  • when are you playing the bass beats on the first paradiddle, nic vid btw...

  • this is the basic beat of drum 'n' bass right?

  • The bass drum and snare rhythm in this video combined with a 8th note hi-hat and the Amen Break are the basic beats of D&B drumming. The idea of applying paradiddle stickings is a great way to enhance D&B beats. Cheers Ydna

  • never would of thought of that on my own lol nic vid dude

  • Effin' amazing. I've been fooling around with a lot of D&B lately and really loving it.

  • Sweet ikkle snare.. Nice video man,,

  • Thanks mate, I appreciate it :-)

  • whats that cymbal to the left of the hats ?????

  • That's a Sabian Chopper effect cymbal

  • nice job man. what kind of hats are those?

  • Thanks mate :-) These are 13" Zildijan K's hi-hats

  • @Jungleritter K custom?

  • Just K, not K custom :-)

  • Thanks so much man i'm gonna practise this till my hands fall off! (no joke)

  • You teach well, man. thanks.

  • Thanks, I appreciate it :-)

  • I just found your channel. You're an awesome drummer, man. Props. And I love the advice you give. It's not about talent, it's about learning from others and taking what they do and putting your own spin on it.

  • chester playing!!!! amazing man!!!!!! :D :D :D

  • That's nice to hear mate, thanx!

  • That small snare is amazing sounding.

  • Good...

But Beardyman could do this with his mouth!!!

  • nice nice nice

  • Chester Bennington plays drum set?

  • i think im going to play with my high hat in the middle from now on!!! why did i not think of this befoere?

  • Kool vids. KJ sawka does a great job of merging the 2 formats of live drumming and then using software to enhance his live drumming.Im just saying you dont have to be "team live" or "team electronic" they are both great and compliment each other

  • I totally agree :-)

  • WHAT KIND OF SNARE IS THE SMALLER ONE?

  • That's a 10" Mapex Black Panther

  • @Jungleritter Thanks, thinkin of gettin that or the less pricey sonor

  • Ed norton plays drum set?

  • I never really spent much time on my rudiments. Seems like most really skilled drummers know at least the basics by heart, but I don't really see how really practical a paradiddle is when it doesn't accomplish much more than the easier.. single stroke... Is it really worth spending my time on?

  • As soon as you play the paradiddle on two different drums (RH on one, LH on the other) you will notice that it offers a lot of possibilities you couldn't play with the single stroke. A paradiddle is only a combination of the two most important things a drummer can learn: The single stroke and the double stroke...It helps you to switch hands whenever you want to without having to crossstick. It's really worth spending time with it..

    Cheers

    Ydna

  • @Jungleritter I can see that. I play metal primarily now though... and you don't really need that kind of skill for metal. I'm focusing more on PLAYIN' REALLY FAST so making next level beats doesn't seem all that important. Maybe some day!!

  • @Loustrikesagain how long u had been playing drums? maybe some drummer could think different than me. But observe how the pros play, and do not watch a video... they always talks or shows the BASICS because those boring exercises or rudiments are the FOUNDATIONS of their skills...if u analyze, brake it or slow the tempo and of their grooves, hand or foot ostinatos you would see rudiments.. ha! they also gives you the most important thing CONTROL, ACCENTS, SPEED ...

  • @zopons Been playing for like 4 years. And yeah, I get that.

  • Great drummin´ and great teacher!!! :)

  • thumbs up.

  • I feel like i'll never get my paradiddles even 1/2 as fast, I seem to just give up and do single stroke all the time, But it's really boring...

  • Try to accent the first and fifth note and feed from the rebound you get from doing this, it really helps. Stay relaxed and practice it every day a bit, it's gonna get better, you'll see.

  • @Jungleritter & @RetroJamie: The "breakthrough" moment for me was the inverted paradiddle. The RLRRLRLL thing felt forced and stiff for a long time, but when I played RLLRLRRL, it suddenly felt like all of the ghosted note patterns I'd been playing for years. That's when I understood.

  • MR ANDERSON!!!!! WELCOME TO THE MATRIX

  • That was fuckin tight

  • Very useful advices also for who like me play drums since 20 years. Congratulations.

  • I think I have a new hero.

  • Bravo maestro !

  • CANT WAIT TO GET MY DRUM KIT.... i hope to have 1/4 of your talent someday :D

  • Thanks man! You know, talent is what you might have or not have at the beginning, that's before you have to put in the hard work and the hours behind the kit :-)) Just have fun when you get your drumkit, play as often as you can and learn from others, that's what it all comes down too.

    Cheers

    Ydna

  • You sir, are epic! Just gotta get me a drum kit lol

  • Wich model of hi hat please!!

