Might be pointless asking, but I'm making a presentation about this scene in my lecture at uni and need some help identifying the instruments used, how the music creates: Theme, atmosphere, tension etc. I need help with this badly because I have no idea about scores and orchestral things or anything!!! help xD

True Grit may bring a resergence back to the genre. @ calebinoutlook, yes it is. Other ones to check out would be the Quick and the Dead, Any Clint Eastwood Western, Jesse James, etc. @ the UnseenmovieLover don't check out Appaloosa if you haven't already. It is a blight on Westerns. The story line tanks, the acting (by Ed Harris and Viggo Mortenson, two of my faves) sucks, and it is just not a good western, or movie period. It only has one shootout for goodness sakes!!

and at 5:18 when the dynamite goes off, it would have probably killed the pinkerton inside the coach.

I definitely agree with you though; 3:10 to Yuma is probably one of my favourite Westerns. Jesse James is definitely in my top three films of the genre; that is an absolute masterpiece which was, and is still being, badly overlooked. I watched most of it today, actually; I'm doing a essay on Western iconography.

@AAu99 3:10 is just a remake of an older film, Unforgiven is an original story. That in my book makes it better. There's more going on in Unforgiven plot wise too, though 3:10 is more action. Plus it's Clint Eastwood, nothing else needs to be said. Love both films regardless.
