ball wasn't unplayable, but definitely unplayable from the position the batsmen was in. no foot movement and trapped inside the crease, horrid batting. Not saying it wasn't a ripping ball, but the ball was made too look a lot better by the terrible batting technique. One of the best umpiring decisions you will ever see too.
I am from Pakistan, and I would like to say that the people of Pakistan really admire Dale Steyn for his extra-ordinary talent. We really believe that good players must be appreciated irrespective of the nation they belong to.
@frodho685 england cant play on slow wickets and pakisran can so pakistan have the advantage and if pakistran lose test series 3-1 they will still go up in the rankings so im happy
@frodho685 well England's SEAMERS will have no affect in UAE when the face Pakistan. England can't play on slow wickets as we saw in the world cup and right now in India but Pakistan are almost unbeatable
@007611007611 as good as they are on their day, Pakistan are always liable to embarrassing themselves. They're beating a feeble SL at the moment but they're gonna struggle against the consistency of England's bowler's lengths. England's ODI team is a joke, ignore that, but Andy Flower and co. take tests dead seriously.
@frodho685 england cant play on slow wickets and pakisran can so pakistan have the advantage and if pakistran lose test series 3-1 they will still go up in the rankings so im happy
@frodho685 also sl side is not feeble and even if they are its the same side england beat 1-0 on HOME grounds, i would say pakistan batsmen are commin in form and pakistan bowlers are just gud
@007611007611 basically rain stopped SL losing all 3 tests. Pak bowlers are high class but they're missing Amir and Asif. The batting is OK on its day I guess, but it was a joke when Pakistan came to England.
@007611007611 pakistan bowlers are the best. because they have excellent strike rates on flat pitches unlike steyn who's strike rate is aided by bowler friendly pitches in south africa. but he's worldclass. i think people underate the fast bowlers from subcontinent forgetting that they dont have seaming or bouncy pitches. for eg chaminda vaas, umar gul, aamir and many more. james anderson is overated. he looks like the best swing bowler because his home conditions are seamer friendly.
As a supporter of India and watching the two series against South Africa and England very closely, it's obvious that Steyn and Morkel are heads and shoulders above the supposed "vaunted English attack" including Anderson. Steyn's just a beast
@frodho685 We had a settled and well prepared side that went to South africa, Too much shit happened during the england series. But England edge the bowling department as south africa dont have a third bowler and a good spinner
@frodho685 different Indian teams, conditions, and prep. I could point out that India played better in SA than England did, but I'm just trying to judge these bowlers on consistency and ability to discomfort batsmen. No one extracts more pace & bounce than Morkel and no one is better at swinging it both ways w/ pace than Steyn. FTR, only Lax and Sachin were able to play the two well in SA. Don't feel slighted, Ind & SA totally lack the depth England has. Depth, not individuals, make great sides
@shutuprafa yes it swings here and India's resolve to play the swinging ball was pathetic but Anderson is the best swing bowler in the world by a mile don't forget Swann the best spinner in the world. I will concede that Finn and Tremlett can't extract as much bounce as Morkel but they're both in the top 15-ish in the world like the rest of our attack.
@frodho685 I consider Steyn a swing bowler, albeit with a lot of pace. He's much more consistent than Anderson and his strike rate is insane. Yeah Finn and JT are solid top 15. I was just mocking your media's hyping of the English attack as nearly all-time great. Swann's very good, but has a lot to prove. If he developed a better top-spinner, he'd have me fully sold. He gets his wickets from sliders and offbreaks, but his arm-ball is easy to pick since it's the one that doesn't drift.
@shutuprafa Umm excuse me but Swann's the best spinner in the world, alright he's no Murali but he's better than Tahir and that joke Harris that went before him. So England have the better spinner. Also Anderson, when its swinging, is the best bowler in the world its just accepted. Also bowlers like Tsotsobe don't convince me whereas Bres, Tremmers and Finn are all top class.
