@marcelotull They both (Mick and Alan) are very influenced by the vocal stylings of R&B great Don Covay. Alan's favorite album the summer of 1976 according to interviews I've read was Don Covay's "Travellin In Heavy Traffic"
I like lead singer Alan Merrill's laugh at the start of the song. Miley Cyrus does the same kind of laugh in her cover of The Arrows "I love rock n roll"- It's on youtube.
Coincidence, or did young Miley do her Arrows homework? lol
I prefer this song with the brass, slide guitar and blues harp. None of these elements are on the original RAK Arrows b-side recording, which is a very different sounding version..
Sadly, the Arrows drummer passed away on July 2nd, 2008. He was a lovely chap and will be missed by all who knew him and his musical contributions. Paul Varley RIP.
The Arrows were peaking as a band around this time, at least live. They were a five piece for live shows, with Steve Gould (not seen in this video) of Rare Bird as the utility man. A couple of years later in 1978 Steve Gould and Arrows singer Alan formed the band Runner, on Island Records.
Arrows were in a strange place with their general industry promotion. Being marketed to the teenyboppers, but their music was not that at all. They were more like the Stones than the Rollers. An interested label could have made a fortune off of this band.
History can be reviewed but not changed. The Arrows record company simply didn't back the band with any serious promotion after their first three singles. Arrows only had 6 singles released in 4 years as a band. Three of those releases were hits.
Great band, and so very under-rated. This song is a b-side from 1975 I think. Almost all their best songs were b-sides, including "I love rock and roll."
wow the Alan Merrill sings like Mick Jagger, doesn't he. When he sing baby I remenber Mick singing Star Star.

Alan Merrill knows how to deliver a song on stage, whether solo acoustic or rocking out with a band. He got it.

Understatement- "The Arrows record company simply didn't back the band" They buried the band. Fact.

Musically it's Stones merged with Al Green, mid seventies style. I love the horns and slide guitar on this, they're not on the original record.
