  • btw, my LCD monitor was bought 1 year ago for 200 euros, so I guess I wouldn't blame it.

  • I just got both these, component cable and the HDbox, and it blows hard for some reason. First of all, my LCD monitor doesn't play any sound, so I had to connect the audio cables to my sound monitors. Then, the graphics are somewhat blurry and a bit pixelized, so what the heck did I buy these things for..? No clue.

  • Thanks to you I got a flat panel TV for $40.

  • does this work on a laptop?

  • easy all you do is get a 3 rca female to vga

  • @chonisn Hi, they're made by Edifier.

  • nice vs in the background.. or vr

  • OH MY GOD. I wish i could do this! I need an HD screen for my Wii

  • Dam it i really need one unfortunately cant find these here on portugal is there another similar product?

  • My monitor only has one VGA output...is there anyway I can change this to accommodate my wii as well as my computer?

  • where's the audio cable goes to??

  • Or you can just use a tv and save money.

  • so you have to buy a bunch of shit great

  • surely you can just connect the wii to the monitor, using a vga - rca cable?? not using the box? soz i'm a noob

  • @coolycool3000 well no, Vga-rca is both male ended, you can use a rca female to vga male converter and you can do that! (=3

  • how did he get the sound??

  • I see your monitor si 16:10 , i've got a 16:9 with 1920 x 1080 resolution, will it work?

  • @Mirceabv19 Im guessing it will work better :P

  • i was thinking of getting a vga to scart cable. Connecting the scart bit to the games console with a female to female scart joiner and the vga bit to the computer moniter. Do you think that would work? or a vga to s video cable, should be able to do the same thing right?

  • Hello. First I would like to say thanks for the video, it is very helpful.

But I have one problem. I got everything setup and it looks great. Not stretched or anything at all. Only problem is there is no color.

It's black and white and I am not sure what to do. I have just the VGA out going to the VGA spot on my Samsung monitor. So I'm not sure if that was the right cable or if I am supposed to get another cable.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

  • we have the same monitor:D

  • How close can you play towards the LCD? I'm about 2 feet away.

    Thanks in advance.

  • Not to be weird or anything, but... What's the point of doing this? Why not plug the component cable straight to the TV?

  • @xdlugia1 It's not a TV, it's a large computer monitor.

  • @mandatorydistraction Ahaaaaa......... A Computer Screen?

  • Is there one you can get from like Dick Smith or something?

    (HD Box pro or similar)

Or can you just get some little cable adapters?

    How much btw?

  • Is there one you can get from like Dick Smith or something?

    (HD Box pro or similar)

Or can you just get some little cable adapters/

  • very nice tutorial. i'm gonna get the HD Box Pro.

  • a no mames todo eso se ocupa q pendejo

  • I guess I don't see the use or value in the hdboxpro. You can get a used tv on craigslist or some pawn shop that will not just be cheaper, but it will also be larger than your monitor (a majority of the time) and you can get it in a few hours instead of however long it might take to ship something from a place like hong kong or even in the same country.

  • my hd box pro suddenly flashes reg/green when i turn it on, no video

  • Very clear explanation, very good camera shots and very A to B

  • does it damage the screen at all after sometime for wii use or ordnary computer use or it will be in its same qualty it has been before the wii was first pluged in?

  • Does it work with ps3 aswell?

  • @ExtremeO1

    works with every console

  • What's the D'nB track mate?

  • @FeeLtheHertZ First song is Alien by Footloose, second track mixed in is Disturbed by Tonic. These are from "The Drum and Bass Rinse Out" album, mixed by Phantom 45.

  • Is there any way to make the output take up the entire screen?

I have a 23.6" acer monitor with a max resolution of 1920x1080. The Wii is set to widescreen, and the HD Box is set to 1920x1080 and "Full" (it does not give 16:9 as an option when set to 1920x1080). But still there is a noticeable black bar around all four edges of the output. It wont use all the space.

Also, doesn't the HD Box Pro claim to upscale everything to 1080p? Why does it always say 480p when I check the display settings?

  • do gamecube games work well?

  • @TheJeffnik

I'm sure Gamecube games will work as well. It just makes sense because this is about connecting your Wii to an LCD monitor. Whether or not you're playing a Wii game or a Gamecube games doesn't make a difference, it all just comes down to the Wii sending the signal to the LCD monitor.

