Dude, I am not saying metal isn't awesome, but I am saying that funk and hip hop require more skills for the drummer. Trust me I love metal, but it is simple to play on the drums.

Just something to think about now instead of later, get in to funk, look up drummers like John Blackwell, Rodney Holmes, Brian Frazier-Moore. Trust me I've been playing since I was 3, and I wish I would have gotten into funk and hip hop drummers instead of rock and metal, you will not regret getting into them

Its actually easier to learn when your younger so i see this as nothing... i taught my lil 10 year old cousin how to play his first couple of basic beats. He took it upon himself and learned to listen to beats and play them out. And its only been like about a year and he plays better then me... and i start playing a year before him. LOL

But yea it definitely is a good start. keep playing and you'll be dope.
