Hey mike! Sorry for the double post, but I just wanted to say that I agree with you. I am a college student and attend many graduations. At those graduations, I see many students obtaining their degrees and show immense Latino pride! The future is bright for Latinos!
And did you know white people are 60 percent of the drug users and the other 40% is shared amongst the other races. That's a really interesting concept considering minorities are the ones that deal the drugs. let's talk about that and since we want to discuss the african american family dynamic let's talk about the white family dynamic like how the kids are most likely more disrespectful or why they are so quick to put their parents in an old folks home. Let's explore these issues!
What you said Mike is very interesting and important. I wonder if they are going to a White America special and inform us of white problems because I see a lot of white people with problems but I don't see any specials on it. They should do a special on white racism, superiority complex, What makes white people steal after they are already rich on wall street, why do so many white people subscribe to anorexia and most of all why do they get tans? or obsess over blonde hair?
well this is exactly what happens to black people as a matter of fact we are trained to do like it's actually positive. White people have problems too but they never do this. They never put a magnifying glass over their problems. Interesting.
I agree, Squareyellowpaper! CNN's Latino In America opened up the gates for "hating on latinos". You're absolutely, right. What you're seeing in Arizona, is white folks seeking their 15 minutes of fame!
It appears to be beat on Latino year. I am white and I am ashamed of the portrayal of Latinos. I am angry with the betrayal of Latinos by Blacks. I am disgusted with the hate of Latinos by South Western whites.
FINALLY someone speaks the truth. That documentary was a total disappointment.Everyone who thinks "Latinos" its always Mexicans and even their getting dog left & right.I'm Rican with African/Italian mix.A LOT of Ricans are mix with black.its part of culture but not recognize in America.I'm not African-American heritage my fam is from the PR & proud I will not denounce that
@timmunozlasvegas are you seriously saying that about Mexico? you do know that there are Afro-Mexicans there or are you really uneducated about yur own culture? I seriously take offense that you had the audacity to imply that because you are of Mexican decent you are somehow superior to Cubans, Puerto Ricans, and Dominicans ... news flash! you are no better than anyone.. Latinos come in different colors and thank goodness most of us are proud of where we come from.. me das pena
There was no implication of superiority anywhere in timmunozlasvegas's post--you "saw" it because it gave you reason to rant. He/she has a completely legitimate point: Mexican, Cuban, Rican, Hispanic, and even indigenous Central/South American are all different and deserve to be recognized as such. Their issue isn't one of superiority, but of overgeneralizing, just as people rightly get upset when all Asian people are referred to as Oriental or Chinese (or even Asian, for that matter).
@pinkybrooklyn Yes speak the truth! The Afro/black Mexican population in Mexico numbers more than 5 million today! ANd Hispanics/Latinos come in all different colors! Finally a SMART person!
I know this will probably piss off a lot of people, but, I'm personally getting tired of people lumping all Latino's into one batch. I'm of Mexican decent, and in no way consider Ricans, Dominicans, or Cubans part-and-parcel of my race. Those other races have colored blood. Thus, of African decent. Simply, they're half-colored.
The report about Latino's in America was a negative commentary, and the negative aspect were all of Ricans, Dominicans, and Cubans, not Mexicans. We are different.
I am a little curious as to what you mean? But is their something wrong with Afro Latinos or being so?
And there are plenty of Black people in Mexico, there is an estimated more than 5 million Afro Mexicans in Mexico! And no offense, but you never know, you could have black/Afro roots in you and not even know it! George Lopez recently did a DNA test and found out that he has black African descent in him!
I also believe it was wrong for the USA to put Spanish speaking people into one group! This was a pententious and deliberate act by white Anglo Americans!
Also if the USA is going to use this term why don't we include Equitorial Guinea the only Spanish speaking African country/nation or why don t we include Guam, or Samoa, or even Trinidad&Tobago or even Jamaica! And how can they include Brazil! It is stupid!
Same thing with English speaking people! Why don't we call them Brittanic or Anglo, or put Belize, Barbados, Jamaica, Australia or Guyana etc and other English speaking nations as one group! It is racist and exploitive!
I'm so tired of Mexicans saying exactly what you have said. Mexicans are aboriginal or indigenous or indians whatever you want to call them. They are also Africans. Brought to Mexico mostly from Nigeria. There's even a website dedicated to afromexico. Wikipidea has very good info too. So, educate yourself. Learn about your people.
@hugaloa We all bleed red just like when Jesus was crucified. Please father, forgive them for the hate and the crimes they commit against us, the hispanic people.
Mike mi hermano no puedo estar mas de acuerdo con tigo me encanto este video y como colombiano, y mas q eso, como latino amiercano me lleno de felizidad al hoir a un compañero latino hablando asi
You know what Mike at first i thought your were just hating on Soledad. But after seeing more of her videos, you have a point. She is only in it to make a story sell, she even says it "I'm a journalist". It just so happens that she's HALF-Latina so she presumes that entitles her to use our Good name. She sounds so fake you can tell, and you as well have a good point i too know plenty of Latino Families with way better stories then "oh no my 15yr old daughter is pregnant...again!!"
Did you actually believe Soledad would present a real-life story, or sell everyone down the river for ratings? It's called "race baiting." Like PT Barnum said: there's a sucker born every ninute...
Respectfully, I disagree. Its not fair to only portray the good of what Latinos in America have become, because the TRUTH is that much of our community is still struggling. I liked how Soledad juxtaposed successful Latinos with troubled immigrants and pregnant teenagers. It was artful and overall hopeful. To just hide away in the closet the bad part would be biased and not do justice to all of America's Latinos. I was able to relate to both sides, the good and the bad, I have seen it today.
Bullshit! The majority if the people in this documentary they interviewed were not black Latinos! None identified as black at all, although two families you could tell were Afro Latinos.
But besides that, the majority of the people in this documentary special were interviewed were so called white and mestizo Latinos!!!

