The only reason why I bought a macbook was simple:
I needed a good, stable Audio DAW program, and Logic Pro was the thing to me. It is great for the live records, also for the every other genre out there.
And that is, well, only for a mac.
Though I've never experienced anything what that guy is talking about.
@wearfear Logic pro isn't available for Windows. Do some research before writing. Ableton was way too unstable for the live performance, so don't mention anything about that. FL Studio is just a toy. Cubase... well... quite okay, but still too weak for the live performance.
It was a good choice to move into a mac, man. It's all been more stable and faster to operate things in the musical side.
@bconover93 It's pretty much of a toy compared to the bigger DAW's as like Ableton, Logic Studio, Cubase and whatnot. Unexperienced people can do stuff with it easily, though it doesn't give enough stablity for live performance and overall projects.

I hate macs because its a fucking over priced piece of shit with $1199 (the price of the lowest priced imac) i get 4gb ram, a keyboard and mouse, intel i5, 500gb hdd, and 512mb vram. I can get a pc at the exact same price and get intel core i7, 8gb ram, 2tb(2000gb) hdd, 2gb vram, a moniter with extremely high resolution, and a gaming keyboard and mouse. And dont get me started on the $5000 mac pro, I could make a custom built pc thats 20x faster at the exact same price and WITH a fucking moniter

It may have been better and more advantageous to figure out why you were putting so much money into your PC. Bear in mind that Apple sells significantly less Macs than PCs. Naturally you will see fewer reports of quality issues, but Apple has been struck several times with class action lawsuits for poor quality Macbooks and iMacs. What brand of PC did you buy? All it takes is the wrong one. Building one yourself or having a third-party do it for you is far, far better than a Mac.

Alienware is not your best bet for computers, my friend. They're basically like Apple in terms of overcharging. Consider checking out ASUS or MSI for laptops, and for desktops either build yourself, or go with a custom third party like iBuyPower. You'll be happy you did.

No, they're not. In fact, Apple's involvement within the entertainment industry is minimal at best . Final Cut Pro is not widely used. In fact, Avid and Adobe software is used MUCH more extensively in the industry because of their versatility. Final Cut Pro X received a dismal reception and has sold very poorly. Apple just came out and said they were going to get rid of the Mac Pro entirely because of the horrible sales figures they've been suffering for years.

Agreed. I've always given praise to the iPhone for delivering on exactly what it promises. The feverish, obsessive hype over the device is quite frankly frightening, but it's a solid product that really does its job well. From a corporate standpoint, it's utterly useless and loathed, but from a regular consumer standpoint, it's dead on. Mac computers are just fine, make no mistake, but until Apple starts pricing realistically, they'll always have single-digit market share.
I use my Mac because im a audio engineer and video editor, and Macs and their programs are standard in that industry. Anyway, I have never experienced any of the problems this guy is talking about, dont know what's wrong with his Mac.....
I think "their programs" that you refer to are the same as any other program available for PC. Contrary to popular belief, Final Cut Pro is NOT that widely used. Premiere Pro and Avid comprise the bulk of video editing software, and both are PC-enabled. More companies use Nuke for compositing as well. Audio engineering? All done on PC as well with no difference, but far, far more versatility and choice in terms of hardware and software. Mac does nothing better.
@MaestroDraven I think you misunderstood me. I'm not saying that a PC is not capable of doing any of that, but that the Mac OS is a standard in those fields. Even if i did all that on a PC, I would still need to know how to use Mac OS if I was to walk in any recording studio and use the rig. Most high rate studios run on Mac, thats a fact. Like I said, not that the PC cant do those things, its just there is no use for me to do all my work on a platform that isnt mostly used in that profession.
That's true, but it all comes down to the programs. One can learn the OSX environment in a matter of hours, if less. The only difference is working under either a DOS-like directory structure or a UNIX directory structure. Similar yet different. Studios use Macs because somewhere along the line it became fashionable to do so, and that's it. They do nothing inherently better, faster or more efficient, but end up narrowing a company's profit margins through costs.