  • You can get sound from dvi with this?? I can use it with my Acer 7741 laptop right?

  • dude I'm using a laptop cq40 and i used the hdboxpro and somehow i don't have the remote. can I still play the platstation 2 on my laptop screen? much appreciated if you can find the cause of this problem.

  • what is the price of everything together

  • @abdelrahim123

    100 max

  • how much does the HDBox cost?

  • @mruppel2 go to their website and see what the current cost is.

  • @Prizm4 Link pls?

  • how about ps3? the yellow cable is suppose to go to the green input right?

  • Hmm I hooked up everything, I get sound at least. But I can't see anything. I plug the blue vga cable that usually plugs into my pc into the HD Box Pro instead. The output, correct? Either way, I'm not getting any signal. When I switch my monitor to analogue, it switches back to digital. Any idea what's wrong?

  • Yo props on getting the HD Box Pro - EASILY, from what I've found, the BEST Component to VGA converter out there. Where did you buy it from? The official HD box pro website? BEAUTIFUL picture man!

Also what PC speakers are those?

YO what Drum n Bass track was playing? sounded sick.

  • There are tons of "Component video to VGA converters" , or even component video to HDMI converters on EBAY. The sound can be converted to digital HDMI and sounds better on the latter.

  • To the people addressing the sound, I'm pretty sure you just plug in the LR split component cables in to the HD Box Pro, and then connect Speakers/Headphones to the "Audio Out" on the Box - the sound should work.

  • @PolarPuberty This is correct. The HD Box Pro already supports sound. Once you've plugged in all the component cables (including the two audio ones), just run your speaker cable to the audio jack on the HD Box Pro.

Or just get a jack-to-jack audio cable, and run from the HD Box to your PC Line-In. That way you don't have to keep unplugging your PC speakers whenever you want to use the Wii.

  • can someone please tell me how i can plug my speakers in?

  • i recently got a VGA to component cable and thought if i just connected the two video cables together it would work but it doesnt.. the other thing is that the component cables that it came with were red green and blue and i wasnt sure if that made a difference or not. any ideas?

  • and wherte do you get generic stuff

  • hey with this (the HD box) can i hook my computer up to my tv

  • were does the audio come from the converter box.

  • how much in dollars?

  • It's $55 dollars american

  • HD Box looks like a bigger version of the IPod Shuffle. Thumbs Up if you think so

  • but is the quality HD?

    I mean 480p or 480i ?

  • If it's quality you want, you should get a scaler, they are only £1,000

You should be able to get a RGB to HDMI/DVI/VGA converter cable, and that should indeed be cheaper. And running the signal through a component cable just makes the quality a bit worse :D

  • thanks for posting this, helpful. God bless

  • I have seen some folks with widescreen LCDs use the Vdigi style cables in widescreen mode. I guess it all depends on how your monitor handles 480p.. but if the Wii output 720x480 and not 640x480 I guess it would be fine.. I'm about to order a cable and find out . I would get the HD Box Pro but I'm trying to do this on the cheap! :)

  • Also be sure to change from 480i to 480p in the Wii settings, if that option is available.

  • thanks very helpful

  • how does the sound work

    plz answer

is in the hd box pro or?

  • whats the button on your moniter that you pressed?

  • can I use this HD box to connect a ps2 slim to ta tft monitor?

  • @krispsa yes

  • Sorry if this question has already been answered, but does the HD Box contribute to the notorious input lag issue?

  • why do u use the box and not only the cable? wii supports VGA.

  • note the HDBox isnt HD (high definition)

  • I attached my video as a response. I reviewed the HIGH-BOX component to VGA adapter.

  • i connect the wii to my tv but its not in colour :S so i have to use it on my tv down stairs but the down side to that is that i cant use it all the time because my family watch tv. and also when i try to connect the wii to my tv there is a thing in the way so i cant plug it in, so i have to use the serperate cables, that is what i think the problem is.

  • @rumblyblu no colour means you're either plugging it into the wrong sockets or you're using the wrong type of cable.

  • @rumblyblu You are probaly plugging the yellow (RCA aka "composite" video) to the green "COMPONENT" video input, so you will get B&W pic.

  • what do you think about the xcm 1080p vga box? should i buy it to display the wii signal on my monitor? (i found it at a low price, somewhere around 33$, used) Should i buy it?(I don't think i can afford anything else..)

  • what about the sound? how will that work out?