You skipped certain facts. Latinos have a birth population issue. As well as job creation issue and No other races don't have this problem with there teenagers and youngsters. The parents have a deep understanding and take very well care so they don't end up corrupted. The problem is Poverty causes this to change. Lack of education is one of the primary issues. You should check how the schooling system is. Most other races cannot get in schools because there overpopulated by illegal immigrants.
@warsun99 It's kind of sad that having children is seen as bad when children are supposed to be a gift. In my city, other races do not have a problem getting into schools. Actually, right now there is a debate about our my city's public school being segregated. What the hell! It's 2009!
Okay, so far we had Black in America, Latino in America, what about " White in America"? as an African America male, I've noticed white people like to orchestrate an accordian monkey to scrutinize every ethnic group in our country but their own. Why should they be exempt from scrutinization?
Well you are right ! That would be a good idea! Everyone is saying they should make White In America ! I agree. LOL ! But if that happens if they show the negative things white people do, it would not mean or do anything because whites are the ones in power! So either way we can't win !
@81Skippy This is true. People never say what s wrong with white people. Some stupid white boy told me the other day that whites are genetically superior to latinos and are more successful. It makes me want to show them even more that we could be as successful or even more because there are many successful Latinos in this country.
another lame part of that CNN thing was how they showed some young latino actor who was saying how latinos could only get acting spots as cholos or yard clean up kinda dumb..wat about benicio del toro, jimmy smits, even charlie sheen. singer nelly fertado the list goes on
Mike, I've got some bad news for you. Pregnant teenagers and Latino kids not graduating are what the viewers are concerned about. CNN did it for ratings. If there weren't so many such characters in the poor neighborhoods, she could have spent more time on the Eva Longoria and George Lopez excerpts you seemed to enjoy. Attempting to gloss it over with "other races have those problems, too" really sidesteps how common it is among Hispanics in the U.S. Sorry, it's the truth.
Too many Latinos sell themselves short by not studying hard and earning the grades and the degrees they deserve in higher education. Thank you for this youtube video Mike because it was what many people were thinking.
Mike Robles for president!!! And I agree with winetruck. I'm proud to be Latina but I have many white friends who I love and we CANNOT as Latinos fall into the trap of blaming our transgressions and faults on white people. We need to lift ourselves up by being kind to others and not only working hard but also working smart.
CNN is garbage and their ratings reflect that. They've been competing with Fox in a "race to the bottom" of journalism for years now, and their brand has been damaged beyond repair in the process. The CNN that was Ted Turner's baby back in the day simply doesn't exist anymore. I've written them off forever.
Kudos to your comments but please don't fall in to the trap of going after 'White People'. There a millions of 'White People', me being one, who have the utmost respect and admiration for the Latino culture and population.
lol. I knew u were white when you used "Kudos". I don't think he is going after the white people or is saying that white people are putting us latinos down. He is just criticizing Soledad for portraying latinos in such a bad subjective maner.
As I said I am Puerto Rican but born and raised in Long Island. Now since I have a spanish last name people think I don't speak english, and think I am a dishwasher, and have a spanish girlfriend who has 2 kids. I am the opposite. I speak fluent english, I am a chef and my girlfriend is white! But on the other hand SOME spanish people call her gringa and "white bitch". So what does that say for some latinos Like you said you don't wanna sound white so if you see my g/f you gonna call her gringa
I've only seen parts of this doc but I think this doc didn't do a damn thing. Granted I haven't seen the whole thing but still. It potrays the stereo type that most latinos speak no english, and can find no work because of it and latinas have 2 kids by 19 and gang stories etc. I am Puerto Rican but born and raised in Long Island, and speak english and have a good job But I agree latinos have.problems as well as well as whites, blacks, asians, italitans . I'm gonna give an example, CONT...
Yeah they do thats why they treated you like the black people you are seems like some of you needed a reminder of your blackness we call it the tiger woods/OJ simpson nigger wake u p call have fun sell outs whitey hates you as well!
I havent seen the Doc yet. I used to live in PR but i believe that liberals like to portray minorities as the lowest of the low and how we need to help them instead of telling them you control your own lives, you control your destinies, and work hard for a better future.
Mike I totally agree with you. I am Italian, consider myself Latino too here in the States. There are thousand of stories of successful Latinos here but CNN did not pick up any...too bad. Hope they will be able to prepare a second version more honest and real. Good job Mike!
yeah thats true huh..my dads side is"spanish" as in spain. yhey live in new mexico. and if you didnt know they had a spanish last name you wouldnt know theyre 'hispanic'. theyre not new imigrants my fams bin in new mexico before the usa ever existed :)
What the hell ? No they're not. there's only three countries that are hispanic that actually have notable amounts of black people which is cuba, puertorico (and there's not that many in puertorico) , and the dominican republic.
@NJN0000 What the hell! yes there are! You are totally wrong! Puerto Rico, Cuba, and Dominican Republic of course have strong African cultures and afrodescendnts! But African culture is strong in all ofLatin America! Colombia has the largest black population of all Spanish speaking Latin American nations-more than 20 million afro colombianos! In Ecuador between 10%-20% of Ecuador's population is black! Venezuela has a large black minoritypopulation! Bolivia has more than 110,000 Afro Bolivians!
Bravo Mike. Latinas from Washington Heights feel insulted by this show. It only reinforced stereotypes. It's ok to show the 41% that get pregnant and dropout from High School since its a real problem. But where are the 59% who make it to college? They can serve as a great inspiration for our young Latinas?
I think Soledad should send an apology to all Latinas out there and make another show to feature stories that show the other side of the coin.
How you view LIA can depend on what you were expecting. If you were expecting all positivity then you'd be disappointed. I thought the show was realistic in the sense that it highlighted many of the issues(positive and negative) that are part of the Latino community. Teen pregnancy, dropouts and gang violence are problems in the Latino community for example. I think it comes down to emphasis. Did the show over emphasize these things in comparison to other things?
I really believe this show overempahsized the problems and failed to make a connection between the serious issues in the Latino community and how much the Latino community has achieved. It should have been more balanced.
I Know Bro...Instead Of Talking About The Honor Students In Latino High Schools She Points Out the 70% That Don't Graduate On Time...And That Whole Teenage Pregnant Girl...No Hombre...What Positive Can Anyone Take From That????
Well my latin brother, they did the same to the blacks and when i heard about this doc i was like oh boy not the latins too! i hated blk in america 1 and 2.
I completely agree w/you! Why should we have expected more from CNN? Soladad did the same crappy coverage for the Black in America series. She failed to contribute anything positive to her black identity too. It's hard to believe that Soladad has 100% complete production control over the finished product. But, I've learned from watching both profiles on "Ethnicity in America," not to rely on white corporate America to highlight any of our accomplishments. Proud Afro-Mexi-Boricua!

