) for SAR

  • pretty much, still a bit smaller though :)

  • no its wrong

  • hey look its waving on us. say hi lol

  • the guy waving in the back is a robot

  • ch-53e super stalion for life

  • This is an AW101 medium lift helicopter. In no way comparable to the CH-53 heavy lift helicopter of the US marines.

  • merlin is alot better than CH-53

  • Better at what? the CH-53 is a heavy lift helicopter. The merllin is only a medium lift helicopter. comparable to the CH-47 chinook.

In terms of transport logistics, the CH-53 is the better aircraft.

  • jhjkhgfdsihf

  • Ours is stil in bits and hasnt flown for about 6 bloody months! now its in lay-up and wont fly for another six bloody months.

  • This an EH-101 by any chance?

  • yh best chopper in da world

    italy-uk chopper

  • WHAT!!!!?? you've clearly never worked on them?, typical MOD bit of kit, the bst technology had to offer, IN THE MID 80S!

  • shhh...lets have some glory 4 a while!!! haha

    merry christmas byw

  • pilot wearing glasses?

  • sure why not, just needs corrected 20/20 to fly

  • yh thats what i was thinking :)

  • i hope the US gets its act together and takes delivery of the Marine one version ... its quite the machine.

  • Iv been in one at like 7000 feet, my mums X boyfriend was in the navy we got on it for Free! and i saw a lazer guided bomb

  • So does this chopper have a jet engine that pushes it for word? That thang went virticle for a sec no?

  • just its momentum carrying it up i believe

  • lovely and heavy but still the best is the chinook workhorse after all it has proved in war. :) keep the best comeing RAF :) will always be a fan and hopefully a member someday :) fingers crossed

  • Lynx all the way

  • hats off!!

  • lol love it, a merlin doing a wheely

  • Great cockpit footage!

  • oh, we have a helicopter in service then!

  • LMAO - that made me laugh

  • @rik7467 LMFAO :D

  • @rik7467 Only if the ground forces behave and eat their dinner, otherwise it goes back in the shed and no one is allowed to play with it.

  • OMG that's the EH101... it was meant to be heavy, but those guys make it look like it wasn't!

  • LOOK! It's Prince Harry, landing in his girlfriend's back yard! Now if THAT doesn't get you laid..... LOL!

  • As though being an heir to the throne wouldn't get you laid on its own merit!

  • is that when the Prince landed in his girlfriend's back yard?

  • It was Prince William you fucking tool.

Harry is too ginger to get laid.

  • @bluecollarboiler When that happened a lot of people were furious over it but I can't imagine a single one of us passing up that opportunity if it was presented lol

  • @bluecollarboiler That would work for me!

  • @bluecollarboiler In my case, probably even that would not get me laid :\

  • @bluecollarboiler Hey come on...any guy that was in his place would have done the same. :-)

  • @bluecollarboiler its prince william lol

  • nice music and motion!

  • I saw these in Iraq going underneath the bridges on the Tigris river..cool

  • computergames will look like that one day.

  • wish the U.S. had these

  • easy

    watch?v=VtsA4A0tL04&feature=related

  • what's the music??

    And very nice job;)

  • Belguim bought the NH-90 but the merlin was way better to replace the seaking.

  • Saw them at the Red Bull Air Race in London n they were fantastic!

  • That's some beastly flying, nice job RAF.

  • Are the "wings" the fuel tanks ?

  • This aircraft as you see does not have wings hehehe..........but if you mean the thing poppin outta both sides of the aircraft.........these are where the undercarriage is held

  • I see, thanks, it does look it's shaped as a wing, does it give some lift on forward flight ?

  • well the whole fuselage will produce some form of lift so i suppose it would

  • they are not wings, they cover the landing gear. they arent shaped that way to give lift, they are symmetrical airfoils... to reduce drag. if they were wings the bottom surface would be shorter than the top.

  • hey man.

yeah i no where ut coming from, sorta look like stubby wings. uhm. but no its not fuel tanks nore is it what hold the undercarrage, its where the rear landing gear it kept:)

    hope i helped

  • They do act as wings also, with the double camber giving the Merlin the ability to fly upside down ^^

  • ahhhh

well thanks for teaching me mate.

    no sarcasm eather

  • Your a douche

  • and your a fucking cock loving fuck.

    seriously mate.

  • no, i was saying im not being sarcastic when i said thanks for teacher me, because i though you might have though i was being a wanker and the whole teaching thing:S

  • oh lmao... i get it now ^^

In that case, I don't think your a douche :P haha.

  • hah ha well i dont think ur a 'and your a fucking cock loving fuck.

  • Peace Bro.

  • ive been in 1 lol @ you

  • Glad to be of service

  • i think there good cuz, THERE BRITISH!

  • the US do have these... google VH-71 Kestrel

  • wish the U.S. had these

  • Almost looks like a CH-53 Super stallion.

  • props to the RAF :D

  • What's the red stuff made of?

  • usually dye sprayed into the engine exhaust - that's what it is on most jet aircraft anyway

  • that is coming out of the stubwings not the exhaust

  • yeah there made of an special foam that makes the heli less noisy and it can take more bullet impacts

  • Great performance!

  • They could put these on ALL YOUR BASE

  • italy and uk are the best with helis

  • France seem pretty good too

  • rigghtt am a bit hazy as to their function are the anti submarine tailored or reccy n troop carryin choppers?

its ma dream to fly in the FAA preferably theese awesome helicopters!

  • The RAF operates the HC3 and HC3a Medium support/lift, which obviously have roles for transport of assets.

The Royal Navy operates the HMA Mk1... it has many roles, including ASW (anti-submarine warfare) and Surveillance. Go visit the RN website for more info.

  • Is the front probe for refulling ?

  • No.. It's for probing. :D No, it is for refuelling.

  • Brilliant aircraft.

  • my uncle flew thm b4 he was outranked and is now a general in the RAF
