  • what a wonderful voice Uppercrust .!!!!!So terribly sad he left so soon. Beautiful soul. He deserved so much more.

  • So very haunting... If only he would have know this single short monologue would be the one thing his fans could hear him conversely say. Maybe, just maybe he would have given us a little more.. express some deeper thoughts and ideas, but thats neither here nor there. Fact is, this is all we have and despite the lack of significance I'm eternally grateful just to merely hear him speak words, talk just like a normal person. What a truly individual original he was and shall live forever with me.

  • I started reading the first few pages of 'Pink Moon' in the '33 1/3' series of books (this one in particular was by Amanda Petrusich) and saw that the author had quoted Nick as saying, "I think there's something extraordinarily nice about seeing the doorknob before one goes to bed.." Doorknob?? It's 'dawn up.' She's the knob. Needless to say, I immediately returned it to its resting place on the shelf.

  • Lovely speaking voice.Nick's music will live for ever and brings so much pleasure to so many people.

  • I find myself wishing he'd continued straying from the point, particularly 1:37 - 1:48. I think the tangent he started there could have been very telling. :(

    RIP, Nick.

  • @jaydeebee69 i thought the exact same thing

  • es el unico legado si es verdaderamente la voz de nick drake que se le conoce que no sea discos o fotos.

  • Imagine how many of these he actually recorded, and this is the only one left. Sad.

  • Interesting 'small hours' monologue.

  • Google ""Nick's monologue" for a transcript.

  • where did this recording come from? is it from a reel? Thanks for uploading!

  • wonder if nick was a frank ifield fan??

  • Can you imagine if Nick Drake knew that this small rant would later become the worlds only perception of how nick truly was, how he conversed in his way. and that snicker at the end, how eerie is that!

  • God that's creepy.. but so cool.

  • sounds like Prince charles mashed up must be a joke).

  • @joebstarsurfer yes he uses the royal "one" rather a lot doesnt he!.he was very posh though so its not such a big surprise.

  • He sounds a bit like Brian Jones. Is really Nick then?

  • @elephantstone24 it is indeed nick, i promise

  • I can confirm this certainly is Nick, i've heard the original tape on his reel to reel machine... and others.

  • Good to hear this in a clearer format... it's been around for years on various recorded cassettes but never as audible as this. Or as comprehensible, come to that...

  • What a surprise to find this

  • Before one goes to bed, mental centipedes invade one's soul?

  • oh my goodness, he sounds like an angel though he's drunk. i love him.

  • his words are just as interesting and deep as his lyrics, fascinating person.

  • GGiblet, thanks man! Appreciated :)

  • Amazing to hear Nicks thoughts as he is something of a mystery outside of his music. What's the record Nick is playing just before he says goodnight?

  • @SlowNews

    Hi there!

It's "You Don't Have To Be a Baby To Cry" by Frank Ifield, a popular tune of the day

you can find the lyrics online if you care to, as it is a country western standard now

    Hope this helps! :)

  • @SlowNews it might not be a record or radio though, as you can here it come and go. likely it is a bleed-over from a previous recording on the same reel-to-reel tape. old tapes like that had to be erased manually, and if not done properly or simply recorded over, bits of the previous recording would "bleed" through. its an interesting phenomenon of magnetic tape though horribly annoying if you are trying to get a clean recording.

  • @Putaspellonyou i think "bleeding" actually ads to the recording in its accidental background context gives it an extra sadness and pathos it might lack otherwise.

  • @bradshawvincent indeed.

  • Awsome!! Thank you sooooo much for sharing this!! :D i love all of your videos too i would love to see more. :) Thanks again

  • @suicidalquiff Thanks! You're welcome, i'll upload some more of his demo's when i can :)

  • @hazeyjaneI :D that... would...be amazing!!
