was there from 1966 to 1969. we had an aussie p-3 crash in 68. whole crew got out all that was left was the tail section. i worked in operations maintaince dept.mostly flight line watched p-3 crash.
I was stationed at Moffet 86-89, at GEMD. Worked a few air shows. The NASA birds were often more interesting than the every day jet aircraft teams ( Italian TriColori's, Blue Angels, etc). The worst part of the air shows was the field cleanup (FOD walkdown) the Monday after.
Avionics Tech VP-50 (84-87), VP-31 FRAMP (87-94), & VP-4 (91-95). This aircraft, RP-18 belonged to VP-31 Black Lightnings. I'm very certain that I either worked or attended that airshow. Probably worked it.
@mchume65 Have you seen what the hollow brass hats want to replace her with? They have this new piece of shit called P8. It is a wide body airliner with 2 jet engines, and it is a WHITE ELEPHANT!

There are soo many things right and TERRIBLY wrong with this video. I guess 1988 was a different time for Orion Flight crews... Two engine inflight restart in the pattern, seriously?
Thank you for posting this. I get a rare glimpse of a P-3 coming into moffett once a month if i'm lucky. the sound of a P-3 is one of the greatest memories from my childhood. thank you so much.
I can't believe their replacing this with the P-8A Poseidon..... :/
