hi there. the book Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand is a cornerstone of conservative thought in 20th century America. Rand advocated a manifesto of self-interest that meant: focus on yourself and let the poor and the ignorant die away. No need to feel sorry for them or to help them. It's very much in keeping with most of the GOP attitude. Hope that helps.

@jayboy60Helping others is admirable but to mandate charity takes the choice away from people who have their money taken from them for this. Then you have no choice as to where the money goes, this includes government expansion of their own purses. We have to tighten our belts for government to expand theirs and they are already wealthy by inheritance, then their salaries, then bribes etc, and still take more from us before we ever get paid.

Fear not, brave conservative! I have an idea for our next grassroots movement. This summer we should all gather in Washington DC in protest. piney - the fact is that almost everyone at these teabagging protests is getting a tax cut but they are being rallied to believe the opposite. so its not wrong to protest excessive taxation, but its like people protesting a cut in defense spending when defense spending is slated to INCREASE.