Kudos to your comments but please don't fall in to the trap of going after 'White People'. There a millions of 'White People', me being one, who have the utmost respect and admiration for the Latino culture and population.
winetruck1 2 years ago

I havent seen the Doc yet. I used to live in PR but i believe that liberals like to portray minorities as the lowest of the low and how we need to help them instead of telling them you control your own lives, you control your destinies, and work hard for a better future.

How can she compare policy applied to an undocumented immigrant nowadays to the Peter Pan policy Mel Martinez received in 1962? That's LUDICROUS!
FOR TOO LONG CUBANS HAVE BEEN ELITE IN THIS COUNTRY. THEIR POLICY IS UNFAIR TO THAT OF THE REST OF THE HISPANIC COMMUNITY, PERIOD.

btw, I meant "Their immigration policy is unfair (compared to) that of the rest of Hispanics."

Mike I totally agree with you. I am Italian, consider myself Latino too here in the States. There are thousand of stories of successful Latinos here but CNN did not pick up any...too bad. Hope they will be able to prepare a second version more honest and real. Good job Mike!

But many more Latinos are BLACK ! That is something else we need to acknowledge too even more !
chsn09 2 years ago
What the hell ? No they're not. there's only three countries that are hispanic that actually have notable amounts of black people which is cuba, puertorico (and there's not that many in puertorico) , and the dominican republic.
NJN0000 2 years ago

CrowdPleeza 2 years ago 3
I really believe this show overempahsized the problems and failed to make a connection between the serious issues in the Latino community and how much the Latino community has achieved. It should have been more balanced.

I Know Bro...Instead Of Talking About The Honor Students In Latino High Schools She Points Out the 70% That Don't Graduate On Time...And That Whole Teenage Pregnant Girl...No Hombre...What Positive Can Anyone Take From That????

Well my latin brother, they did the same to the blacks and when i heard about this doc i was like oh boy not the latins too! i hated blk in america 1 and 2.

when will you wake up hard work only applies to whites you arent white we have been telling you for years your elders know the truth.
samir3323 2 years ago
I completely agree w/you! Why should we have expected more from CNN? Soladad did the same crappy coverage for the Black in America series. She failed to contribute anything positive to her black identity too. It's hard to believe that Soladad has 100% complete production control over the finished product. But, I've learned from watching both profiles on "Ethnicity in America," not to rely on white corporate America to highlight any of our accomplishments. Proud Afro-Mexi-Boricua!