  • seems very good, but which is better when comparing with the cable VD-W3? do you know ? lol cool man ?

  • If I were to hook up my Xbox 360 to my crt monitor using the HD Box Pro would the picture quality be the same as using the official vga cables?

  • The picture quality will be the same if you already have a VGA cable for the 360.

  • IS there any input lag for this? I mean, when you push a button, do you have to watch it go through the cable and then pop up on your monitor like on most traditional HDTVs? Or does it respond automatically like a normal tube TV would?

  • Does that remote ever run out of battery life?

  • Even Project64:

    watch?v=S46s8rLtbJA

  • Sorry for not clarifying; I was referring to the resolutions that Dolphin supports.

  • cooliscool - yes, Dolphin supports any resolution that your monitor outputs. But there's only a few games that can take advantage of 720p. Just because your monitor support 1080p doesn't mean the game or Wii itself does. It will just stretch the original 480p or 720p image to fill your 1080p monitor.

  • No, it won't. Being an emulator, it's not limited to the constraints of the software. It can actually set the internal perspective to any arbitrary resolution, and that includes 1080p.

  • Can you provide an example emulator that has successfully done this? In the cases I've seen, if you set the game resolution (not monitor resolution) higher than its intended resolution, the graphics mess up or don't display properly. You end up with a jumbled mess outside of the intended display resolution.

From what I've seen, if the software wasn't written for it, then it won't display properly.

  • All emulators that poll the display for supported resolutions are capable of it. For example,

    watch?v=meoF9H7Zp0Q

  • So you could actually play Wii games in HD on such an emulator? (of course, textures would still look the same though, right?)

  • @DoctorEggmanNega

Yes, you can, with fast enough hardware.

  • Comment removed

  • @DoctorEggmanNega No, you can apply texture filtering to get sharper textures and a further LoD.

  • @highestsettings Okay, so for texture filtering, you can make it look blurrier or smudgier, possibly resulting in something smoother-looking, but you can't litterally make the image higher-res unless you yourself hacked and went in to completely redo it from scratch.

  • @DoctorEggmanNega No, the models are rendered at a higher resolution and by texture filtering I mean like antistropic instead of bilinear. Making it clearer, and you can quadrouple the size of the textures and resize them to get get smoother textures too, but that's not possible in dolphin yet/

  • I just got the HD box pro, i'm still waiting for my cables to arrive so I can finally play my Wii and PS2 on my monitor.

Thank you very much for making this video, and your right about the Remote being pretty dodgy.

  • where did u bought HD Box Pro?

  • at.....ebay son

  • this doesn't upsclae the wii to 1080p?

i dont understand how the doplhin emulator can display 720p and 1080p, so basicly all game discs can display 1080p its just the wii that doesn't have the power to do it, or?

  • The Wii itself outputs a max of 480p. The HD Box Pro will just enlarge the 480p image to fit the required space of your monitor (ie 1080p). The HD Box won't actually make the Wii output in HD.

As for Dolphin, because it's an emulator it looks like they've been able to write in some code to make it output in 720p for some games. For instance Mario Bros Wii looks awesome. I may be wrong, but I'm pretty sure 1080p is not supported.

  • nice video. Hey man can you give me a website of a hdbox thingy? Not to expensive one.

  • Yeah, you're wrong. All resolutions that the connected display is capable of are supported.

  • cooliscool - Wrong about what?

  • Any game that can be emulated can be upscaled in resolution. But not, by themselves they are created in 480p max resolution.

  • My wii turns out black and white on my lcd, so i'm guessing to get it in color i just need to get the red green and blue cables?

  • yes.

  • i just recently bought the HD box pro and tried connecting it to my Asus Lcd monitor via VGA cable and the regular composite cable for the Wii. Everything works fine except there's no colour. Also no colour when connecting the hd box with PS1. Do u have any idea what may have cause this problem?

  • You can't use a composite cable. You need a COMPONENT cable.

Composite cables have only one cable for video information (the yellow-coloured one). Component cables have three cables that make up the video information, which gives it higher quality. That's the only kind you can use with the HD Box.

As explained in the video, you have to buy a component cable that plugs into the Wii. Buy official or generic, it doesn't matter. Then you probably need a different one for the PS1.

  • its-a-weeee

  • helpful video, cheers mate

  • does this box work with a japanese wii system?

  • Consoles from different countries shouldn't have a problem with this box.