  • That's a 13" Zildijan K :-)

  • Hey, this is a nice instructional man. After watching expert village, one tends to think all youtube lessons are completely useless.

  • Great instructional video. Subscribing to your channel now and looking forward to seeing the rest of your videos.

  • Thanx mate, I really appreciate it :-)

  • is your main snare there a Brady?

  • Yes, that's a Brady

  • man you're so great!! very inspiring :) thank you

  • Cool videos man. It's kind of hard to hear your narration most of the time though, to be honest. I think you maybe need to speak up more into the mic, kind of drop off on the end of each sentence. It's not so much your accent as it is the volume level..

  • Thanks for the tip! I think the voice quality improved in my newer videos. It's a bit difficult to find the right balance with the mic, if it's too close to the mouth it doesn't work well because of too many hisses and pops, too far away is not good either :-)

  • You are so fucking good!!

  • I most play Metal & this is just amazing. I think I'm going to learn some basics so I can play Metal with a Jungle influence. Even though these are just basics, they seem so hard to me. I think once I get it down I can do so much with it.

  • Metal with Jungle influence? I would surely love to hear that, could be a great combination :-)

  • @Jungleritter Well it could take a while, but when I get to a good point, I'll make a video & add it as a response to this.

  • Amazing technique!

  • It's all good, reminds me of my youth. Early '90's in the Midlands of England. Shit place but banging sounds. To see it played is truly awesome, well done dude.

  • I bet the early 90's in England were wild, I'm just reading a great book about the rave and D&B/Jungle scene during those times, great stuff :-)

  • love it love it love it. Now to buy a drumkit. :/

  • this is great stuff. thanks alot for sharing your knowledge. i've been practicing everyday your techniques, patterns,... improving everyday thanks to your videos and lots of practice...

  • Thanks a lot, that's really nice to hear :-)

  • spielst du immer rimshots ?

  • Fast ausschliesslich, es sei denn ich moechte einen Sound ohne Rimshot, aber das kommt nicht haeufig vor.

  • awesome set and sound!!!

  • im so glad i clicked on this video, im gonna have so much fun with this

  • I really want to fit an aux snare but play with open hands so am struggling to find where to put it HAHA!!

    it sucks

love playing paradiddles in drum and bass though,it makes so much sense, took a while for me to get my head round slotting in extra kicks with the odd hand patterns!

great channel though, what you are saying is really sound and your technique seems top notch too...

    nice one

  • Thanks a lot, I appreciate your comment :-) Cheers Ydna

  • genial

  • O.O 2:54

  • can i say in hte fucking pocket

  • what kind of snare is it the one on your left?

I´m looking for a sharp and penetrating sound, kindof what that snare sounds like....

  • The snare to my far left is my Sonor Jungle Trash Snare, there's a video on my channel featuring this snare, check it out. The other one is a 10" Mapex Black Panther

  • Hello,

I wish i could play like you. Thats real tallent and practice too. Im subscribing! and sending thumbs up .

    greetings from slovakia

  • Thanks :-)

    Cheers from Canada!

  • @juroSS4 co ti na tomhle prijde jako talent, zasedni za bicí a zahraješ to za pár tejdnů/měsíců !

  • This Is Wut I Looked For! Thankies ;DD

  • what type of hi hat is this?

  • That's a 13" Zildijan K

  • What's that little bell on the Sabian Chopper?

  • That's a cracked crash cymbal I cut down to the bell, it adds another sound I can use. It doesn't affect the sound of the chopper cymbal.

  • that was....so useful!!O_O

    tnx :D

  • You're welcome :-))

  • genial¡¡¡

jaja nunca se me hubiera ocurrido¡¡

    eres muy muy bueno

  • Langsam kapier ich wie wichtig Ghost Notes wirklich sind! ^^

  • Thumbs Up For Best High Hat Accents On YouTube!

  • Alright, thanks mate :-))

  • Fantastic videos, i just wanted to know what sticks you use?

  • Thanks you :-)) I use NOVA Sticks made by Vic Firth. Cheap sticks, but I like them.

  • that is pearl mmx maple 4mm shell i think?!?!.put emperor coated on top and clear ambasador bottom.you are great man!!!!!!!

  • Thanks mate :-) Yeah, that's the set I have. It sound great with many different heads, the ones I use at the moment are Remo Powerstroke 3's.

    Cheers

    Ydna

  • Hey!!

Thx for all the lesson, really great!!!

1 Question, what kinda clamp are u using for your snare.. ? Because I'm searching for a clamp just like that, right on the hihat-stand...

