When I saw the movie "The Rose" is when I fell in love with the Divine One, Ms Bette Midler. That one movie had a tremendous impact on me as a young Marine, and to this day, hearing her sing this song brings back a flood of fond, sometimes sad, sometimes joyous memories. Thank You Ms Midler for enriching my life.

because the composer "forgot to lie" - because as per Academy rules, a song can only be nominated if it was "specifically commissioned/written" for a particular film. the composer of "The Rose" wrote this actually for her own album.
