@leafboy412 You can connect any number of drives, up to 8 directly, or 32 using SAS exapanders (or if you are a moron, you can flash HBA firmware to use it as a non-RAID controller and connect up to 256 drives - if you use software RAID).
wow... i would get one of those if i had the money.. onboard raid doesnt work for me, but cheap raid cards dont work either, so i settle for onboard, but i would prefer a nice RAID card anyday =[
What's up with everyone whining for giveaways? Stop crying and enjoy the damn videos, they're awesome! I love Linus for his amazingly interesting videos and explanations much more than I love the thrill of the giveaways.
@MARIONDA13 yes but you better have a high powerd comput minimum requirements for that many drives in raid 1,0,6 would be windows 7, 2gb ram at lease a 750w power supply and a core 2 duo or higher
@jon204 No you don't. I've been running 24 drives on an Athlon 3000+ single core with 512MB RAM and Debian. Granted, they're not SSDs, but running 32 SSDs is a waste since the controller will cap out in terms of speed at around 8 drives.
@uut0 Actually, the RAID used 26 SSDs in RAID 00 (No, that is not a typo.) If you read the images flashed at you, you can see that they used 26 SSDs in actuality, but their peak performance (>2GB/s access time) was with 24 SSDs in RAID 00. Thus, they said 24 instead of 26.
@nobodypersonsomeone Yeah, youtube just keep putting absolute shit on their site, first they changed the damn home page subscribe box to a shitty subscribe list and now this god damn grey bar. Are they trying to piss off millions of users? Idiots!! I have blocked the grey bar with Ad-Block in chrome, but I can't fix the shitty subscribe list.
@nobodypersonsomeone "new" YouTube is really fuckd up, I dunno who tha hell invented that totally stupid grey bar. Aftrer that you have to exit stupid Google Ads as well... :SS
@iAmSiklee i no that but id just use 1 SSD for my OS and a 2 TB HDD for my games, movies, music etc but thats just me u know other people have their own preferences
@TheAmefist ya well best to be optimistic, hardware is surprisingly versatile nowadays beign able to basically be rubbed on carpeting and run fine. i think you'll be ok but you'll prolly want to google it and find an answer in the middle. if nothing is bent or broken and it wasnt plugged into electricity hope is a~ok, and i cant afford to mung up my hardware either i just used it as an example of what you may be able to get away with, good luck tho
@TheAmefist did you break the pins inside? your question isnt very clear, and i'm not very knowledgeable lol. incase you hadn't noticed in linus videos he absolutely manhandles hardware, grabbing everything by it's connectors etc. so if its some type of static or whatever im guessing probably not
linus could you do a raid comparison on fake raid vs hardware raid

Hey Linus, what are those splitter you talk about ? I did a search about it, and I can't find anything else than the cable given with the card.
Do you have a link for the 1 SAS to 4 SAS, where we would connect 4 SAS to 4 SATA giving the 16 SATA port per SAS onboard port published ?

For my PC which I use primarily for gaming, I have one 500GB hard drive.
If I buy another 500GB drive setting up RAID 0 would have the same probability of losing all my data as I do now, right?
And being as its mainly used for gaming, losing that data wouldnt be so bad as all the games can be re-installed.