  • its about 60 on ebay. I have a 1920x1080p resolution monitor I am just worried that the video will lagg during gameplay?

  • I didn't notice any lag at all when I was playing.

  • I bought it after your advice and it's true.

the best box out there probably!

not just because it's a box, but because there are proper LCD tv chips inside there!

    thanks :-)

  • OMGsh This Helped Me The Most Then All Of The Rest Of The People That Mad A Vid Explaining This. You Rock!!!

  • how would you go about hooking a nintendo wii to an hp touchsmart without hdmi

  • Don't think you could do it. You need a video input for the screen. Most laptops don't have video input, only video output.

  • just buy a wii component cable.. you get 576i vs 480i/p on stock cable

  • for some reason, 480p from that console looks crap on my Sony Bravia 32" 1080p HDTV, I usually have my Wii set to 576i which to me is sharper with less jaggies

If your LCD has good deinterlacing hardware, it should look better as its a higher resolution

  • i have a 32 1080i lcd tv.. can`t see any big diffrence from rgb scart 480p to component 576i.. but that stock cable is crap.. I only use it on 576i.. have all 3 cables..

  • If you were using the composite-to-scart adaptor that came with the Wii then you certainly wouldnt notice enough of a difference, I've been using the component for it for a while now because with composite I always used to see dot crawl on my screen due to signal crosstalk, especially when the contacts on them weren't even gold plated

  • no I bought the real wii scart.. when i got my lcd I changed to component (red, blue, green)after some days..

I have lots of expensive stereo cables nordost, taralabs, qed, monstercables+++ I know what cables can do.. but I bought my tv cheap and used.. your sony may do a better job than my mirai.. I will upgrade to 42 full hd TV next year.. 32 are to small for web surfing with my acer slimline pc...

  • Monster? nice! yeah i got a VGA cable for xbox 360 from that company, its perfect for any monitor, for my tv I just use a HDMI cable that came with my elite, I want to get a PS3 but that has to wait because im still getting parts for my PC

  • I think I will also get ps3 slimm. why go wii vs ps3 when you can have it all..

  • true, then you dont have to worry about which system an upcoming game is getting released on :)

  • You can't plug a component cable into 90% of LCD monitors. And even if you could, you would almost always have problems with aspect ratio for the virtual console games.

  • I have not seen one that dont have component. Must be a crapy lcd Tv. Even my cheap mirai lcd tv have dvi, component, s-video,scart,hdmi, composit, and I have no trouble with aspect. My tv change screen aspect with out me lifting one finger.. Most 2year old dvd players dont have hdmi. Component is the best you get then.

  • Not sure we're talking about the same thing. There's LCD TVs and there's LCD monitors. All LCD TVs have component input, but not most LCD monitors.

  • okey. Your right. Isnt most lcd monitors in price range with a lcd tv? the screen I use for my pc is my tv.. I will by 42t tv soon.

  • I have one of these but its black and its called video converter YPbPr to vga. I got it from sewell direct for 60 bucks, it converts 480i, 576i, 480p, 576p, 720p, 1080i and 1080p to 16:9, 4:3 and 16:10 resolutions. very nice!

  • Sweet, thanks for the tip! Since it supports 480i I would be able to play my Gamecube games!!

  • what games do you have, they may support 480p. 480i is poor compared to 480p. you can view a list of ED(enhanced Definition)gamecube games on wikipedia

  • Yeah, I know that... >_>

    But thanks anyway!! :D

  • Comment removed

  • How much does that thing cost?? I have a Macbook!!! Does it work there also?? Great Video!!

  • I'm currently using a Kworld 1680Ex. It does everything the HDBOX pro does except aspect ration. I'm only able to choose from 16:10 or 4:3. I've been looking for this box for awhile now since just about every TV box out there doesn't do 16:9 on 16:10 monitors.

  • Holy moly, i never knew about this. I was going to order the Vdigi cable and if i hadn't seen this video, i would've been pretty much screwed. If I could, I would give you a bijillion dollars for doing this video for all of us!

  • I have also a vgabox and a tft monitor.

But my monitor is always black - it can't find the wii, still the wii is on (and i can here the sound and choose "blind" with the wiimote).

