  • OOh yes I'm impressed!

  • stfu, it's a great clip.

  • @SamSioke97 Julius Caesar was assassinated around 100 years before the Colosseum was built.

  • i don't get this music video i love the song and the band but the video makes no sense with the song he does not look impressed while watching his people kill each other i just don't get it

  • @MRj0hnny5 Its the other way around in my opinion. The way I see it, his people are impressed by the massive amount of power he has, but they also hate him because he is sadistic and brutal. So, they are impressed by his terribleness.

  • It's actually about Julius Caesar, as it shows the Coloseum the whole video. At the is the guy that stood next to the 'King Robot' In the Coloseum, is actually Brutus who assassinated Caesar (The last part is a reference to that, since Brutus had alot of people with him to kill Caesar)

  • "Caesar" was a family name that became an Imperial title.

It is the source of the German title "Kaiser"

and the Russian title "Tsar" or "Czar".

    So,FWIW,

many of the comments below are inane in that they assume "Caesar" to be one person.

    There were MANY Caesars...

and there is too much confusion!

Not to mention too much drama...

  • @jetpoweredgriffin Yes but there is usually only one person peoplethink of when they say Caesar -- Gaius Julius Caesar, the first Dictator of Rome. SOMETIMES people think Octavian because he was the first Emperor.

  • @MrMockJohnson

    As usual,though,

most of them do not really seem to be thinking at all...

  • Guys, it's not Caesar. This video is more reminiscent of the empire, not the republic. Caesar didn't live during the empire. Besides. Caesar was a leader who made himself popular by being a figurehead for the plebeian class, basically by standing up for the little guys, and challenging the Senate, even going as far as to bring his army into the city, because he was explicitly told not to. The group of senators killed him on the senate steps, and the plebeians were horrified. Totally not Caesar.

  • One of my favorite TMBG songs, and love the vid, too. It goes perfectly with the lyrics!

  • This video is...erm...gruesome?

  • @forgingiron123 Took me a long time to notice how violent it is, 'cause I was so wrapped up in the incredible lyrics and the throngs of paper robots. Imho, the violence is vital to the message. Your thoughts? :)

  • What does they might be giants mean?

  • @yoshibug100 It's a reference to the Man of La Mancha, or "Don Quixote". The main character constantly attacks windmills because "they might be giants".

  • @yoshibug100 Its the title of a movie, they named their band after it.

  • Them Greco-Robo-Romans.

  • it is about any ruler that dose not treat his people with justice .NOT CESAR IN SPECIFIC

  • @TheKeven28900 Et tu, random youtuber?

  • Tubeular

  • i wish i can thumbs up

  • @randompspstuff why?

  • @physcokitty101 idk so i can here awesome comments, jokes, and stuff

  • any one notice the wheels on the big meat shreder when it rolling in its rolling backwards!

  • lol its caesar

  • @bladex454 It's not Caesar, Caesar didn't have medals or a crown or anything like that.

  • @SigandGibbs No dude. it represents Caesar. He was a huge dick basicly, was a ruler (Crown) Big leader (Medals and such) So his council (Those guys with can opener things) Stabbed him to death. Including his buddy, brutus.

  • @Puppin8or Er.. that's not what happened to Caesar. I've studied Caesar and I know latin. Caesar was well loved by everyone because he did so much to help Rome. He got stabbed by the SENATE (not his council) because he was too powerful.

  • @SigandGibbs Agreed. It would more fit Caligula, no? Now, he was a dick, and killed by personal guards.

  • @Puppin8or It wasn't he was a dick, they thought he was going to claim a monarchy rule on Rome, because the people wanted him to. So his senate killed him, not wanting a king.

  • Awesome!

  • it looks like roman times mixed with robots

  • @physcokitty101 astute.

  • One of TMBG's best songs, in my honest opinion.

  • @SlipMeATwenty One of TMBG's worst songs, in MY dishonest opinion. :D

  • are you all stupid? really? its julius caesar!

  • @TAZEROXFORD Sad that they didn't get that right off the bat huh?

  • @deathtamer666 penis

  • @TAZEROXFORD Who is it that jacked this account?

  • @deathtamer666 no one did

  • @TAZEROXFORD Then why did you randomly reply to me saying "penis"

  • @deathtamer666 no i didnt what are you talking about?

