Miss Valentina, I really love the way you play the piano... It touches the soul and I would like you to tell me what to do when you are just about to play a pino song in a theater cuz every time I do it just got extremely afraid and make mistakes becuase of it :) Thank u and keep on it you're really good :)
Stunning stunning stunning technique.. Interpretation relatively conventional by contrast - I love when pianists play the rapid descending right hand during building up to climax with accelerando and mezoo piano and allow left hand to build up more powerfully! Composers do not need to have their music taken completely literally if the effect can be improved.
I think this woman could play anything. I listened to her play Rachmaninoff, Liszt, Chopin, Ravel, Schubert, Beethoven, Grieg, etc. I'd be interested if there is anything she can't play. I'd pretty much have to say she IS a master. The attribute of a master is that they can play anything you give them. She doesn't just have a big repertoire. She plays hard pieces. Love her fluid technique here. Almost like a harpist.
I guess you need to play this on a grand paino to make it really sound because of the mechanics. A cheap upright or digital piano will just not allow you to play this piece with ease at the appropriate tempo.
For an Artist like Valentina learning such a piece means something very different compared to us
by the way I am learning 'une barque sur l'oean'
Probably for her fingers and technic is never a problem it is just about conceptualizing the music and algorithm behind and just train her willing to play this mental representation
For me for instance it represents a lot of more effort and learning ;-)
Bravo Valentina your interpretations are always fantastic
It would take me nine hours just to get through this one time sloppily, but im attempting it anyway. Do you have any tips for me to be able to play this before I'm very old?
(im 13 and i have been playing for a year and a half, but I practice about 3 hours every day)
For me to master a complicated piece like this, it usually takes me roughly some- thirty hours to complete. Such was an example where I had to learn Chopin's Ballade No. 1 from scratch to perfection within one week. On the first try I was playing note by note; 200 tries later I was playing almost like the composer himself. With that said, Valentina is definitely gifted, but the feat isn't impossible. Persistence is key.
It is you? i mean the pianist itself whom uploads its playings??????????wowow if it is you directly i mean the artist, my respects...you play really beautiful i have awaken my taste for classical music and opera recently but i like it a lot, thankssssss :)
When people ask me who is the best pianist alive, I reply without thinking Valentina Lisitsa because you play just as beautiful as you look in the case you play to good to be true : ).
Post more videos I can't get enough of your musicality and fluidity of your hands that is beyond what words can describe.
I had my doubts about Valentina but this is absolutely incredible and she totally caught me off guard with the passages at 3:03 which I haven't heard sped up in context like that. The climax is amazing, I still give A.B.M the nod for his interpretation though.
Wow it's amazing how fluid her playing is, albeit studio edited, her sound is amazingly water-like. Her wrists seem to move as if she is fanning a cloud and giving it shape..
I think it's ridiculous that she can play this piece with such speed, and it doesn't sound rushed at all! She always has such a unique touch to her playing, it's unmistakable!
This interpretation is unworldly. I cannot believe that a human being is capable of conveying such a sound from a piano!
Valentina's artistry and eloquence bring this virtuosic masterpiece to its full potential. It's recordings like this that separate the "men from the boys" in the world of musicianship.

'retard at the end' - unquote. I know your an American, over-critical and highly optioned, but surely you could have chosen a descriptive phrase a less 21st century New York street Hoody than that?? Apart from which, the ending was perfect, along with the rest of Valentina Lisitsa's interpretation of the piece.
If you want to call Americans overcritical, then i'll start acting like one and criticize your comments and your English. It's obvious that he meant ritard, so you should have assumed that it was a spelling error, since we Americans are all uneducated as well, as i'm sure you know. Aside from that, your thoughts on the interpretive quality of the performance are no more reputable than his. And it's end quote, not unquote. Also, you don't need to write end quote when the symbol is already there.
At first I didn't understand this at all. Then I started reading up on the mythology of Ondines. Astounding. There may be more to Ravel than I first thought.
wow this is an astonishingly beautiful performance i love her left hand runs so much. her hands are mesmerising to watch. im not sure if i would play it the same way but this is so beautiful
Prefiero la interpretacion de Valentina que la de Martha Argerich. Es definitivamente mas virtuosistica, mas aterciopelada y lo mas asombroso es la impecable tecnica de valentina al momento de atacar todas las escalas, especialmente en las terceras.
What a great DVD and beautiful performance! I especially like the alternate interpretation, probably the most effortless playing I've ever seen of Ondine. Although there are familiar patterns of scales, arpeggios and octaves; it's just really hard to play!

I'm 99% sure tomtrilobite meant "ritard," as an abbreviation for "ritardando." Ravel did write in "sans ralentir" at the very end of this piece.
