Stock Boss DS-1 vs Keeley SEM vs Analogman Pro Mod

@rbigeard: First off, thanks for your vids. They're very consistent which helps a lot. I was wondering how little gain the Analogman DS-1/Pro can produce with a Strat with the 'DIST' knob on 0? Is it in OD-3 land or is it already pretty heavy? Thanks!

@TheRealRayJ With the dist know on 0, it is in overdrive territory i.e. not so heavy. It's a pretty good "blues" sound

The keeley mod sounds clearer and for some reason the stock seems compressed but real dirty.

IMO the stock version sounds best. Much better dynamics than on others versions. Strange huh?

@Preludiumi Well it goes to show you that tastes differ and that to some people the stock version sounds better. Personally my favorite is the Analogman.

I dunno if you've ever listened to the Incesticide album, and I understand that it seems pretty stupid to be talking about tone chasing in terms of Nirvana, but there's a sound that Cobain gets on a few of those tracks that I love. I've never heard guitar tone described this way before, but if I think of it as human voice, it seems like most basic distorted tones come from the back of the mouth. On a few tracks, it sounds like Cobain gets more "front of the mouth" tones. How?

Finally someone that can get a good sound out of a ds 1even the stock mode! I have the stock version and i like it but I can only use it with the tone pretty low (under 11 hours). I tend to use the tone pretty low to avoid the harsh of the pedal, so sometimes it gets to dark. Do you think that the keeley mod will help? I like my pedal but I dont love it, i think it's a pretty basic distortion. Do you think that i will get a more organic, powerful and fuller sound with the keeley mod? Cheers

@miguelpessanha Hi, yes the Keeley mod or the Analogman mod (my favorite, more "organic") would help. I have written a comparison of DS-1 mods on my website (address at the beginning and end of the video).