@frodho685 Tahir has just started. Harris? (lol). Bresnan, JT, and Finn are top 15. Outside the English bubble, Steyn gets more respect (his strike rate is just amazing). I know everyone hates on Bhajji, but he's a proven bowler who has picked up 400. Swann has a killer slider while Bhajji has the better topper. They both have equally good offbreaks and armballs but Bhajji's armball is harder to pick. I expect batsmen to wisen up to Swann soon and play horizontal or off the backfoot a la Dravid
@shutuprafa ok so you think Swann will be figured out like Monty but Swann's gone on too long to be the new kid on the block, he's just a class act. Also England are way more consistent bowlers than SA for example bowling India out twice on a flat Lord's wicket. Our bowlers are not as eye catching as Dale Steyn but together they do a much better, more professional job than SA.
@frodho685 No, Swann is way better than Monty. Monty was never impressive in my opinion. Swann's got real potential and I hope he continues to develop his game. I can't remember another finger spinner with as good of a slider as Swann. England's attack is better and deeper than South Africa's on the whole. I'll still take Morkel and Steyn over Anderson, Tremlett, Bresnan, Finn. Until I see Tahir in action, SA has no spinner. And Tsotsobe's inexperience makes him worse than England's four pacemen
@shutuprafa Well on their day any of our bowlers are more than a match for Steyn and certainly Morkel. I'm not so convinced about Morkel, he hasn't quite got the experience of Steyn. A diehard SA fan told my friend that at the moment England will have no trouble beating SA which i didn't take as a slight at our bowlers. Our bowlers have been showing up the likes of Australia and India and will do against SA, so they deserve more respect abroad.
@shutuprafa Well on their day any of our bowlers are more than a match for Steyn and certainly Morkel. I'm not so convinced about Morkel, he hasn't quite got the experience of Steyn. Our bowlers have been showing up the likes of Australia and India and will do against SA, so they deserve more respect abroad.
@shutuprafa I see what you mean about how England's attack is definitely not legendary.... But the subcontinent has always been the test for overseas bowling attacks. Even the 80's WI weren't very effective there.
@frodho685 Yeah...I'm just mocking the English media in making the point that while English team is the best, they're not creeping up to Australia/WI status any time soon. SA has scarier weapons but England's a deeper team, and that counts for more. And no, I don't think India proved anything in those 5 meaningless ODIs either
@shutuprafa yep, England are just fiddling about here with some young talent in the top/middle order, I've come to ignore our ODI exploits, its clear they're not being taken as seriously as the tests. Our no.7 is always a good example of this, its always this bowler who can occassionly do something good, and with a lackluster top 6 we stand no chance against the world ODI champions.
@geoblocks3 frodho and I already sorted it out; SA has the two best bowlers but England has the deeper attack. I have no idea what you're saying; who are the ragamuffins and what does it mean to not be able to play a team on a blue tit?
@shutuprafa well a ragamuffin is a pitch that turns a lot and has little in it for the seamers. And we just can't seem to be able to play them on a blue tit! We've had enough of Sehwag and co. demolishing us on them.
the reason they got so angry, was because they had Tendulkar out in the first over of the day caught behind, but given not out, and i think they had 2 more edges given not out (the review system wasn't being used) before this so they were pretty angry. This time they were wrong so they look like spoilt kids carrying on like that but i can kinda understand why they were upset
lost of alot of respect for steyn after watching this.. always knew smith was a callous/arrogant man.. but they way steyn carried on, and it wasnt even out! terrible, hope he was reprimanded, anyone know?
Ian Gould is a very, very good umpire. His ability to distinguish between bat-pad, bat-boot, bat-ground and bat-on-leather sounds is as good as any other umpire's I've seen. Also a fine pair of eyes the man has.
What a lovely ball!!!!!!!!!!!!! Invitting the front foot drive just to swing away from the right hander at the last moment...... Should have been out but was not to be.....