  • @TAZEROXFORD Look back on all of the replies between us, the reply to my after i said "Sad that they didn't get that right off the bat huh?" from you was "penis"

  • oBAMA

  • No it's Gaddafi! :/

  • IM IMPRESS that shall be my catchphrase

  • Caesar was a Dick.

  • I agree with @tix999 , i just think the ending where the robo king was killed reminded me of how Caesar was stabed by hus councel.

  • That's not Caesar! is Nero!

Caesar challenged a power hungry and corrupted senate and was killed because he was LOVED by the people.

Nero was heartless fuck who killed people left and right if they disagreed with him. He is what they are singing about him.

  • @tik999 Possibly, but Nero killed himself when the lad burned down the country.

  • @SuperIGotHacked

Oh yea. Then it was probably Caligula.

    But it's not caesar

  • Now I remember this :/ I really used to be horrified by this :(

  • this really could be atributed to any dictator in history, Caesar, Hitler, Kim etc.

  • awesome i love this video

  • Im reading about Caesar right now.... And my first thought was to put this on. It makes learning bout him so much better

  • Their music videos are scary, but I love how accurate they are to history. I take that the king robot must of been Julius Caesar.

  • @amberm1994 yea i think so too. Just something really cool about it

  • In the ending when everyone is stabing the king guy, i think about Julius Cesear and how he was stabed by his councel. O.o

  • @namornivek I think that was the inspiration, and it's just fantastic

  • well Do not waste time, come to my room I'm all burning

  • WHAT THE HELL DID I JUST WATCH?? D:

  • @ipunchrock this.... what was i supposed to say?!?!?!

  • I love how some of TMBG songs are all like ABC 123! But others are about gladiators and have bloody papercraft and say damn :D

  • @mrbubbles551 yeah what's up with all those kiddie videos? thier cute but why cant there be more songs like this?

  • My Art teacher showed me this :D he was showing us things to do with papercraft and this came on :D

  • epic

  • lol

  • welcome to the borg homeworld prepare to be assimilated

  • What????

  • I'm impressed♥ ~

  • That kind of scared me a little

  • wow this is pretty graphic lol

  • @emocircusops dont worry they are just robots

  • @pickl3dpickl3s Robots that bleed 0_0

  • Ouch, a paper cut

  • I'm not fucking impressed.

  • 0:14 oh hell yeah. im gonna make me some

  • nahh .. go ahead

  • This video is great! Why can't I vote it up? I want to give credit where it's due.

  • @jpbeagula Youtube would crash if we could give TMBG all the credit they deserve :(

i personally love the text, in my ears this suits perfect with our system, we keep killing eachother and the world but still "you see nobody leaving the stadium" as they put it..

    LOVELY song. love the band

  • hey! that's the dude, the one who ended roman democracy!

  • @hillary5281

If your talking about Caesar, you have to remember that the "Democracy" that he overthrew was incredibly corrupt, and the Senate knew Caesar was to popular with the masses to control.

  • 35 people were not impressed, they where wrong.

  • impressive <333

  • Favourite line:

When the Tornado from the West, Crushes Buildings i'm Impressed.

  • The King:

    Choke on 'em!

  • im impressed

  • Awesome song <3

  • What if it's called 'I'm Impressed' to sound like 'I'm Oppressed', because that's what the robots were before they killed their leader. I reckon oppression is the key idea to the song, or at least to the video.

  • @501LuKe501 I assumed it was a play on the meanings of the word impressed. The first being witness to an awesome display, the other being a way to conscript soldiers into an army. So in the same line the singer is expressing satirically that he is impressed by the spectacle, and at the same time, expressing that he is literally impressed (into the robot army against his will)

  • Is the 4 people in the church something to with.. i cant remember the details.. but some arch bishop getting stabbed multiple times in a church in henry the 8th period?

  • Would you narrow-minded idiots stop relating this to the ancient Rome? It's simply about "the man" with power, be it an emperor, a president, a government, your boss, school bully, the church, your parents, the police.. and your relationship and dis/agreeing with him/it. The vid greatly illustrates this point, but the song is not about fucking Julius Caesar. Learn to think.

  • @andy1cz agreed.

  • @shinkle4 The clip is about some futeristic rome with robots. And the message goes farther than that. He is impressed and wants to follow leaders, alpha-males but he does not because he knows what has happened in the past (not just romans but Nazis etc. like the generalissimo mentioned)

  • @reafdaw01 Yes, and you might add the US to that list, because on The Bob Edwards Show, Linnell admitted that the song is political, saying that "It's just about the strong man in general" and accepting that it could describe the situation in Iraq.