I actually have nothing against the Mac and I think it makes a great workstation. I too have thought about having a dedicated center for audio and video editing. My problem stems from inherent costs. I once decked out a 12-Core Mac Pro on Apple's site, and it came to an astounding $10,000 dollars. By contrast, I began pricing out the precise same hardware via SR-2 classified config and the price topped off at just under $6000. That's perhaps my only roadblock.
I have an iMac and it was a complete waste of $2000. The operating system was designed for down syndrome children and it lags when you render a 5 second video.

We know a Mac is a PC, and that Windows is an OS and not a "PC" but the market penetration of Windows has made "PC" mean "PC running Windows" to most.

@MKBEntertainment My Mac outperforms my Windows box, despite my Windows box having superior hardware. I get more done in less time on my Mac, it's less of a headache to use and I don't have to waste my time doing crap to keep it working properly, I just use it. With my PC I have to run a virus scan now and then and defrag and keep the registry in check, and have to live with the slow down from simply using it.

@MKBEntertainment Synthetic benchmarks don't mean shit. I get more done on OSX than Windows in the same amount of time, using the same software. It's designed better for more efficient workflows, and not having to fuck around making sure I run maintenance every week means I can spend more time actually doing things, rather than then wasting my time sorting it out. I've been using PC's for 20 years, I finally had enough of Windows a couple of years ago and got a Mac. I've been very happy since.
Your wrong, benchmarks for rendering 3dmark etc. they give the general performance of a computer. Render time on similar hardware. mac/pc same. However PCs have better hardware. OCZ drives allows of huge iops and massive write speed. If performance is same per clock, overclocking would allow PCs to outperform macs and stay cooler while being at it. I find running adobe products faster because of that. There are tons of benchmarks they are not there just for show.
20 years or not.... The choice for me is clear. PCs because of flexibility and the massive amount of applications available. There may be apps specificity designed to give a performance boost, however, you can only get so far. Because of that your stuck with their hardware and software. Its much easier for apple. And btw I don;t need to run much maintenance, only really need to clean dust that manages to get past the washable filter onto the heat sink

But if you get what you need to do done on Windows then great, it's a tool for a job. But the fact will remains that flexibility and staying away from limitations wil always result in a faster computer. I just brought up the 2TB figure since its something with windows. And whats the point of OSX being able to address all that but don't have the hardware to be able to do it? Games simply want 4GB+ ram raw speed low latency. no ECC required/high clock speed

There's more to life than playing fucking games and spending vast amounts of money on a rig just for that is more of a waste of money than buying a Mac to actually do WORK on. If you want scalability and efficiency, look at the Mac Pro line, hell, look at the HP Z Series or Dell Precisions.

I hate macs because its a fucking over priced piece of shit with $1199 (the price of the lowest priced imac) i get 4gb ram, a keyboard and mouse, intel i5, 500gb hdd, and 512mb vram. I can get a pc at the exact same price and get intel core i7, 8gb ram, 2tb(2000gb) hdd, 2gb vram, a moniter with extremely high resolution, and a gaming keyboard and mouse. And dont get me started on the $5000 mac pro, I could make a custom built pc thats 20x faster at the exact same price and WITH a fucking moniter

It may have been better and more advantageous to figure out why you were putting so much money into your PC. Bear in mind that Apple sells significantly less Macs than PCs. Naturally you will see fewer reports of quality issues, but Apple has been struck several times with class action lawsuits for poor quality Macbooks and iMacs. What brand of PC did you buy? All it takes is the wrong one. Building one yourself or having a third-party do it for you is far, far better than a Mac.

@OccupationFront actually you can just buy a mac pro for 10.000+ dollars. Those are used as an industry standard for Hollywood film animations. The secret actually stands in the OS: Adobe and Apple have been working together since 98 to make things run really good on the Mac OS. And you get the Final Cut Pro which is way above anything out there in terms of video editing... Btw, I'm not defending the Mac, just don't like it when people don't research before making statements

No, they're not. In fact, Apple's involvement within the entertainment industry is minimal at best . Final Cut Pro is not widely used. In fact, Avid and Adobe software is used MUCH more extensively in the industry because of their versatility. Final Cut Pro X received a dismal reception and has sold very poorly. Apple just came out and said they were going to get rid of the Mac Pro entirely because of the horrible sales figures they've been suffering for years.

