The thing with balut especially for a beginner is to eat the yolk and drink the soup first. Then later on progress to the actual duck. The yolk tastes like a richer chicken egg yolk while the soup tastes like roasted chicken broth. The duck may be offputting because of the texture, but the taste isn't that bad especially with salt.

Hi, I'm from the Philippines. Eating balut is really a learned experience and if you do that often, you will actually find balut delicious. It would be best to eat it with rock salt and not the iodized one. Also, I know this will make you a bit squeamish, but you have to eat it more slowly and in manageable bites.

I was never able to talk myself into eating balut while the Philippines. It's probably just another mental block that needs to be worked through. Keep up the good work.