  • has anyone seen coraline other father

  • @Ruben5Oh3 EVERYONE has seen Coraline: Other Father.

    And it's amazing.

  • eu tu brute?

  • @mrpotatohead34, what does that mean

  • @eddiemurphyfan100 Julius Caesar reference, when he gets assassinated, his best friend stabs him, and he says, eu tu brute? which is Latin for: you to Brutus? And i thought it matched with this video.

  • What a morbid tribute to regicide...

  • Amazing song and brilliant video, one of the best I've seen in a long time.

  • it's about the positive connotation "impressed" usually imparts, and exploring the flipside. one can be "impressed" by someone who is awful, specifically someone who values brute force. sure, i'm impressed by your display of almighty destructive power, or your ability to strike fear into people; it doesn't mean i like it.

  • I agree i don't get it either. I like the song but what is it about.

  • @samiscool86 Its about living in fear. Either school bully on one had he has 5 good reasons to follow him, a fist and relating to "I'll give you 5 good reasons to do it while clinching a fist. A boss, when the gorilla pounds his desk. Or a Commanding Officer, the torpedo in the vest that barks orders. I would say the video relates by showing you you can always fight back, and for the better. The title refers to impressing fear into people.

  • this is a bad ass video and a bad ass song!! :) but i think id like it a bit better if i could understand how the video related to the lyrics. lLike whats it about? any help someone??

  • The last scene reminds me of the end of The Russian Revolution.

  • With the amount of work put into this, how could anyone be not impressed?

  • I like the punk tone of this song. Shame the rest of the songs on the album weren't as good.

  • Some good old-fashioned nightmare fuel from our beloved TMBG

  • Stop motion + paper craft? I'm impressed.

  • I hate music videos. This is one of the few exceptions.

  • Uh oh, they messed up. Thumbs down meant they lived..

  • @savannah631 well, in ancient Rome, thumbs up meant they lived, down means the gladiator was killed. i don't mean to sound like a smart alik, and you probably know more than i do.

  • @slk1771 Nope, look it up, it was actually reversed back then.

  • @omgitsaduck12345 No one is certain. It could be that thumbs up was a stabbing motion upwards mimicking the method with which soldiers would kill (under the armor and through the ribs to the heart), while down meant lay down the weapon. Or it could be that thumbs up meant hide the weapon and thumbs down had the stabbing motion.

  • Though... I think it's a bit too less pain in the last scene. ^-^

  • I really love this video, makes me feel so happy every time i see the robot king get cutted!

  • @TheGentlemanWolf Why did they disable rating for this vid? You made my day!

    Gadaffi indeed

  • geez, that ending's intense

  • This video is completely Raw!

  • If it weren't for the video I wouldn't know that it was about Julius Ceasar.

    Love the song

  • @mrme150 - The song isn't about Julius Caesar. It's not about robots or papercrafting, either.

  • whell shadow government is alright

  • only good song they ever made

  • @swimtastik77 Harsh.

  • @swimtastik77 i guess all thoes other HIT songs and DVD's they made don't count

  • @swimtastik77 No it's not. Shut up.

  • @swimtastik77 Hey! This was pretty much the first band to use an accordion in awesome songs!

  • Cool, I get this song and video completely now; the dictator is a brutal puppet master ordering out violence and death to every pawn for sheer enjoyment in a world that initially seems to be just as hedonistic and sadistic as evidenced by the stadium, but as we delve into it, this dictator is a coward who is fully aware the people may rebel against him as he says that past events have taught him he may need to flee or "remember the exits in back of (him)."

  • @MrEmadshalabi He never takes any action of his own, but orders out everything to be done for him, calling for people to bring about the government he's supposed to maintain, as "(his) head is nodding yes, though (his) legs are not following," and he is extremely persuasive and powerful in speech, as the song says "he'll give you 5 good reasons to follow him" and in video he stirs up the crowd enough to listen to him for a while before realizing the evil he had done.

  • @MrEmadshalabi And in irony; no matter how much guts and gore are spilled and no matter the perfect fear-based obedience of his people, he isn't impressed, or rather his blood-lust is not satisfied; he just keeps demanding more gore daily, if he was impressed he'd be pleased with what he's already had happen as I believe. On the topic of his people, they had felt remorse on the behalf of the tyrant's absence of such, as expressed by the song and video, which lead to treason of the tyrant...