Agreed. I've always given praise to the iPhone for delivering on exactly what it promises. The feverish, obsessive hype over the device is quite frankly frightening, but it's a solid product that really does its job well. From a corporate standpoint, it's utterly useless and loathed, but from a regular consumer standpoint, it's dead on. Mac computers are just fine, make no mistake, but until Apple starts pricing realistically, they'll always have single-digit market share.

I think "their programs" that you refer to are the same as any other program available for PC. Contrary to popular belief, Final Cut Pro is NOT that widely used. Premiere Pro and Avid comprise the bulk of video editing software, and both are PC-enabled. More companies use Nuke for compositing as well. Audio engineering? All done on PC as well with no difference, but far, far more versatility and choice in terms of hardware and software. Mac does nothing better.

@MaestroDraven I think you misunderstood me. I'm not saying that a PC is not capable of doing any of that, but that the Mac OS is a standard in those fields. Even if i did all that on a PC, I would still need to know how to use Mac OS if I was to walk in any recording studio and use the rig. Most high rate studios run on Mac, thats a fact. Like I said, not that the PC cant do those things, its just there is no use for me to do all my work on a platform that isnt mostly used in that profession.

That's true, but it all comes down to the programs. One can learn the OSX environment in a matter of hours, if less. The only difference is working under either a DOS-like directory structure or a UNIX directory structure. Similar yet different. Studios use Macs because somewhere along the line it became fashionable to do so, and that's it. They do nothing inherently better, faster or more efficient, but end up narrowing a company's profit margins through costs.

PCs are by no means bad. The rest of my house has 2 other PCs running on Windows 7, and those 2 are mostly used by my little nieces and brother for personal needs. I just prefer to do my hardcore video/audio editing on my mac

I actually have nothing against the Mac and I think it makes a great workstation. I too have thought about having a dedicated center for audio and video editing. My problem stems from inherent costs. I once decked out a 12-Core Mac Pro on Apple's site, and it came to an astounding $10,000 dollars. By contrast, I began pricing out the precise same hardware via SR-2 classified config and the price topped off at just under $6000. That's perhaps my only roadblock.

@MyRott2009 PC has become a generic term associated with a brand, kind of the opposite of a brand becoming associated with a generic item, like Kleenex in the US relates to tissues, or a Sharpie means a marker pen and so on. Mac is a brand of PC, it's to distinguish itself from what has become what most people see it as, "Windows box". We know a Mac is a PC, and that Windows is an OS and not a "PC" but the market penetration of Windows has made "PC" mean "PC running Windows" to most.

I get more done in less time on my Mac, it's less of a headache to use and I don't have to waste my time doing crap to keep it working properly, I just use it. With my PC I have to run a virus scan now and then and defrag and keep the registry in check, and have to live with the slow down from simply using it.

@MKBEntertainment Synthetic benchmarks don't mean shit. I get more done on OSX than Windows in the same amount of time, using the same software. It's designed better for more efficient workflows, and not having to fuck around making sure I run maintenance every week means I can spend more time actually doing things, rather than then wasting my time sorting it out. I've been using PC's for 20 years, I finally had enough of Windows a couple of years ago and got a Mac. I've been very happy since.

Your wrong, benchmarks for rendering 3dmark etc. they give the general performance of a computer. Render time on similar hardware. mac/pc same. However PCs have better hardware. OCZ drives allows of huge iops and massive write speed. If performance is same per clock, overclocking would allow PCs to outperform macs and stay cooler while being at it. I find running adobe products faster because of that. There are tons of benchmarks they are not there just for show.

20 years or not.... The choice for me is clear. PCs because of flexibility and the massive amount of applications available. There may be apps specificity designed to give a performance boost, however, you can only get so far. Because of that your stuck with their hardware and software. Its much easier for apple. And btw I don;t need to run much maintenance, only really need to clean dust that manages to get past the washable filter onto the heat sink

There's more to life than playing fucking games and spending vast amounts of money on a rig just for that is more of a waste of money than buying a Mac to actually do WORK on. If you want scalability and efficiency, look at the Mac Pro line, hell, look at the HP Z Series or Dell Precisions.