    Thanks,

    Gerlof

  • Hi Gerlof, I use a regular/straight multi-clamp. I think the Snare holder used to belong to my Remo drumset which fits the size of the Mapex brand.

    Cheers

    Ydna

  • He man,

love all your vids! And every time I'm amazed by the sound of your main hi hat! It sound great! What model is it exactly? Also that sound of the 10" snare is beautiful!

    Keep up the good work!

  • Thanx for the kind words :-) The Hi-Hat is a 13" Zildijan K and the 10" Snare is a Mapex Black Panther.

    Cheers

    Ydna

  • @Jungleritter Thanks for the reply! Keep up the good work! I might also pick up a 13" hi-hats sometimes... 14'' just can be a little to much sometimes. Also the combination of a 10" and 14" snares seems to work verry well... I somtimes combine 13" and 14" ones, but are not always happy with the result...

    Greetings!

  • This reminds me of the song... Rolling by Soul Coughing (Awesome)

  • Is that a sabian chopper with a bell on it? 0.o

  • Yeah, that´s what it is. The bell is a custom cut formerly broken crash cymbal, it doesn´t add to the sound of the chopper but I use it sometimes instead of playing on the hi-hat.

  • @Mrdrumer0000 its a X-hat

  • I finally am able to play this, looks easier than it really is when you see it here... This is one REAL funky beat

  • That´s awesome! Post it on youtube if you have the chance, would love to watch it :-)

    Cheers

    Ydna Murd

  • Here ya go Zach!

  • If anybody would like to learn some more advanced drum & Bass playing just search JOJO MAYER he is God on a drum set... not fucking around here

  • What is that little "snare looking" thingy on the very left that you dont play in the video?

  • That´s my Sonor Trash Snare. You can look up one of my videos with the title "Sonor Trash Snare" on my channel, this custom build snare drum is featured there.

    Cheers

    Ydna

  • What is that little "snare looking" thingy on the very left that you dont play in the video?

  • I used to produce drum&bass on my workstation and the one thing that I can tell you is that your tiny snare drum sounds just like the "Amen break snare". What a good way to approach drum&bass! Good drumming by the way!

  • Thanks for your comment, I really appreciate it :-))

  • he looks like edward norton out of Fight Club

  • You´re not the first one saying that, I think I have to watch that movie again, I can´t remember the role he was playing :-))

  • @Jungleritter he was the main character besides brad pitt

  • what brand of cymbal is that next to your hi-hats?

  • That´s a 10" Chopper Effect Cymbal made by Sabian

  • I'm guitar player but i can see here master playing and also a lot of heart putted in these vids:) paradiddles sounds great on snare toms and also on double foot in the central drum :P ( i don't know how it's named in english, sorry , the biggest one:D ) Greetings from Poland

  • Thanks for the kind words :-)) The big drum is called Bass Drum or Kick Drum by the way.

    Cheers from Canada

    Ydna

  • @Jungleritter lol good shit man when i was in drum line at my high school we did a lot of Paradiddles my drum instructor loved em along with para diddle diddles like a lot of our music like our cadence music was a lot of that

  • What is the point of the paradiddle here? The hihat figure is a simple string of 16th notes, why not just simply alternate hand it? Or is he using a controlled bounce that bounces exactly on the 16th notes portions of the beat, in order to save energy and eliminate motion?

  • The paradiddle sticking will always sound different unless you´re playing like a machine, so it gives the string of 16th´s a slightly different feel. But the main reason to use it are the possibilities of moving some of the strokes on different sound sources like the additional snare drum. It simply opens a lot of doors.

    Cheers

    Ydna Murd

  • @Jungleritter Thanx for the reply. However at that speed, playing 16ths on consecutive hits with one hand very difficult. Is it a controlled bounce that hits in time?

I definitely can hear a sonic difference in a RRLR pattern, I want to incorporate things like this into my MIDI. But it's the speed thing that still hangs me up. Like I say, very difficult to intentionally hit 16ths with one hand at that speed, there has to be some bouncing going on.

  • Yes, that´s right. Drummers use two different techniques to produce fast doubles. In this case I was using a bounce. That means that the second stroke of the double is a bounced stroke, the first is a regular stroke.

  • GOTA LOVE PARADIDDLES!

  • What snare is that? sounds really good

  • The main is a Brady and the side snare is a 10" Mapex Black Panther.

  • @Jungleritter ah thank you

  • This is so great! thankyou! :D

  • Glad you like it, thanks!!

  • Hi, what hi-hat do you use? thx

  • @Jungleritter Broken crash cymbal? You must play hard, awesome!