  • @MrEmadshalabi WOW. now lets hear your perspective on "Birdhouse In Your Soul"

  • @MrPapiPop You're very funny. Oh, well, it isn't like I'm the only person here who's licensed to use sarcasm, the bad part is since there is no sneering voice I could put on audio at this moment, I have no indirect way of telling you I used in the first sentence.

  • @MrWadie123 well i'm not sure if you are responding to somthing i said to someone eles on here, because i don't remember repling to someone under this tag name, but fell free to respond how you please sir. Altho i would love a interesting adult conversation, but this is YouTube. I'll take anything that i can read, that makes a little since, and any reply from someone that don't just type "GAY".

  • @MrPapiPop I have access to EmadShalabi and Wadie123 Accounts, so, I am the same person you presumably sardonically responded to.

  • Dark.

  • Super epicly awesome

  • ahh, the gladiatorial days, where people mindlessly killed each other, good times.

  • What historical events could this song represent?

  • @TheTop5CODPlays It could be actually be of the reign of ancient roman tyrants or broadly any tyrannical dictator in a just world scenario. He was killed as gruesomely he kills... Poetic Justice...

  • It was suprising to see how we cannot like this video.

Guess they are afraid of people expressing how impressed they are.

  • oh gosh i have latterly been looking for this for 3 days. im so happy i could find this.

  • this is the best music video ps its wierd when u watch roy g biv then this lol

  • i think this is a Tangential Learning thing where it encourages you to learn about ancient Rome by showing it to you without slapping you in the face with a bunch of text how many of you looked it up after seeing this video or checked out Mesopotamia after seeing The Mesopotamians video that is Tangential Learning

  • @Polytractor i cant give you a thumbs up. i dont know why but yeah i did just that.

  • awesome animation!!!

  • That's what I think it looks like to.

  • The cartoon looks less like the assassination of Julius Caesar and more like the assassination of Caligula, who was assaulted on his way out of a public games.

  • @thecoweyed Julius Caesar IS Caligula.

His name was Gaius Iulius Caesar, but he reigned as Caligula.

So it's the same person :p

It's confusing with the Roman's hang towards re-using their names for their children.

  • @Kornmeister They share a few names but they aren't the same person. Gaius Julius Caesar Augustus Germanicus was Caligula. and he lived from from 12AD to 41AD. Gaius Julius Caesar is Julius Caesar and he died over a hundred years before Caligula was born.

  • @Kornmeister How is this possible when they where both alive at different time periods?

  • @PkmnGrn There were several people with the same name. As I said Romans tend to re-use their names quite a lot ;)

  • I think the message here is "Beware the Ides of March."

  • This is my favorite TMBG music video. :)

  • @beatlesgirl95 or the one for the mesopotamians is good :)

  • GSP is not impressed with this video

  • I like this.

  • The things you can do with cardboard these days

  • Comment removed

  • @loliver231 actually, I think they needed a little of both; most of the body motions seem to me like real stop motion movements, while the finer movements of the hands are probably computer animated. They also took shortcuts animating one robot and copying him a few times for crowds. The blood at the end however, is definitely stop motion, it is nearly impossible to get that sort of effect on a computer.

  • well, im impressed by this song

    thumbs up all around

  • to me the message of the song is that he himself is appalled that people are able to gain such power, and even more so how they abuse it. power is impressive but it isn't everything, especially when it is used the wrong way... he wants to follow but he knows it isn't right. i feel almost as if he is referring the high ranking officers as miniature dictators, or maybe talking about dictators. I don't know, this is just my oppinion

  • @UkumaOokami so can we just say its Julius Ceasar?

  • Gotta say...IMO this song is their best work since Apollo 18. *ducks* lol

  • watching this video gave a whole new meaning to my youtube profile name:

    robotking27

  • @RobotKing27 No, it didn't.

  • @fiercealmond It kinda did. What started as a stupid name I entered on a whim has become a stupid name that is also the main character in this music video

  • This music video made my soul jism.

  • My new fight song?

  • @KurtG85 TL;DR

  • if you think that this is good then watch the streetlight manifesto we will fall together music video. streetlight is a third wave ska band from new jersey and they are my fav band.