    Can someone help me, please?

    thankyou very much

    Anni

  • Thanks. Because of this video I bought the box. Yesterday it worked great. Today I got a audio line-in cable for PC-to-HDBoxPro and a VGA cable for PC-to-HDBoxPro and I plugged them in. The PC video and sound works nicely but now I just get sound when I use the Wii. That's strange since yesterday the sound and vide worked great... does anybody know what the problem could be?

  • Generally you need to turn on the HD Box Pro first, and then turn on the Wii. If you turn the Wii on first and then the HD Box, sometimes it doesn't detect the signal.

  • Thanks for the fast reply but unfortunately that doesn't help.... when I go to the menu and change the resolution I get a totally distortet green image for a few seconds in which I can barely recognize the Wii menu.

But other than that no video at all just sound... The strange thing is that it worked great before then I turned the box of for a few hours and when I turned it back on I got the problem. I pulled out and plugged in all cables several times but it doesn't help...

  • Nevermind I just unplugged the power cable on the HD Box Pro and plugged it back in and now it works. So thank you very much for this video the Box is really great :)

  • Ive just purchased a Dell U2410 which has a component input. Does that mean i wont need a HD Pro Box to play my Wii through my monitor?

  • If you're not worried about images being stretched, then you should be fine. If you want every single game to display in the correct aspect ratio, you will need to check if your monitor supports "1:1 pixel mapping". If it doesn't support it, you will need the HD Box to play non-widescreen games without the image being stretched.

  • I just checked the specs and i does support 1:1 pixel mapping so hopefully it will be as simple as turning that feature on and connecting my Wii through the component input. Thanks alot.

  • Hey Prizm, would this work on a Laptop? Since it has built-in speakers, it seems like I just need to put the hd box's VGA into the laptop and that's it. Also, the resolution is 1280x800. Would it have the same quality?

  • I've always wondered what purpose do the A B C buttons have?

  • Hi Prizm,

I just PMed you. It would be great if you could answer my questions.

    Thanx a lot buddy :)

  • OMG!!! Thank you so much for this VERY HELPFUL video. I recently purchased a 24" Dell S2409 (16:9) monitor, and I was going to order the Vdigi cable. Thank you for letting me know it's got aspect issues. I am definitely going to get the HD Box Pro now :D That way, I can connect a whole lot of other devices rather than only the Wii, like may be a set top box :D

Thank you so much. Really REALLY apreciate the effort of putting up the video dude. Keep up the good work.

    THANX A MILLION!!!

  • ravihpa: You're welcome mate!

  • thanks that helped alot

  • doesnt it works simply with a Component-to-VGA adapter?

  • I already bought the HD Box Pro and I must say, the built in graphic enhancer is cool. One thing that bothers me occasionally though is the changing of the colors (in my case, everything looks too green and red) when connected to wii. Anyway, thanks for recommending this product. Kudos to you :)

  • Does his support Gamecube Games and Virtual Console and WiiWare?

    I need 480i too :)

  • I recently ordered this stuff from Austria and my first experience is that is works quite well. I hope it stays like this. :)

  • I have a question, I already got a VGA Cable from VDigi but the problem is that it's blurry and has a hint of purple on the upper part of my screen.

I'm planning on ordering an HD Box Pro but I would like to know 2 things:

1- Does the Wii run at 60 fps like you're using it on a TV (just want to make sure since I got a TV card and it only outputs at 30 fps).

2- how is the quality? (is it the same as using Component on a HDTV or different?)

oh and my monitor is a Samsung 23" 16:9 HD Monitor.

  • Nice Vid. how much did u pay for the VGA Box?

  • thanks for the video

  • Just got the HDBOX Pro today and the Wii works great!

  • what is the first song called?

  • First song is Alien by Footloose, second track mixed in is Disturbed by Tonic. These are from "The Drum and Bass Rinse Out" album, mixed by Phantom 45.

  • lol, good question^^

I got yellow, red and white on my NGC

but I think it will work perfectly, because you're able to mach the NGC with the HD Box Pro. I will buy it soon, so I can tell it to you if it works^^

  • It won't work if you only have a yellow video cable (ignore your red and white - they're audio). You need component cables, whereby the video signal is split between three cables (red, green and blue).

  • I can'T connect my NTC directly to the Box? oO

shitttt.........but there is an adapter cable?

  • You have to buy an adapter that could convert composite (yellow) video to comonent (red, green and blue). Problem is, I don't think the results will be that good. Can I ask, what country are you from?

  • I'm from Germany

  • Does your gamecube have a "digital out" port?
